Safety

This Magellan receiver is a vehicle-navigation aid designed to assist you in arriving to your selected destinations. When using this Magellan product, these safety rules must be followed to prevent accidents that can result in injury or death to yourself or others:

• Please check with your state or local law enforcement for applicable regulations regarding mounting to the windshield. Go to www.magellanGPS.com for alternate mounting solutions. An adhesive disk is supplied with the Magellan receiver for use as an alternate mounting solution to the dashboard.

• When driving, the need to view the display is minimal. Voice prompts will guide you to your destination. The driver should enter data or program the Magellan receiver only when the vehicle is stopped. Only a vehicle passenger should enter data or program the receiver while the vehicle is moving.

• It is your responsibility to comply with all traffic laws.

Every attempt is made to ensure that the database is accurate. However, roadways, points of interest (POls), and business and service locations may change over time. The database does not include, analyze, process, consider, or reflect any of the following: legal restrictions (such as vehicular type, weight, height, width, load and speed restrictions); road slope or grade; bridge height, width, weight, or other limits; population density; neighborhood quality or safety; availability or proximity of law enforcement, emergency rescue, medical, or other assistance; construction work zones or hazards; road or lane closures; road, traffic, or traffic facilities' safety or condition; weather conditions; pavement characteristics or conditions; special events; traffic congestion. It is your responsibility to disregard any unsafe, hazardous, or illegal route suggestions.

• Keep the receiver safe from extreme temperature conditions. For example, do not leave it exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time. The maximum operating temperature is 140°F (60°C).

• Take care when mounting the receiver in your vehicle, whether using the windshield mount or other mount or accessories, that it does not obstruct the driver's view of the road, interfere with the operation of the vehicle's safety devices such as air bags, or present a hazard to occupants of the vehicle should the receiver be dislodged while driving. You assume the risks associated with damage to your vehicle or vehicle occupants as the result of your choices in mounting the receiver.

Please do not return this product to the place of purchase without first contacting Magellan Technical Support at www.magellanGPS.comlsupporV.

Magellan RoadMate 1700

QuickSpell™

Your Magellan receiver uses a feature known as QuickSpel1 for entering cities and streets whenever possible. Quick-

Spell displays only those keys that could be used to enter a city or address that is in the receiver's memory. For example, in the screen shown here for street entry, only the letters that spell a street are displayed. This greatly reduces the chance for errors as well as to speed up the address entry process.

Smart City Search

Another way the Magellan receiver makes entering an address easy is through the use of Smart City Search. The Magellan receiver uses your location as well as cities you've created routes to before to try to figure out the city you are looking for. As you enter characters, the

'computed' city is displayed at the top of the screen.

QuickSpell™

When entering an address only those characters that can be used to spell the city or street are shown as active. Note that here there are no streets for the city chosen that begi n with grayed out.

Q, X, or Z and are

As more letters are entered, the keyboard active characters change indicating which characters can be used to spell the city or street. Here only the A, D, I, L, or 0 could be used to enter a street for the city chosen.

This speeds up entering an address greatly and avoids misspelling the word you are trying to enter.

Tapping on the checkmark will bring up a list of the cities or streets that begin with the letters you've entered. When the available cities or streets is short, the receiver will automatically switch to the list, displaying those items that begin with the letters you've entered.

In this example, a user in San Dimas has entered

"SAN F" and the receiver has chosen "SAN

FERNANDO, CA" as the probable city. Had the user been in Oakland, CA, the receiver would be displaying SAN FRANCISCO, CA.

If you tap on the city at the top of the display or on the green checkmark, it is selected as your destination city and you are then required to enter the street. Tap on LIST when the button is active to bring up the list of cities beginning with the characters you've entered. (Note that if the number of cities that begin with the characters you've entered is short, the list is automatically displayed.

Home Address

Use the Magellan receiver to quickly return to your home address no matter how lost you thought you were. When you first install your Magellan receiver you should set your home address on the

OneTouch menu so it is there whenever you need it. You have the option of entering your home address or, if you are in your vehicle and the Magellan receiver is computing a position fix, you can assign your current location as your home. After following these steps and tapping the green check mark, the address is saved and designated as your

Home address. Next time you access the

Home icon you can set a route to your home.

Map Updates

On some occasions you may find that you cannot enter the name of the street you desire. This is due to the street not being in the receiver's memory. Most likely this is a new street and wasn't included at the time of production.

If this occurs you may want to visit the Magellan web site

(www.magellangps.com) and check for a map update. In the meanwhile, you can set your home as your current location.

Map updates usually come out yearly and can be purchased directly from the

Magellan web site.
