Quick Start Guide AT&T SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset andset © 2009 Advanced American Telephones. All rights reserved. Charger Installation The SB67040 Cordless Handset uses a rechargeable 2.4v nickel-metal hydride cell (NiMH) pack and comes with a battery charger. Place the SB67040 Cordless Handset in the charger when not in use. For more information see the “AT&T SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset User’s Guide”. To install the SB67040 Cordless Handset Charger: 1. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. 2. Plug the small end of the power adapter into the jack on the underside of the charger. 3. Route the cord through the slot as shown in Figure 1. Power Adapter Figure 1. Handset Charger Power Connect SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset 2 Charger Installation Battery Installation After installing the battery, you may be able to make and receive short calls. To install the SB67040 Cordless Handset battery: Battery Connector Figure 2. 1. Remove the battery cover as shown in Figure 2. 2. Plug the battery connector securely into the plug inside the Handset battery compartment, matching the color-coded label. 3. Place the battery in the compartment with THIS SIDE UP facing up as indicated. 4. Align the cover flat against the battery compartment, then slide it upwards until it clicks into place. The LCD displays a white background during initialization. z After initialization, if there is some charge in the battery, the LCD displays the Place in charger screen shown in Figure 3. z If the screen is blank, place the Handset in the charger for one hour and re-initialize. SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset 4 Battery Installation Battery Charging To charge the Handset battery: 1. Place the Handset in the Charger face up as shown in Figure 4. z The CHARGE light will be on when the Handset is charging. z The Register screen shown in Figure 5. Figure 5 should display within 15 seconds. Charge Light Figure 4. Handset in Charger Register Screen NOTE: Charge the Handset battery for at least 16 hours before use. When fully charged, the Handset battery provides approximately five hours of talk time or three days of standby time. SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset 5 Battery Charging Handset Registration This procedure provides instructions for registering a SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset. For complete information on cordless device registration see the SB67030 Deskset User’s Guide. Only one Cordless Handset and one Headset can be registered to a Deskset. NOTE: Only one Cordless Handset can be registered to a Deskset. To register the SB67040 Cordless Handset: If the Handset is not registered to a Deskset the Place in Charger notification screen shown in Figure 6 displays upon power up. 1. Figure 6. Press MENU on the SB67030 Deskset. 3. Press 2 on the Deskset. 4. Press 5 to display the Cordless Registration menu shown in Figure 8. The screen reflects whether the Handset and Headset are registered. 5. Press 1 on the Deskset to begin the registration process. 6. Press to return to the Cordless Registration screen. 7. NOTE: The registration process on both Deskset and Handset will end after 60 seconds. If registration is not successful, try again. Figure 9. If the registration process times out, the Handset displays Registration Failed as shown in Figure 11, generates an error tone, and resets. Try registration again. After the Handset Figure 11. Perform Steps 1 through 4 of the “To register the SB67040 Cordless Handset:” procedure on page 6. 2. Press 1 on the Deskset to begin the deregistration process. 3. To deregister the Handset, press in Figure 12. 4. To confirm deregistration, press . Press to keep the Handset registered. 5. To return to the Cordless Registration screen, press . 9 as shown Handset Registration SB67040 Cordless Handset Overview The optional SB67040 Cordless Handset duplicates many of the Deskset features and provides a high degree of mobility. Figure 13 and Figure 14 illustrate and describe the function keys for the SB67040 Cordless Handset. Phone Start or answer a call. Options Accesses options dependant on the current mode. Mute/Quick Mutes the base microphone while on active or conference call. Press and hold to access quick dial numbers. SPEAKER Routes audio to speakerphone. Generates dial tone in Idle mode. Toggles audio from speaker to Headset or wired Headset during active call. Figure 13. Dial pad, 0-9, *, # Dials, performs shortcuts, or accesses areas in a list. DIR Accesses the directory. Hold Places active call on hold. SB67040 Cordless Handset Overview Select Selects an option out of a menu or list. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Provides instructions and status information. Scrolls or cycles through list entries. Performs backspace function, and is used in message playback to rewind message or play previous message. Scrolls through list entries. Highlights new messages or new calls in Idle mode. Adjusts contrast level in display menu. Scrolls through list entries. Highlights new messages or new calls in Idle mode. Adjusts contrast level in display menu. SB67040 Cordless Handset Key Functions (Continued) SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset 11 SB67040 Cordless Handset Overview SB67040 Cordless Handset LCD The Idle screen shown in Figure 15 displays when the Handset is first turned on or at the end of any operation such as completion of a call, or when the extension does not have any Active or Held Calls. Battery, Do Not Disturb, or Call Forward, and voicemail memory full. Date and Time. Extension number and name. Number of new calls. Press SELECT when highlighted to see them. Number of new messages. Press SELECT when highlighted to see message list so you can start to play new messages. Key labels. Press key below MSGs to see message list so you can start to play all messages. Press key below CID to see entire call log. Figure 15. SB67040 Cordless Handset Idle Screen SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset 12 SB67040 Cordless Handset LCD Predialing You can dial a phone number before pressing PHONE or SPEAKER. Pressing a dialing key in these cases initiates the Predial mode. In this mode the Handset produces no dial tone. You can also predial from a list. To make a call while the Handset is on-hook: 1. To initiate Predial mode as shown in Figure 16, press any DIAL key. Dial 9 for an outside call. 2. Press additional DIAL keys. You have the following options: Figure 16. Predial Mode 3. SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset z To delete a digit and move the cursor back one space, press the left NAVIGATION key. z To clear all digits, press OFF and you will return to Idle. z To insert a two-second pause, press z Press at any time to terminate the dialing sequence. All entries are deleted and the Handset returns to Idle. . Press PHONE to go off-hook and dial the Predial digits. 13 Predialing Live Dialing Live dialing refers to making a call when the phone is off-hook. To make a call off-hook: Figure 17. Live Dial SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset 1. Press PHONE or SPEAKER to initiate a call as shown in Figure 17. 2. Press the DIAL keys. Dial 9 for an outside call. Hyphens are automatically inserted for all 7, 8, 10, and 11 digit dialing, except when 9 is followed by a zero for an international call. 3. If you enter 9 and another digit other than 1, replaces , as shown in Figure 18 on page 15. 14 Live Dialing To make a call off-hook: (Continued) Figure 18. Live Dial Digits SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset z If you start dialing from an active call, the call is placed on hold. z If there are calls on hold, pressing PHONE will get a new line. z Pressing SPEAKER from Idle enters dial mode, but pressing SPEAKER during an active call reroutes audio to speakerphone. z During an active call, pressing dialing keys will display and transmit Dual Tone Multiple Frequencies (DTMF) tones, but will not interfere with the current call. z You can press PHONE when Idle or during an active call to enter dial mode. 15 Live Dialing Answering a Call If the system receives an incoming call in Idle mode, the Handset rings and the incoming call information displays as shown in Figure 19. The screen displays name (if available) and number. If there is more than one incoming call, they will all be displayed on the screen, but only the call that you can answer by pressing PHONE displays the name and telephone number. To cycle through incoming calls press the up or down NAVIGATION key. The SB67040 Handset records incoming calls in the call log and displays notification on the Idle screen. A call that has not been reviewed is considered new. Once you review a call in the Call Log, the call count will go down by one. If there are no new calls, the notification will display 0 New Missed Calls. You will not be able to play messages while in the Call Log. You have the following options when there is an incoming call: To answer a call press PHONE or SPEAKER. To silence the ringer press To forward the call to the destination defined in the Call Forward-No Answer setting press . Figure 19. Incoming Call SB67040 Cordless Accessory Handset . NOTE: Press VOL+ or VOL- to increase or decrease the ringer volume. 16 Answering a Call Voicemail Notification If you do not respond to an incoming call, the call is automatically forwarded to voicemail. You can forward a ringing call to voicemail by pressing . Voicemail functions: Figure 20. Voicemail Notification The Idle screen updates the New MSGs indication as shown in Figure 20 when a caller leaves a voicemail message. Once a new message is reviewed as shown in Figure 21, the notification on the Idle screen changes. Figure 21.
