OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

Note: Usually the matt side is the paper side of filmoplast

®

R, it contacts the roller (wounded outside). The shiny side is coated with adhesive. The adhesive side must face away from the roller.

Push the fixing device for the roll to the right side, lift and then take out the fixing device. Slide the roll of film onto the fixing device (follow the instructions shown above, do not load the film in the wrong side). Put the roll of film in the way to the fixing device, that the core is firmly seated on the core, to prevent it from rotating. Screw the bolt of the cone and tighten it. Put both hexagonal fittings into their respective brackets. Make sure they are both fully snapped.

WARNING: For hot laminating, the top and bottom roll of film must have the same width. In addition, the top film and bottom film must be aligned. (If the film is not in alignment, loosen the bolt of the stop collar and align it).

Step 4: With both rolls threaded and installed in their respective brackets, unwind the top and bottom supply rolls about half a turn each.

Step 5: Slide the feed tray into position and lock the active bolt.

Step 6: Close the safety shield and lock the active bolt.

Note: The machine will not power on without the feed table and the safety shield in the proper position.

Step 7: Close the laminating rollers with the knob on the right side of the machine. With the film draped over the two hot rollers, and melted together, push one edge of a test document between the hot rollers so that the film is firmly positioned.

Make sure the rollers are in closed position.

Step 8: Push the FWD button. If the film and the test document are in the nip (the point where the laminating rollers meet), the film and the docu- ment will start into the laminator and will pass through both sets of rollers. Press the 'STOP' button after finishing.

WARNING: For operator safety, the safety shield must be in position over the upper hot roller when the machine is

ON, or the FWD button is pressed.

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

FOR HOT LAMINATING

Turn on the machine, press the SELECT button until the

HOT lamp is on, then the machine will start heating. Set the temperature for your application.

The laminator will be ready to use in about six minutes.

Trial lamination

If the roll of film is to be used for the first time, it's best to conduct a trial first to make sure you achieve perfect lamination results. After the READY lamp is on, close the laminating rollers with the knob on the right side of the unit, press the FWD button, and let at least 250 mm of the film pass through the rollers before inserting the items to be laminated. Examine the film which exits the machine at the back of the machine. Adjust the machine according to the instructions described above until you achieve the perfect lamination results.

Remember: This machine has an auto memory function, that means if you work on the same roll, after the machine is switched on, the temperature and speed will be set to the same parameters of the last operation before it was switched off. You can start lamination work directly.

Attention! Leave enough space behind the machine, so that the laminated documents can come out easily and will not wind onto the roller. If the machine is stopped for a long period, decrease the temperature by 5 –10 degrees as this will prolong the life of the machine.

If the machine is stopped, set up the roller, otherwise there will be an imprint on the document.

Temperature setting

Normally, your film supplier should provide the information about the film application temperatures and operating characteristics. If you do not know the source of your film, or if the supplier cannot provide the information, please try the temperature and speed until you achieve the best results.

COLD LAMINATING

Press the SELECT button until the COLD light is on, set the speed at level 4 or 5. Load the cold film using the same procedures for hot film; or insert the cold film and the item to be laminated into the roller simultaneously.

WARNING: The adhesive side must face away from the roller.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Do not laminate metal or other hard items.

When you stop laminating, make sure to lift the top rubber roller using the knob on the right-hand side of the machine. Do not press the rubber roller. If you do so, it will shorten the life of the rubber roller and cause the rubber to become stiff.

Cleaning the machine regularly will help prevent the build-up of dirt and adhesive on the rubber rollers and will improve the performance of the machine.

CLEANING THE RUBBER ROLLERS

To clean the rubber rollers, lift the rubber roller, remove the film from the machine first, heat up the machine to

30 – 40 degrees Celsius. The warm roller makes it easier to remove the adhesive built up on the rollers. Lift the safety shield and take out the infeed table Using a clean, soft, ethanol dampened cloth, gently rub the adhesive off the roller.

WARNING: Never use any abrasive or sharp metal material or rub too hard on the roller, because you may damage the rubber surface.

Press FWD or REV button to start the roller and have it cleaned. After cleaning, position the infeed table and close the safety shield.

WARNING: if the film gets wrapped around the roller, press the STOP button (stop heating) immediately. Do not use any cleaning solution to clean the roller, because some solutions may burn the hot roller. After the roller cools down, cut the film on the top and bottom, just in front of the idler bars. Reverse the roller at a very low speed and allow the machine to eject the film that is wrapped around the rolls and then pull the film off the roller. Clean the adhesive off the roller.

PROBLEM SOLUTION

Please read this section if you are experiencing problems.

PROBLEM: No power is being supplied to the machine.

SOLUTION: Make sure there is power being supplied to the electrical outlet and that both ends of the power cord are firmly engaged. There are fuses inside the laminator, but the most common cause for this type of problem is usually dead power outlets or loose power cords.

PROBLEM: Film gets wrapped around the laminating rollers while hot laminating.

SOLUTION: The film is threaded improperly. If the adhesive side is facing the roller, the film will be wrapped around the rollers. Thread the film in the proper position.

PROBLEM: If the laminating temperature is too high, the film will be melted and wrapped around the roller.

Decrease the laminating temperature.

SOLUTION: Press the STOP button immediately. After the roller cools down, cut the film on the top and bottom, just in front of the idler bars, reverse the roller at a very low speed and allow the machine to eject the film that is wrapped around the rolls, and then pull the film off the roller.

PROBLEM: Wrinkling on a laminated material.

SOLUTION: Check the tension of the film, make sure the film is threaded properly (see film threading).

PROBLEM: Film is not properly adhering.

SOLUTION: The laminating temperature is too low and there is not enough heat for melting the adhesive.

Increase the laminating temperature.

PROBLEM: The laminated material seems to have a irregular surface that does not match the texture of the paper being coated.

SOLUTION: This is usually caused by adhesive or dirt building up on the rubber rollers. Inspect the rubber rollers and clean them. Damage to the rubber can also cause irregularities on the surface of the film.

PROBLEM: General haziness or cloudiness in the film after lamination.

SOLUTION: Increase the temperature or decrease the speed. That cloudiness is a result of incomplete adhesion.

On a variable speed machine loaded with thicker film, it may be that the film is running through to fast.

For problems not listed here, contact your local dealer.
