LM-DuraGrade supersteel now in all LM hand instruments
One of the most significant properties of a hand instrument is the high wear resistance of the
blade metal. Wear resistance is particularly important in periodontal and preparation instruments, which are sharpened on a regular basis. Sharpening is a time consuming and demanding
procedure. The use of highly wear resistant instruments results in considerable savings. Furthermore, working with sharp instruments is both satisfying and effective.
There have always been great differences between instrument manufacturers in the degree of
wear resistance. LM has long invested in materials technology research, which has resulted in
LM-DuraGrade, a new steel that represents the state-of-the-art in metallurgy and is used in all LM
instruments.
According to independent wear research and clinical testing, the wear resistance of LM curettes is
significantly better than that of the reference instruments studied.
The most important wear test results of the
LM-made Gracey Curettes and the two different
American-made Gracey Curettes. Samples USA1
and USA2 used in the tests were tips of new,
commercially available Gracey Curettes. The bars
represent the average wear resistance of the
samples examined in this study.
6
Relative wear resistance
LM curette wear research has been published in a scientific article in the January 2001 issue of dental periodical The Finnish Dental
Journal. The article was also separately published in English: Dr. Tech. Aino Helle, Research of the wear resistance of curettes. The
Finnish Dental Journal 2001; 1-2,+ VIII; 8-14.
A thin, hard handle strains the
hand and can lead to strain
injuries.
Colourful ergonomics
An ergonomically designed, lightweight, and correctly shaped instrument will not strain muscles
or tissue. Procedures are performed efficiently with even the lightest grip. Wrist and hand movements are transmitted easily and precisely to the working end of the instrument.
Instrument identification is also an aspect of advanced occupational ergonomics. Distinct, stylish
colours serve as an aid in both clinical applications and instrument maintenance.
Excellent sensitivity
and efficient
instrument control
Non-slip, light
and natural grip
The latest research can be felt
in the ergonomic form: handle
thickness, shape, elasticity,
centred tips and instrument
lightness.
LM-Instruments is a pioneer in instrument ergonomics. The life-long work of renowned and highly
respected university teacher and clinician, Dr. Pekka
Kangasniemi is closely related to the development
of instruments and other LM products.
7
Handle selection
LM instruments are available with either ErgoNorm or ErgoMax handles. The thinner
LM-ErgoNorm handle functions best in light clinical procedures. The hand fit plays a role
in selecting a handle type. By interchanging ErgoNorm and ErgoMax handle types, the
user’s hand is placed under even less strain.
ErgoNorm
ErgoMax
ErgoSingle
A new single-ended handle available in the autumn 2005. Especially good as a mirror
handle
- well-balanced
- optimised hand fit
- better reachability
The instrument name and code number are imprinted on the handle. Other printed codes
are e.g. the lines which denote either blade size, angle curvature or measuring scale.
When ordering remember to mention the code for handle type:
Si = ErgoNorm handle
(Ø 8.5 mm)
XSi = ErgoMax handle
(Ø 11.5 mm)
ESi = ErgoSingle
(Ø 11.5 mm)

Don’t compare, combine!
Instead of comparing ultrasonics and manual instrumentation
they should be used in concert. A blended approach incorporating both methods best serves the periodontal patient. Take
advantage of the best features of both methods and make
your choice by evaluating the attachment topography and root
surface textures. For ultrasonic instrumentation choose the
ergonomic and efficient LM-PowerHand ultrasonic device. Piezo
power system, silicone coated handpiece and a wide variety of
tips ensure comfortable and efficient treatment.
See page 58.
Keep instruments in cassettes
The use of LM-Servo instrument cassettes simplifies and
expedites the service cycle and protects instruments, thus
extending their service life. Instruments kept in cassettes
will stay in order, will be cleaned thoroughly, and are safe to
handle throughout the service cycle. During treatment the
cassette serves as an instrument tray. Instruments are easy at
hand at all times and the handling of individual instruments is
minimized.
See page 53.
Gentle and effective disinfection
LM-ProColor is an aldehyde-free hand instrument disinfectant,
which combines a wide effective spectrum, high cleaning power
and a gentle composition that protects various materials. LMProColor kills bacterial growth effectively, while maintaining the
original instruments properties. Careful service cycles and the
use of LM-ProColor guarantee a proper hygiene level in your dental practice.
See page 54.
Sharpening made easy
The regular inspection and sharpening of periodontal instruments ensure their optimal performance. With LM-RondoPlus
you can sharpen your instruments easily and fast with e minimal
metal wear. The ingenious sharpening method preserves the
original form of the blade and you automatically get the correct
blade angle. Sharpening makes sense. It enhances the ergonomics of your work and saves you money.

Sharpening made easy
The regular inspection and sharpening of periodontal instruments ensure their optimal performance. With LM-RondoPlus
you can sharpen your instruments easily and fast with e minimal
metal wear. The ingenious sharpening method preserves the
original form of the blade and you automatically get the correct
blade angle. Sharpening makes sense. It enhances the ergonomics of your work and saves you money.
See page 56.
Gentle and effective disinfection
LM-ProColor is an aldehyde-free hand instrument disinfectant,
which combines a wide effective spectrum, high cleaning power
and a gentle composition that protects various materials. LMProColor kills bacterial growth effectively, while maintaining the
original instruments properties. Careful service cycles and the
use of LM-ProColor guarantee a proper hygiene level in your dental practice.

LM-EndoMax
Endodontic files and reamers with maximized ergonomics
LM’s endodontic hand files with large handles are supreme in ergonomics.
Soft and thick silicone handle improves the grip and makes filing and rotating more comfortable.
LM-EndoMax files and reamers adhere to the contour of the canal, cleaning all surfaces evenly and
effectively.
- improved tactile sensitivity
- greater working comfort
- improved torque and force transmission
- visible identification stamples
- colour-coding according to ISO specifications
LM-Endomax
Reamers
LM-Reamers have loosely twisted and flexible triangular cross-section instrument blades. The
instrument is primarily designed for the apical preparation of straight canals, which is why the blade
can also be used for cutting. For this instrument, a rotating preparation motion is the most effective.
Endodontics
Hand files and
reamers
LM-EndoMax
K-Files
LM’s K-Files have an extremely flexible triangular profile blade. The larger cutting angle enhances
instrument use compared to a similar square profile instrument. Preparation waste can also be
removed from the canal more easily, because there is more room in the instrument threads. The
threads are tightly spaced and the tip is sharp, making the instrument ideally suited to the preparation of straight canals using filing and rotating motions. A short, back-and-forth preparation motion
is most effective for the instrument.
LM-EndoMax
Hedstroems
The blade on LM-Hedstroem files is milled instead of threaded like on other root canal instruments.
Especially well suited to procedures where space is made for the root canal orifice (coronal flare).
Hedstroem files are only intended for use with filing, back-and-forth preparation motions.
LM-EndoMax
NiTi Files
The material used for NiTi files differs from that used for K-files, whereas the file form is the same
on both. NiTi (Nickel-Titanium) is an elastic material, which will return to its original shape after bending or deformation. The instrument tip is not used for cutting, which makes LM NiTi instruments
ideal for the preparation of curved canals. Both a filing and rotating preparation motion are suitable
for these instruments.

LM-DuraGrade supersteel
One of the most significant properties of a hand instrument is the
high wear resistance of the blade metal. Wear resistance is particularly important in periodontal and preparation instruments, which
are sharpened on a regular basis. Sharpening is a time consuming and demanding procedure. The use of highly wear resistant
instruments results in considerable savings. Furthermore, working
with sharp instruments is both satisfying and effective. There have
always been great differences between instrument manufacturers
in the degree of wear resistance. LM has long invested in materials
technology research, which has resulted in LM-DuraGrade, a new
steel that represents the state-of-the-art in metallurgy and is used in
all LM instruments.

Instruments are easy at
hand at all times and the handling of individual instruments is
minimized.

LM-RondoPlus sharpening machine
Instruments used in treating hard tissue blunt quickly,
naturally compromising efficiency and results. Periodontal instruments should be sharp ened after every use. As
sharpening by hand takes time and wears down instruments, choose the better alternative!
Easy and quick
– simple method - the blade is held in the correct
sharpening position and the grinding stone rotates
– sharpening one instrument only takes a few seconds
– interactive demonstration and instruction CD, and
handy quick guide
Versatile
– for both periodontal and preparation instruments
– for both right or left-handed
– the direction of rotation can be selected
Accurate and safe
– a dual-position instrument rest. The upper position is
for preparation instruments and the lower for periodontal
instruments
– the original blade form is preserved
– when sharpening round or arched blades, the cover is
turned simultaneously resulting in the correct blade angle
and an even, sharp cutting edge
– low rotational speed - the blade will not heat up nor will
its temper be affected
The fine-grain ceramic stone is 400 grit. Instrument wear
is reduced as much as possible, thus increasing its service life. Finer and coarser sharpening stones are available as spare parts.

LM-PowerHand ultrasonic device
Ergonomics and efficiency
The ergonomic and user-friendly LM-PowerHand ultrasonic device makes procedures a
more pleasant experience for both the user and the patient. State-of-the-art electronics
allow the amount of force applied to be optimized to the level required for the procedure
in question. The control panel is located on the front of the device, thus allowing for the
convenient adjustment of machine output during a procedure. Piezo technology vibrates
the tip linearly and evenly, thus guaranteeing an effective and precise result.
Hygiene
LM-PowerHand has an outstanding hygiene concept. All surfaces are easy to wipe and
keep clean. All knobs and buttons are autoclavable. The silicone LM-ErgoGrip is easily
detached for cleaning and sterilizing.
Versatile and mobile
LM-PowerHand brings power and versatility to root canal treatment. In addition to the
fixed water line model, the device also comes in single bottle-equipped – LM-Solo – or
double bottle-equipped – LM-Duo – versions, which allow for the use of several fluids
during a single procedure. Separate dispensers make the LM-PowerHand extremely
portable – it can be easily moved from one room to another.
Endo function
The LM-PowerHand ultrasonic device has an endo function, which allows the power to
be reduced by 50%. This makes it possible to work safely when performing high-precision procedures.

LM-PowerHand HP is a sealed handpiece, which prevents from contamination and increases hygiene.
Large diameter guarantees a relaxed grip. A smooth surface makes it easy to clean and wipe. LMPowerHand HP is available in two different models, with and without a light. The handpieces come
equipped with LM-ErgoGrip or LM-ErgoGrip Light.
LM-ErgoGrip is removable and autoclavable, thus increasing hygiene. The soft material dampens the
vibration and, because the user is not touching any metal, the grip insulates against a cold feel. This
prevents CTS and blood circulation problems. LM-ErgoGrip is available in two different models.
