1. Microphone: Sound enters your device through the microphone.

2. Sound Tube: The sound travels to your ear through the thin tube. The tubes have a

Left or Right orientation for delivery to the appropriate ear.

3. Dome Tip: Your Personal Sound™ comes pre-fit with a soft Open Dome. In some cases, such as feedback problems or the desire for more amplification, it may be desirable to change to the included Plus Dome. Be sure to read the instructions on page 12 on changing the domes.

4. Battery Door On / Off: Close the door to turn your device on. Open the door to turn your device off.

5. Serial Number: Each device has a unique serial number on the body of the device.

6. Retention Hook: Flexible extension from the sound tube that secures the dome into the ear canal.

Page 5

Turning the Device On / Off

1. On: Simply close the battery door.

2. Off: When you are not wearing your

Personal Sound™, keep the battery door open to extend battery life. Fully opening the battery door also allows internal moisture to evaporate which keeps device electronics working well.

Retention Hook

• The Personal Sound™ will sit discretely over your ear on the appropriate side. The dome should be inserted comfortably into the ear canal. The thin sound tube should be close to the cheek along the front of the ear.

• Place the retention hook in the bowl of the ear following the orientation of the arrow shown above.

Allergic reactions to hearing devices are unlikely. However if you experience skin irritation, redness, swelling or soreness in or around your ears, please contact your physician.

• Using your other hand grasp the base of the sound tube.

Page 8

Removing the Sound Tube for Cleaning

Cleaning the Sound Tube

Top

Be sure that the tube and dome are kept free of debris and earwax. Even a small amount of vapor and tiny grains of debris may stop the flow of sound.

• Remove sound tube (See pages 8-9)

• Use a soft dry cloth or tissue to clean the outside of the sound tube and dome. Insert the cleaning wire at either end.

• Push the wire all the way into the sound tube until it comes out the other side

• Pull the wire through and retain for future use.

• Reattach the sound tube by snapping it firmly onto the brass nozzle on the body of the amplifier.

Do not use water to clean the tube as this may cause vapor or droplet blockage.

Page 10

Changing the Sound Tube

If the sound tube becomes discolored, stiff or brittle, it should be replaced.

• Remove the sound tube (See pages 8-9)

• Attach the new sound tube by snapping it firmly onto the brass nozzle on the body of the amplifier.

Changing the Dome

The soft dome tip may be changed when it becomes soiled. The frequency of dome changes will vary for different individuals.

• Remove the old dome by pulling it off the end of the sound tube.

• With clean fingers, push a new dome as far as possible onto the sound tube. When attached correctly, the dome should touch the plastic ring around the sound tube. (see figure above)

• If the dome is not securely attached to the sound tube, it could come off in your ear canal. If this happens, it may be necessary to see a hearing professional.

Battery Information

Your Personal Sound™ uses a size 10 battery. The lifespan of the battery is approximately 70 hours.

Please insert a battery upon receipt of the device.

Low battery Indicator

A warning of three double beeps every eight minutes indicates that the battery needs to be replaced. If you do not change your battery, you will hear another warning of six double beeps, at which time your device will automatically turn off.

Battery Information

Replacing the Battery

1. Gently pull open the battery door with your fingernail and remove the used battery.

2. Using the plastic tab of a fresh battery, place the battery into the battery compartment. While holding the battery in place, peel off the plastic tab.

3. To fully activate the battery, wait for one minute before gently closing the battery door. If the door does not close easily, check to see if the battery was inserted properly.

Battery Warning Information:

Dispose of used batteries in an environmentally friendly way. Do not place batteries in your mouth. If swallowed, contact your physician immediately or call the National Battery Hot line at 1-202-625-3333

Page 14

Volume / Program Control

Your Personal Sound™ allows you to adjust the loudness by briefly depressing the silver Rocker

Switch, upward or downward in small steps. A longer press on the switch changes the digital amplifier to the next adjacent listening program.

These environmental pre-sets change the basic level and tone property. You can use the volume control function (brief touch) in any of the pre-set programs to achieve your desired level for a given situation.

Page 15

Program Control / Telephone

Pushing the Rocker Switch for about 2 seconds on either the upper or lower multi-control button will cause the program to change. Pushing the upper part of the switch advances the program to the next numerical program; the lower portion reverses the program direction. You will hear the same number of beeps (1, 2, 3, or 4) to announce the program you are in each time you press and hold the rocker switch.

Each time the battery door is open (amplifier turned

Off) the device will return to Program 1 and the default Volume position.

Telephone

Most users can hold the phone in the normal manner with the Personal Sound™.

Caring for your Personal Sound

Do your best to keep your Personal Sound™ clean and dry at all times.

• Clean your device with a dry cloth. Do not rinse or submerge the device in water.

• Do not use water, alcohol, or other liquid agents to clean the device as they may damage it. If the device becomes wet, do not attempt to dry it in an oven or a microwave. Open the battery door, remove the battery and let the device dry naturally for 24 hours.

• When you’re not wearing your

Personal Sound™, open the battery door to allow any moisture to evaporate. Store your device in a safe, dry place, away from direct sunlight and avoid extreme temperatures.

• Remove your Personal Sound™ before using hair spray, spray perfume or shaving lotions, as these agents can clog or damage your device.

Do not drop your Personal Sound™ or knock it against hard surfaces.

LINX DSP® ADVANTAGE

Hearing abilities are like fingerprints. Everyone hears differently. The hardest to hear sounds are in the high frequencies and hearing abilities can vary by ear. Many people, even those with normal hearing, struggle to hear in noisy environments, or through heavy bass sounds. LINX DSP® amplifies hard to hear frequencies while reducing background noise to enhance sound quality and clarity.
