> MESSAGE TO PEDIATRICIANS AND MEDICAL STAFF
This car bed is designed to transport small infants lying down supine (on their back)
or if medically necessary, prone (on their stomach) or on their right side.
Before releasing an infant to be transported in this car bed, an infant born
prematurely must be evaluated per the American Academy of Pediatrics
recommendations for “Safe Transportation of Premature and Low Birth Weight
Infants”.
Infants should be positioned supine (on the back facing up) unless the specific
medical needs of the infant require positioning them prone (on their stomach) or on
their right side. Infants should never be positioned on their left side in this product.
• Positioning infant on right side:
When positioned on their side, padding should be used under infant’s head
to support head and maintain an open airway. The pediatrician or hospital
designated medical staff must evaluate the infant and define the padding
necessary. Padding should be minimized and firm to avoid potential
re-breathing issues which could lead to suffocation.
WARNING: Avoid serious injury or death Read and understand this manual!

or online at www.angel-guard.com
Keep this manual for future use. Store on bottom of car bed.
Pediatrician or hospital designated medical staff must educate the parent or
caregiver on how to properly position and monitor infant in car bed.
• Positioning infant on right side:
Educate the parent or caregiver how to properly pad under the head and advise
them that padding should be minimized and firm to avoid potential
re-breathing and potential suffocation issues.
- DO NOT use pillows or other soft items to pad under the head. Soft items
can present potential for re-breathing air and could lead to suffocation.
- DO NOT add padding under the infant between the torso and car bed pad
or between the torso and the harness that could lead to ejection in a crash.
AngelGuard
• Monitoring infant:
Educate parents and caregivers that due to the special medical needs of a
premature and/or low birth weight infant the condition of the infant must be
monitored at all times while in car bed. For infants positioned on their stomach
or right side, an adult must be restrained in a seating position next to the car
bed to allow visual monitoring and listening to the infant at all times.

A preterm or low birth weight infant requires special care and may be at special risk
traveling in a vehicle. Consult physician or designated medical staff about
positioning and transportation requirements before you and infant leave the
hospital.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that premature infants born
at less than 37 weeks gestation be monitored for possible apnea, bradycardia, or
oxygen desaturation before leaving the hospital. An infant with documented
desaturation, apnea, or bradycardia in a semi-upright position should travel in a
supine or prone position. The AAP also recommends that families minimize travel for
these infants.
This car bed is designed for use by an infant whose:
• Weight is less than 9 lbs (4.1 kg) and height is less than
21.5 inches (54.6 cm). This car bed is not designed to
protect an infant who exceeds these limits.
• Physical size allows the harness to be snugly adjusted
(see page 23).
• Do not use car bed if harness can not be adjusted to snugly
fit child with maximum one finger clearance between harness
and child’s shoulder (see page 23).
Once infant outgrows car bed, consult physician about transferring infant into
rear-facing child restraint or another special needs product for a larger infant.
> CHOOSING VEHICLE SEATING LOCATION
WARNING
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
• Never use car bed in front seat location with an air bag.
Child’s head or neck may be seriously injured if inflating air
bag hits car bed.
• Never use car bed in a vehicle seating location on driver’s side
of vehicle.
• Only use vehicle seat location where vehicle seat belt system
will hold car bed securely.
• According to accident statistics, children age 12 and under are safer when
properly restrained in rear vehicle seating locations, rather than in front seating
locations.
• Read vehicle owner’s manual or contact vehicle manufacturer to be sure
manufacturer permits child restraint use in seating location selected.
• To reduce the risk of head and neck injuries, the car bed should be positioned
such that the child’s head is near the center of the vehicle.
• DO NOT use a vehicle seating location which will place child’s head near door or
side of vehicle.

The following vehicle seat belt systems can be used with the car bed if the seat
location meets all other requirements in these instructions and the requirements in
vehicle owner’s manual.
A snug harness should not allow any
slack. It lies in a relatively straight line
without sagging. It does not press on
the child’s flesh or push the child’s body
in an unnatural direction.
Check harness adjustment:
Infant on back
- Proper adjustment will not allow
more than one finger between
infant’s shoulder and shoulder harness straps.
7
Vehicle Lap Belts:
Infant on side
(Right Side Only)
If infant is positioned on side, place folded blanket or firm padding under right
side of infant’s head to support head and maintain an open airway as directed
by pediatrician or designated hospital medical staff. Padding must be
minimized and firm to avoid potential suffocation.
- DO NOT use pillows or other soft items.
- DO NOT place padding under infant’s torso or harness
8
Recheck vehicle seat belt - it MUST securely hold car bed in place.
> VEHICLE SEAT BELTS
WARNING
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
• Car bed must be held securely at all times by a vehicle seat belt
(or lap belt portion of a lap/shoulder belt) that will stay secure
while driving.
• DO NOT use vehicle seat belt systems that will not securely hold
the car bed at all times.
Carefully read this section for information on vehicle seat belt systems and also
refer to vehicle owner’s manual and any labels on vehicle’s seat belt. If you are
unsure whether vehicle seat belts are safe to use with the car bed, contact vehicle
manufacturer or contact AngelGuard by calling 1-330-723-5928
or long onto www.angel-guard.com.

Vehicle Seat Belt Systems Suitable For Use With Car Bed:
• Manually adjustable lap belt 1 - manually
adjustable and stays tight.
This type of vehicle seat belt is tightened by pulling
on the excess belt once it is buckled. This type of
vehicle seat belt is most often found in rear center
seating locations.
• Lap belt with automatic locking retractor 2 automatically adjusts length but cannot lengthen
after it is buckled.
This belt has an automatic locking retractor (A.L.R.)
that does not allow the vehicle seat belt to lengthen
without unbuckling the vehicle seat belt and starting
over.
1
2
Vehicle Lap/Shoulder Belts:
• Lap/shoulder combination belt with locking latch
plate 3 .
Once it is buckled, this type of vehicle seat belt has a
latch plate that will not allow the lap portion of the
lap/shoulder belt to loosen. This vehicle seat belt does
not require a locking clip.
• Lap/shoulder combination belt with a latch plate
that can slide freely along the vehicle seat belt 4 .
This vehicle seat belt requires a locking clip, unless
vehicle seat belt can be converted in another way to
lock the lap belt. See vehicle owner’s manual to find
out if vehicle seat belt can be converted to prevent
movement of the lap portion of the seat belt. Otherwise,
the locking clip MUST be used.
To install locking clip (stored on back of car bed):
- Install car bed and tighten vehicle seat belt.
- Hold vehicle seat belts together at latch plate and
unbuckle.
- Slide locking clip on seat belts approximately
1/2 inch (1 cm) away from latch plate 5 .
- Re-buckle seat belt.
- Retest for secure installation and that lap belt stays
tight.

Seat Belt Systems NOT Suitable For Car Beds:
• DO NOT use a vehicle shoulder belt that moves along
a track to automatically surround the passenger when
the door is closed 10 . This vehicle seat belt will NOT
safely restrain the car bed.
WARNING
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
• DO NOT use the following types of vehicle seat belt systems with
the car bed. They will not hold the car bed securely in place.
• The metal locking clip provided with this product will NOT make
any of these vehicle seat belts safe to use.
If you have one of the above vehicle seat belt systems:
• DO NOT use it to secure the car bed.
• Look for a vehicle seat location that has a suitable vehicle seat belt.
• Contact vehicle manufacturer about installing a vehicle seat belt system or
available hardware that can be used to secure the car bed.
Vehicle Lap Belt:
• DO NOT use a lap belt that stays loose after buckling
seat belt and can move until it locks in a sudden stop
or crash 6 .
This vehicle seat belt has an Emergency Locking Retractor
(E.L.R.). It is often seen in combination with a motorized
shoulder belt. Since these lap belts will loosen if pulled on
slowly, the car bed may shift to an unsafe position. This
vehicle seat belt will NOT safely restrain the car bed.
10
6
NOTE: You may be able to convert your E.L.R. belt to one that is safe to use.
See vehicle owner’s manual for more information or contact vehicle
manufacturer.
> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Vehicle Lap/Shoulder Belt:
• DO NOT use a lap/shoulder combination belt where
each strap has a retractor at one end and is sewn to
the latch plate at the other end of the belt 7 unless
the lap belt can be locked in position.
If the lap belt can not be locked when adjusted around
the car bed, refer to vehicle owner’s manual for information
on use of the lap belt. This vehicle seat belt will NOT
safely restrain the car bed.
• DO NOT use a vehicle seat belt that is attached to
the front door in any way 8 .
This type of vehicle seat belt is designed to open with
the door and automatically surround the passenger when
the door is closed. This vehicle seat belt will NOT safely
restrain the car bed.
7
Certification
This car bed meets or exceeds all applicable requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard 213 for use in motor vehicles.
Aircraft Use
This Car Bed is NOT Certified for Use in Aircraft.
The car bed is too long to fit into typical aircraft seats.
8
Securing when not in use
Always secure car bed with a vehicle seat belt, even when not occupied by infant.
An unsecured car bed can injure other passengers.
Useful Life
• Some vehicle seat belts that are anchored forward of the
seat bight (seat crease) will not hold the car bed securely 9 .
DO NOT use a vehicle seat belt that is anchored forward
of the seat bight (seat crease) unless it holds the car bed
securely.

LATCH (Lower Anchorage and Tether for CHildren)
WARNING
To prevent serious injury or death to infant:
• DO NOT use this car bed if missing the instructions or any parts,
if modified, or if it has been in a vehicle crash.
• DO NOT allow any use after a crash. Undetectable damage may
have occurred. Car bed MUST be replaced.
The National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) has defined
requirements for an anchorage system for installing car seats,
called LATCH. See the LATCH Anchorage System symbol or the
LATCH Lower Anchor symbol, shown at right, in your vehicle.
The NHTSA has exempted infant car beds from LATCH System
requirements.
AngelGuard has not found the LATCH system to offer benefits
for ease of installation for this car bed design compared to
installation with a vehicle seat belt. AngelGuard does not make
a LATCH belt available for use with the car bed at this time.
> SECOND HAND CAR BED
