The MLC 52 IR and MLC 52 RS MediaLink Controllers are basic user interfaces
for A/V control in classroom environments. Both models can control a projector
via IR, while the MLS 52 RS also offers unidirectional RS-232 projector control
capabilities. The MLC 52 Series controllers allow instructors with little or no
training to walk into a multimedia classroom and operate the A/V system with
ease.

DESCRIPTION
Features (Cont.)
The Extron MLC 52 IR and MLC 52 RS Basic MediaLink™ Controllers
are economical control panels for any classroom environment. Each
model comes with a black and white faceplate and offers IR control,
while the MLC 52 RS also includes unidirectional RS-232 projector
control. By providing easy input selection, power, and volume control
these controllers make classroom A/V operations simple.
n Front panel configuration port – Advanced configuration, driver
downloads, and firmware updates can be performed via the front
panel configuration panel without removing the controller from its
installed location. The optional Extron CFG Cable
(Part # 70-335-01) connects the MLC 52 to the PC’s RS-232 port.
Simple, Consistent Control in Every Room
Each MLC 52 Series controller acts as an extended remote control
panel, providing user-friendly control for a projector’s power, volume,
and input selection. Because the MLC 52 IR and MLC 52 RS offer
a central point of control for a display device’s key functions, they
eliminate the need for the display’s IR remote control, making
operations much more efficient. With the MCL 52 IR and MCL 52 RS,
there are no misplaced remotes to search for, no confusing menus to
navigate, and no dead batteries. No matter what brand of projector
is installed in each presentation venue, the MLC 52 IR and
MLC 52 RS MediaLink Controllers always provide a consistent control
method from room to room. Presenters with little or no training can
walk into any MediaLink equipped classroom and operate the A/V
system with minimal effort.
Configurable Buttons for Flexible Control Options
No programming knowledge is necessary to install MLC 52
controllers. The four lower buttons on the MLC 52 IR and
MLC 52 RS default to Volume Up, Volume Down, Select PC Input, and
Select Video Input. Using the intuitive setup software available on the
Extron Web site (www.extron.com), these buttons can be configured
to send out any IR or RS-232 command supported by the display,
making it easy to customize the controller to meet the needs of most
single-display A/V systems. For example, three of the four buttons
could be configured for input selection, with the fourth button
dedicated to video mute or auto image. Each button can store up
to four separate commands, providing additional flexibility to meet
the specific control requirements for most display devices. When a
button is configured for Macro mode, all of the stored commands
associated with that button are sent with a single button press. In
Toggle mode, the button steps through a series of two, three, or four
commands, issuing a single command with each press of the button.
Features
n Universal projector control – The MLC 52 IR and MLC 52 RS have
dedicated ports for communicating with virtually any projector or
display via IR. The MLC 52 RS is also equipped with unidirectional
RS-232 wired serial control capabilities. Projector control drivers
for either controller can be downloaded from the Extron Web site
(www.extron.com) or created using the included configuration
software.
n Projector power control – Discrete ON and OFF backlit buttons
simplify system operations and eliminate the need for a handheld
IR projector remote.
n Inactivity timer for display shut-off – Adjustable timer control
provides automatic shutdown to preserve energy, prevent plasma
burn-in, or extend projector lamp life.
n Front panel security lockout – If the MLC 52 IR or MLC 52 RS is
installed in an unsecured environment where easy access is not
desirable, a security lockout feature may be implemented to lock
out all the front panel controls.
n High-impact plastic mounting faceplates – The MLC 52 IR and
MLC 52 RS each come with two one-gang, high-impact plastic
mounting faceplates (one in black, one in white) durable enough
for demanding environments.
Mounting options
MLM 52 1GWP
One-gang wall mounting kit with
metal faceplate, available in black or
white.
MLM 52 VC
Two-gang wall mounting kit with
an integrated volume control knob
(10k potentiometer) that allows
for remote volume control of an
Extron MPA mini power amplifier.
By using the volume control knob
to control the audio level, two of the
front panel control buttons on the
MLC 52 are free to be utilized for
other functions, such as picture
mute. In addition, the rotary-style
knob provides easier adjustment and
ensures more precise volume levels.
SMB Surface Mount Boxes
Designed for the external mounting
of almost all Extron architectural
products including wall plates,
Architectural Adapter Plates (AAPs),
and MediaLink™ controllers.
n Configurable buttons – Can be set up to control display power,
volume, input selection, or any other IR /RS-232 command
supported by the display.
n Backlit, easy to label buttons – can be customized for each
installation and provide easy operation for presenters in low-light
environments.
n Macro and Toggle modes – Each button can be set up to send
out multiple IR or serial commands. A button configured for
Macro mode will send several commands with a single button
press. A button operating in Toggle mode can be configured with
up to four individual commands, sending out a different command
each time the button is pressed.
EWB External Wall Boxes
Optional architectural solutions for
externally mounted Extron products.
Each external wall box is designed
with enough depth 2.5" (6.4 cm)
to house the wiring of a faceplate,
as well as take in cable runs from
a surface-mounted raceway or rear
wall space.
Three easy ways to configure
The MLC 52 IR and MLC 52 RS enable integrators to choose any of three methods when configuring the controllers. When used with the
supplied Windows®-based configuration software, configuration files can be saved and used to duplicate additional MLC 52 controllers. The
files can also be archived for later use.
