Xactimate v.27 Network Installation

Xactimate v.27 Network Installation
Requirements
Like all networked software applications, Xactimate Version 27 must be installed on a
workstation connected to a network that has been properly set up and mapped to a
shared drive (this document uses the X drive as an example). Xactware recommends
that you have a certified network technician set up and administer your network for you.
Xactimate Version 27 supports SQL Server 2005, and SQL Server 2005 Express
Edition. It also supports a peer-to-peer network configuration and installation. Before
installing Xactimate Version 27 on your network, it is critical that both your server and
each of your workstation computers meet all of the minimum system.
Requirements for Servers
Operating Systems Supported:
o Windows XP Service Pack 3
o Windows Vista
o Windows 7
o Windows Server 2003
o Windows Server 2008

Hard Drive Space
o At least 5GB of continual free space is required to run Xactimate. A
5400RPM drive is required
Monitor Resolution
o 1024x600 or higher
Important! If you have a previous version of Xactimate already installed on your
computer, it is critical that you back up your data using Data Transfer before updating to
Xactimate Version 27 (if you receive an error message during the data transfer process,
resolve that problem before updating to version 27). The installation of Xactimate
Version 27 will overwrite Xactimate v.25 on the same computer. Any data that is not
backed up beforehand will not be usable in Xactimate v.25 after it is upgraded to
Xactimate Version 27. After updating to Xactimate Version 27, you may need to
manually retrieve some assignments from your Xactimate v.25 backup.
Attention! Some profiles are only available in specific versions of Xactimate; the data in
these profiles will only be available within the approved version. If you require multiple
versions of Xactimate to run all your profiles, you may want to consider purchasing a
Multi-Version Install to make sure all your data is still accessible. You can purchase the
Multi-Version Install from
https://www.xactware.com/solutions/claims-estimating/multiple-version-install or by
calling 1-800-424-9228.
Preparing to Install
If your network meets all of the minimum system requirements, then follow the steps
below to install SQL Server Express on your server. Before you install Xactimate
Version 27 on a workstation, the server must first be prepared. If you do not have a
dedicated server, you can use a workstation that meets the minimum system
requirements as the SQL Server Express server (that workstation would now be
referred to as the ―server‖ for purposes of installing Xactimate Version 27). This
computer can still be used as a workstation with minimal impact for the user. If
Xactimate needs to be installed on the server (as when using a peer-to-peer network),
Xactware recommends you install the workstation version of Xactimate Version 27 on
the server after the other workstations have been properly installed and configured. If
you have a dedicated server, you may choose to install just SQL Server or SQL Server
Express, and not Xactimate Version 27. Dedicated server networks do not need the
Xactimate Version 27 workstation install performed on the server.
Note: An install of SQL Server Express is available on the Xactimate Version 27 DVD and
should allow up to ten users to access the network with minimal effect to network
performance. For networks with more than ten users, Xactware recommends that a full
version of SQL Server be installed on your server.

If your network meets all of the minimum system requirements, then follow the steps
below to install SQL Server Express on your server.
If you are upgrading from Xactimate v.25 to Xactimate Version 27, skip to ―Upgrading
Xactimate v.25 to Xactimate Version 27‖ on page 18. If you are performing a fresh
network install of Xactimate Version 27, follow the steps below to prepare your server.
Installing SQL Server Express
If you do not already have SQL Server Express installed on your server, you can use
the version of SQL Server Express that is available on your Xactimate Version 27 DVD.
Xactware recommends you use the Xactimate Setup—Network batch file. When you
use this batch file, the Xactware instance is automatically created, the network protocols
are enabled, and the correct user name and password is set.
Attention! If you are installing on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows
Vista (SP1 or previous) you will need to first install Windows Installer 4.5 before
installing SQL Server Express 2008. The installer can be downloaded from Microsoft at
their website: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b64412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4&displaylang=en
To install SQL Server Express,
Step 1
Insert your Xactimate Version 27 DVD into your computer. If the Xactimate
Version 27 install begins, cancel the install.
Step 2
Open My Computer, right-click on your DVD-ROM drive, and select Open.
Step 3
Double-click on the SQLExpress folder.
Step 4
Locate and double-click on the Setup—Network batch file. The batch file
automatically performs the SQL Server Express install.

When the install is complete, the install window closes.
Enabling Network Protocols
If you are using the SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 Express Edition, perform the
following steps on the server to enable the network protocols.
If you already have SQL Server installed, depending on your configuration, network
protocols may need to be enabled on the server in order for the workstations on the
network to communicate.
Note: If you used the Setup—Network batch file to install SQL Server Express, you can
skip this section and move on to “Opening the Windows Firewall” on page 7.
Step 1
Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Manage.
Step 2
From the Computer Management window, click on the plus sign [+] next to
Services and Applications.

Xactimate Version 27 Network Installation
Set Up Mapped Network Data Location
Prior to setup, you must have a network share mounted on the local machine. This share
needs
to have full permissions for all workstations that will be running Xactimate Version 27. This
drive must be mounted on all workstations that will be using Xactimate Version 27 with the
exact same context and drive letter. (i.e. X:\server\share). The network folder where the
Xactimate data resides will need full permissions set for user accounts that will be running
Xactimate.

Network—Choose this option to configure a network for the first time from the first
workstation. This will set up a network on the server and set up the current
machine as a
workstation. The network option will need to be selected only once on the first
workstation you are installing. Each additional workstation will require the
Workstation
option.
Workstation—For each additional workstation that you are adding to the network
you
will select this option. This is only to be selected if the network has already been
configured on another workstation using the ‗Network‘ option.
Local and Workstation—This option is selected in the case that you have a
preexisting
local install that you would like to also connect to a pre-existing network. Note
that both must be configured before proceeding with this option.

is server001, you would type server001\xactware into this field).
Note: If you created your own named instance of SQL, you would enter the name of
that instance instead of xactware at the end of this entry
(e.g., „serverName\instanceName‟).
Step 13
The SQL User and SQL Password fields are set as by default. Unless you have
created your own named instance of SQL, leave these as they are; otherwise
populate the fields as you have set them up with your instance.
