and Vision

Mountfield have been a number one UK brand for almost fifty years. Mountfield lawnmowers, lawn tractors and garden care products all share a reputation for

outstanding quality and reliability.

Mountfield began manufacturing rotary lawnmowers at premises in Maidenhead in 1962; the modern, high specification machines of today bear little resemblance to their ancestors but all share a common ethos.

Customers often write to tell us about their Mountfield mowers, some of which have been providing sterling service for almost as long as we have been in business. For many, their Mountfield is like a reliable old friend, perhaps eased into semi-retirement assisted by a new acquisition but greatly valued nonetheless.

Mountfield dealers also share our commitment. When you buy from an authorised stockist your mower will be fully assembled and tested so you receive it ready to use. Your dealer will also provide you with any warranty, service and spare parts support you may need in the future.

If you have a garden of at least half an acre you should consider purchasing a Mountfield lawn rider or lawn tractor.

Our range starts with compact lawn riders which really are an economic alternative to larger walk-behind mowers yet still small enough to drive through a standard garden gate.

They’re great fun to use too!

For larger gardens of an acre or more a lawn tractor is a must and if you have a lawn tractor it can do much more than cut grass. Choose an accessory from the Mountfield range to make light of the heavy work around your garden.

Most Mountfield riders and lawn tractors utilise a “3-in-1” cutting system. This features a mid-mounted cutter deck with either single or twin blades. Grass clippings can be cut and discharged into a rear mounted collector ready for disposal or discharged to the rear of the machine using a deflector kit. If you want to recycle your clippings instead simply fit a mulching kit, or take a look at a dedicated mulching machine. .

With a choice of cutting widths up to 122cm combined with plenty of engine horsepower and either 2WD or

4WD the Mountfield range offers machines for gardens of up to five acres. All models are light and easy to handle and for additional ease of use we also have manual or hydrostatic transmission options; a hydrostatic transmission provides infinitely variable ground speed control similar to an automatic car.

Whether your lawn is a regular shape or complex with borders, trees and garden furniture to negotiate mowing your grass will be easier, quicker and more fun with one of these stylish riders.

Best of all – they can cost as little as a premium walk behind mower.

Choose between Mountfield or Honda engines, both offer efficiency and power to spare. Compact Riders feature a mechanical Varispeed transmission that operates like a semiautomatic gearbox on a car. There’s no need to change gear, simply move the control lever forward or back to adjust your ground speed. It’s no wonder these models are best sellers in the

Mountfield range - they offer genuine lawn tractors at prices normally associated with smaller riders.

Powered by Mountfield, Briggs & Stratton, or Honda single cylinder engines they also offer options of a manual gearbox with 5 forward gears and reverse or a hydrostatic transmission providing variable groundspeed control similar to an automatic car.

All these models have a twin-bladed 90cm working width cutter deck with electronic blade engagement. Clippings are discharged cleanly and efficiently into a 260 litre capacity collector which can be emptied from the driving seat. These exciting Mountfield lawn tractors provide an effective solution if you don’t want to collect your grass clippings.

Instead of discharging clippings into a collector these mulching tractors retain them beneath the cutter deck to be cut and recut into small particles which are blown down into the lawn where they decompose and return valuable nutrients to the soil.

Mow your grass on a regular basis and you’ll save time, money and effort without sacrificing the standard of finish.

At times the growth may be too vigorous to mulch effectively.

In these conditions simply select the side discharge function, grass will be neatly cut and spread allowing it to wilt naturally.

These four Mountfield lawn tractors all feature our highly efficient 102cm Cut and Collect system.

Twin contra rotating blades cut and discharge clippings into the large rear mounted collector in one smooth operation. Garden debris such as autumn leaves and pine needles can also be collected in the same way. An alarm sounds when the collector is full and resets automatically once it has been emptied. And you can empty the collector without leaving the driving seat.

When conditions are suitable why not fit an optional mulching kit? Clippings are then circulated inside the deck and re-cut until they are small enough to be blown deep into the turf.

Recycling clippings in this way will save you time, money and effort.

Power and performance are key on these top of the range lawn tractors. Their high output 122cm cutter decks soon cut large areas of grass down to size.

Twin cylinder Briggs & Stratton engines powering infinitely variable hydrostatic transmissions deliver smooth and controllable drive to the wheels. Controls are ergonomically designed and placed within easy reach of the operator. A fully adjustable seat and illuminated diagnostic display add to the driving experience.

The 2448H 4WD has a “Dial a Height” control – select the height of cut to suit your conditions and this setting will be retained. For sure grip on slopes or in adverse conditions it also has the added benefit of 4WD.

An audible alarm notifies the operator when the collector is full, however, when conditions are suitable collection and disposal of grass clippings can be eliminated by fitting the mulching kit supplied. Did you know that a half acre lawn can produce more than 4 tons of grass clippings in a single season? Do you really want to collect and dispose of all that grass?

The innovative design of the Multiclip mulching decks fitted to this range of ride-on mowers retains grass within the deck area to be cut and re-cut into very small particles which are then blown right down into the turf, out of sight, where micro-organisms speed their decomposition.

Recycling clippings in this way returns valuable nutrients to the soil, reducing the need for artificial fertilisers whilst producing a healthy, attractive lawn. Those 4 tons of clippings contain some 100 pounds of nitrogen as well as other valuable trace elements, all essential for healthy growth and all provided free as you mow.

It’s quicker too! Mowing time is significantly reduced compared with traditional cut and collect systems as there is no need to stop work in order to dispose of grass clippings.

Mountfield 2000 and 4000 Series mowers look very different from most other ride-on mowers, and they are.

Their front mounted Multiclip Combi cutter decks not only give a superb finish they provide the operator with excellent visibility and cut the grass before it is run over by the wheels of the machine. Another tremendous advantage is their ability to access those places; such as into corners or under bushes that you can’t reach with a mid-mounted cutter deck.

Suitable for gardens of around an acre the 2000 Series feature rear wheel steering. For larger areas the 4000 Series combine front mounted cutter decks with genuine articulated steering to provide the ultimate driving experience. All models are powered by Briggs & Stratton Powerbuilt series engines and have hydrostatic transmissions for infinitely variable ground speed control.

If you have a car with 4WD you will appreciate the confidence this inspires. On our 4WD model an oil pump powers two separate hydrostatic transmissions; these in turn power differentials to give a system that doesn’t chew up the turf, even when driven enthusiastically.

Multiclip Combi cutter decks recycle your grass clippings and save you time, money and effort without sacrificing the standard of finish; or when the grass is longer select the rear discharge facility. In Multiclip mode cut no more than a third off the length of your grass at a time, this ensures there is room in the standing grass to accommodate the cut grass particles so you’ll have a clean, neat finish every time.

Choosing the right lawnmower can seem daunting - but it needn’t be difficult if you follow this guide.

The first thing to consider is the size of your garden. Is it small, medium, large or extra large? If we use a tennis court as a reference point, small gardens are around half a tennis court, medium up to three quarters and large up to one and a half.

Extra large gardens are half an acre or more and a ride-on mower would be a more appropriate choice.

Depending on the size of your garden you may have a choice of power source. Mains electric mowers are quiet, lightweight and easy to use; they are ideal for smaller gardens. Petrol engine mowers are a better choice for larger areas as they are more powerful and not restricted by a cable. Modern petrol engines are easy to start; on some you just have to turn a key.

Mowers with 4 wheels are highly manoeuvrable and give an excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a classic striped effect finish you’ll need a machine with a rear roller.

Cosset ultra fine lawns with a cylinder mower, they cut grass with scissor like precision. You’ll find more information on

Mountfield cylinder mowers on page 36.

Hand propelled machines have to be pushed to make them move forward, the motor or engine’s sole function is to drive the cutter blade. Power driven models have a transmission so they require less effort to use; just engage the drive and the mower will move forward.

The chassis, or cutter deck, may be made of polypropylene, steel with a powder coated paint finish or aluminium. It houses the blade and determines the working width, from 33cm to

53cm.

Finally, do you want to collect your grass clippings? As well as conventional mowers with grass collectors we have a range of

Multiclip machines which save time, money and effort by recycling clippings, see page 32 for more information.

Some models have to be pushed to make them move forward. Power drive models have a transmission, when this is engaged the mower moves forward. This mower has a 4 speed transmission.

For additional ease of use choose a mower with electric key start. Turning the key starts the engine.

The greater the capacity of the grass collector the fewer times you’ll have to empty it. Multiclip and Combi mowers recycle the clippings – there’s nothing left to collect.

All Mountfield mowers have an operator presence control (OPC) lever – a safety device which stops the engine within seconds of it being released.

This throttle control allows you to vary the engine speed to suit your working conditions.

Some models have quick release handle fittings like these – an advantage if you need to fold the handles for storage.

Our petrol mowers are powered by either

Mountfield, Honda or Briggs & Stratton engines. All of them are 4 Stroke and run on unleaded petrol with a separate tank for the oil. More information on each type is shown above – power outputs are listed in the tables in the back of this brochure.

Apart from the side valve V35 model all Mountfield engines have overhead valves (OHV). Simple, compact and durable OHV engines have highly efficient combustion providing excellent power output.

The Honda engines fitted to our mowers have overhead cams

(OHC). This type of engine is slightly more complex than an OHV type but has fewer moving parts so is quieter. The cam is driven by a belt.

All of the Briggs & Stratton engines used on our range of Mountfield walk behind mowers are the traditional side valve type so called because the valve is located at the side of the combustion chamber.

4 Wheel mowers give an excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a striped effect finish select a machine with a rear roller.

Levers are used to adjust the cutting height. This mower just has one lever; other models may have 2, 3 or 4 levers.

The chassis, or cutter deck, may be made of polypropylene, steel with a powder coated paint finish or aluminium. It houses the cutter blade and determines the working width of the mower.

Princess 14

A well established favourite in Mountfield’s portfolio for over 20 years the Princess 14 justifies its reputation as the quality electric mower for smaller lawns. Powered by a quiet 1,150 watt brushless induction motor it has central height of cut adjustment and a rear roller.

EL350

This stylish 4-wheel mower has a 33cm cutting width and is fitted with a 1,100 watt motor. Keeping your lawn neat and tidy is simplicity itself with this lightweight, highly manoeuvrable, easy to use machine.

Petrol engine mowers are an ideal choice for larger areas, they are more powerful than mains electric mowers and not restricted by a cable. Modern engines are easy to start – especially Mountfield’s own range of powerful engines.

Developed specifically for lawnmower applications Mountfield engines comply with stringent noise and vibration legislation even when powering the cutting blade at 3,000rpm – the optimum speed for high performance. Suitable for general purpose use 4 wheel machines provide an excellent finish on all types of lawn. Both the push and power drive versions of these 41cm cutting width mowers are powered by 135cc Honda GCV135

OHC engines. Power driven mowers have drive to the rear wheels as well as the cutter blade to make light work of mowing, especially on slopes.

With a 46cm cutting width this mower is fitted with a 135cc Honda

GCV135 OHC recoil start engine and has power drive to the rear wheels.

Quick release fittings allow the handles to be folded easily for storage. The

High Wheel mowers allow you to do this but they still cut low enough for normal lawn maintenance. Oversized rear wheels extend the cutting height range to a maximum of 90mm. For conventional use a minimum setting of

Manor 95H

Fitted with rear cultivator

Fit a rear tine cultivator and the Manor 95H makes a tough job so easy. Simply engage the drive and follow the machine. On established vegetable plots you will produce a seed bed in one pass. On hard, unbroken ground you may need two or sometimes three passes to get the depth and tilth you require.

What can be a back breaking job couldn’t be easier.

Scythe

This scythe or cutter bar mower can be fitted in minutes and is designed for cutting long grass, brambles, light scrub and similar materials. The 87cm blade cuts the grass once and lays it neatly aside for later clearance if required.

Ridging Plough

Earthing up potatoes can be hard work but this ridging plough makes it so quick and easy to do. Let the powerful tractor pull the plough through your soil and it’s no longer a back-breaking task.

This rotary grass cutter is another excellent piece of kit. With a 53cm cutting width it will even tackle grass and nettles some two feet tall.
