Lamp & Filter Replacement
_ INSTRUCTIONS
-
lNrnooucrroN
These instructions explain how to replace and adjust the lamp assembly in a HAL series
projector. This procedure involves replacing the old lamp assembly, aligning the new
lamp for maximum uniform image brightness, and recording the serial number of the
new lamp to reset the projector's lamp timer. Also included are instructions for
replacing the 2 air filters in the projector. NOIE: Control Room models have no outside
projector covers.

Replace the lamp:
OFF THE PROJECTOR. Allow the cooling fans to automatically turn off before
unplugging. This will take about five minutes.
WARNtlrlG
Never attempt to remove the lamp when it is hot. The lamp is under
high pressure when hot and may explode, causing personal injury
and/or property damage. Allow several hours or overnight for the
lamp to coolcompletely before attempting this procedure.

INSTALL THE NEw LAMP ASSEMBLY: The new lamp module has been precisely mounted
on its own alignment bracket during manufacture. Do not alter this assembly or swap
lamps from one bracket to another. Make sure that the lamp is facing in the right
direction-the lens faces towards the center of the projector-and carefully lower the
new lamp assembly straight over the 2 bracket pins (DLV 128O, Figure 2) or 3 bracket
pins (DLV 12BOi, Figure 3) in the projector. Take care not to touch or bump the lamp
module or the integrator.

SIEP 2 Align the lamp
Once installed, you must precisely align the new lamp to ensure maximum image
brightness/uniformity and projector reliability. Perform this adjustment by adjusting
specific screws on the lamp bracket as described below.
A wlnuNc A
Lamp alignment is MANDATORY. An improperly
aligned lamp can damage opticalcomponents.
1)
2)
3)
WARM UP THE PROJECTOR. With the projector lid off, turn the projector on and allow it
to warm up for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, set up a light meter at the center of your screen.
SELECT A TEST PATTERN. Select a full white field test pattern using either the projector
internal test pattern (MaNUl Z I A ) or an external source.
ADJUST x-Axls SCREW. Locate the single front spring-loaded screw at the front edge of
the lamp bracket (see Figure 6). This screw will slightly move the distribution of light on
the screen from side to side. Adjust as necessary to obtain a maximum light reading at
the center of the screen.
Figure 6. Adjusting for Side-fo-Side Brightness
4)
the 3 small set screws on the top of the lamp bracket
(each is paired with 3 large spring-loaded screws-do notadjustthese). See Figure 7.
The 3 set screws work together to slightly move the distribution of light up or down on
the screen and to change overall brightness. Adjust these screws equally and in tandem
to obtain a maximum light reading at the center of the screen.

Apply the U,V. Iight shield material
off the backing on the flexible metallic U.V. light shield that came with your lamp

Replace the side and top filters
It is a good idea to replace the side filter whenever the lamp is re-'
(or more
frequently if the operating environment is very dusty). Severely {-,oggut ..lters may
prevent cooling air from reaching projector components.

Dispose of oM lamp
Locate the relief

stem on the end opposite the glass window of the lamp. With a pair of
side cutters, make a tiny cut on the stem surface. DO NOT COMPLETELY CUT THIS
STEM OFF. DIRECT THE STEM AWAY FROM ANYONE OR ANY NEARBY SURFACE.
Using a pair of pliers, grasp the relief stem firmly and bend the stem sufficiently to
break the seal and allow the xenon gas to escape. Xenon gas is harmless and can be
allowed to escape into the atmosphere.
You can now dispose of the lamp with regular waste.
NOIEi lf you do not feel comfortable with the above disposal procedure, ship the otd
lamp assembly back to your closest Christie Service depot. tJse the same container that
came with the new lamp.
