These units were tested per the guidelines provided by the Department of Energy (DOE) in the Federal Register / Vol. 73 No. 239 /
Thursday, December 11, 2008 / Notices / pages 75408 – 75417. Testing was done in accordance with the DOE guidelines and ARI Draft
Standard 1230, which is based on ARI Standard 340/360 and ISO Standard 13256-1. All units meet or exceed ASHRAE 90.1 efficiency
requirements.
Important: Interpreting the Test Results
COP and EER
Testing on these units was performed at full load per the test standard so the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and Coefficient of
Performance (COP) are based on a fixed energy consumption level. Because of this, many of the energy saving benefits of these Variable
Refrigerant Flow Zoning (VRFZ ) systems are not truly reflected in these numbers. Some of the other ways these units maximize energy
use, which are not included in EER and COP are:
1. Inverter driven compressor varies the system capacity based on load demands. Capacity can vary from 100% down to 16%.
2. Smart coil technology automatically varies the indoor unit capacity based on space cooling or heating requirements.
3. The CITY MULTI VRFZ systems can take advantage of building load diversity by using up 130% (Y Series) and 150% (R2 Series)
connected indoor unit capacity. In many cases this can result in smaller capacity outdoor units required to condition the space.
4. Each R2–Series system has the ability to transfer heat from one area of the building to another. As an example; at 50% heating and
50% cooling demand, no energy is rejected or absorbed from the outdoors. The energy is moved from one part of the building to another
within the system.
IPLV
Integrated Part-Load Value (IPLV) is not an ASHRAE 90.1 requirement but it better demonstrates the energy saving capabilities of the
CITY MULTI VRFZ systems by taking into account efficiencies at varying capacity conditions. However, it still doesn’t account for items 2 –
4 above. Another important note when comparing these IPLV number to chillers is to know how the calculation/testing was done. The IPLV
values above include all power required to condition the space. Chillers that commonly use IPLV ratings often do not include other energy
consuming devices within the system when arriving at their values. Items such as pumps for water circulation and blower motors in the air
handling devices are often excluded.

When using a rubber isolating cushion, please ensure it is large enough

Use four fixing plates as shown in the right figure <field supply required>
when using post-installed anchor bolts. (Fig.B)
To prevent small animals and water from entering the unit and damaging its parts,
close the gap around the edges of through holes for pipes and wires with

make sure that the through hole at the base of the unit does not get blocked

2.Twinning pipe (High pressure) should not be tilted more than 15 degrees from the horizontal plane.
3.Be sure to see the Installation Manual for details of Twinning pipe installation.

Joint Adapter Kit CMY-R160J for BC Controllers is used to combine two ports of the BC Controller for a PURY-P-T(S)HMU/
Y(S)HMU system to enable downstream indoor unit capacity above P54 as shown in Figure 1.

1. Designing CMY-R160J to a PURY-P-T(S)HMU/
Y(S)HMU System
The maximum downstream indoor unit capacity for one
port on a BC Controller is P54. When the downstream
indoor unit capacity is above P54, Joint Adapter Kit
CMY-R160J is needed to combine two ports on a BC
Controller to enlarge the capacity; see Groups 2 and 3
in Figure 1.
A maximum of three indoor units are allowed to connect
to one port of a BC Controller or two combined ports of
a BC Controller using CMY-R160J.
When connecting indoor units to one port of a BC
Controller or two combined ports of a BC Controller
using CMY-R160J, CMY-Y102S-G2, and CMY-Y102LG2 is applicable; see Groups 1 and 2 in Figure 1.
Caution: Simultaneous operation of cooling and heating
modes for indoor units connected to the same BC
Controller ports is not available.

2. Piping at the Installation Site
Refer to Figure 2 for connecting the CMY-R160J to the BC Controller and the pipe leading to the indoor units. Non-oxidized brazing is necessary. Avoid getting foreign material inside the piping. After piping installation and testing for air-tightness, insulate the
joint and pipe. Details are available in the Installation Manual.

S-SERIES
! WARNING: When the main supply is turned off, the voltage [340 V] in the main capacitor will drop to 20 V in approx. 2
minutes (input voltage: 240 V). When servicing, make sure that LED1, LED2 on the outdoor circuit board goes out, and then
wait for at least 1 minute.
• Components other than the outdoor board may be faulty: Check and take corrective action, referring to the service manual.
Do not replace the outdoor board without checking.
NOTES:
1.Refer to the wiring diagrams of the indoor units for details on wiring of each indoor unit.
Self-diagnosis function
The indoor and outdoor units can be diagnosed automatically using the self-diagnosis switch
(SW1) and LED1, LED2 (LED indication) found on the multi-controller of the outdoor unit.
LED indication : Set all contacts of SW1 to OFF.
• During normal operation
• The LED indicates the drive state of the controller in the outdoor unit.
