What is a programmable room thermostat?
A programmable room thermostat is both a programmer
and a room thermostat. A programmer allows you to set
“On” and “Off” time periods to suit your own lifestyle. A
room thermostat works by sensing the air temperature,
switching on the heating when the air temperature falls
below the thermostat setting, and switching it off once this
set temperature has been reached.
So, a programmable room thermostat lets you choose when
you want the heating to be on, and what temperature it
should reach while it is on. It will allow you to select different
temperatures in your home at different times of the day (and
days of the week) to meet your particular needs.
Turning a programmable room thermostat to a higher setting
will not make the room heat up any faster. How quickly the
room heats up will depend on the design of the heating
system, for example, the size of the boiler and radiators.
2
Any setting selected will not affect how quickly the room
cools down. Turning a programmable room thermostat to
a lower setting will result in the room being controlled at a
lower temperature, and will save energy.
The way to set and use your programmable room thermostat
is to find the lowest temperature setting that you are
comfortable with, and at the different times you have chosen.
Then leave it alone to do its job.
The best way to do this is to set a low temperature first,
say 18°C, and then increase the setting by one degree
each day until you are comfortable with the temperature.
You should not have to adjust the thermostat further. Any
adjustment above these settings may waste energy and cost
you more money.
If your heating system is a boiler with radiators, there is
usually only one programmable room thermostat to control
the whole house. But you can have a different temperature in
an individual room by installing thermostatic radiator valves
(TRVs) on each radiator. If you do not have TRVs, you should
choose a temperature that is reasonable for the
3
whole house. If you do have TRVs, you can choose a slightly
higher setting to make sure that even the coldest room is
comfortable. In the other rooms adjust the TRVs to prevent
any overheating.
The time on the programmer must be correct. The clock will
have to be adjusted in spring and autumn at the changes
between Greenwich Mean Time and British Summer Time.
Programmable room thermostats need a free flow of air
to sense the temperature, so they must not be covered
by curtains or blocked by furniture. Programmable Room
Thermostats must be sited to avoid localised heat from
sunshine, electric fires, televisions, and wall or table lamps
that may prevent the thermostat from working properly.
4
Installation Procedure
DO’s
1. Do mount the thermostat at eye level.
2. Do read the instructions fully so that you get the best from
our product.
DON’Ts
1.Do not install near a direct heat source as this will affect
the workings of the thermostat.

throughout the day. For example, you may want the home
warm in the morning when you are getting ready for work,
cooler during the day when the house is unoccupied and
then warmer in the evening when you are home relaxing.
The thermostat offers 5/2 Day Programming (4 levels for
the weekday, 4 for the weekend), 7 day Programming
(4 separate levels for each day of the week) or 24 hour mode
(all days of the week following the same 4 levels).
See pages 16-21 for details on how to switch between
these modes.
Tip! If you don’t want to use all of the comfort levels, just set
the time to --.-- and the thermostat will ignore this setting.

THE FOLLOWING SETTINGS ARE OPTIONAL AND
IN MOST CASES NEED NOT BE ADJUSTED
Optional Features Explained
Feature 01 – Temperature Format: This function allows you
to select between °C or °F.
Feature 02 - Switching Differential: This function allows you
to increase the switching differential of the thermostat. The
default is 1°C, which means the thermostat will switch the
heating on 1°C below the set temperature and will turn it off
when the set temperature is achieved. With a 2°C differential,
the heating will switch on 2°C below the set temperature and
will switch off when the set temperature is achieved.
Feature 03 - Frost Protect: You can set whether the
thermostat will maintain the frost temperature when the
thermostat display is turned off. As a default, this is enabled.
16
Feature 04 – Frost Protect Temperature: This is the
temperature maintained when the thermostat is in frost
mode. The range is 6 - 17°C, the default is 6°C.
Feature 05 – Output Delay: To prevent rapid switching, an
output delay can be entered. This can be set from 00 to 15
minutes. The default is 00, which means there is no delay.
Feature 06 – Communication Address: This setting
does not apply to this model.
Feature 07 – Temperature Up/Down Limit: This function
allows you to limit the use of the up and down temperature
arrow keys. This limit is also applicable when the thermostat
is locked and so allows you to give others limited control over
the heating system.
Feature 08 – Sensor Selection: On this thermostat, you can
select which sensor should be used. You can select between
built in air temperature only, remote air sensor only or built in
sensor & floor temperature. When you enable option 02 (built
in & floor) the floor sensor is used as a floor limiting sensor and
is designed to prevent the floor from overheating.
17
Feature 09 – Floor Limit Sensor: This function allows you
to set a maximum floor temperature in order to protect
the floor surface from overheating. This function only
applies when the floor sensor is enabled. (see feature 08)
The default setting is 28°C but this can be adjusted from
20 - 45°C.
Feature 10 – Smart Start: The thermostat will automatically
learn the required heat up time and will adjust itself. Smart
Start will bring the heating on early when the weather is cold,
or delays the start up time when the weather is mild so that
the house is warm when you wake up. This means you do
not need to allow any extra heat up time when programming
the comfort levels.
Feature 11 – Rate Of Change: This is the number of minutes
the thermostat has calculated it takes to raise your building
1°C. The thermostat will continue to learn the heat up time of
your home and will adjust this setting to suit (Smart Start).
18
Feature 12 – 5/2 Day 7 Day, Programmable: This function
allows you to switch between 5/2 Day Programming (4 levels
for the weekday, 4 for the weekend), 7 day Programming
(4 separate levels for each day of the week) or 24 hour mode
(all days of the week following the same 4 levels).
