GEUS-Supplied Universal Remote

Programming Instructions

OVERVIEW

Your GEUS-supplied Universal Remote Control can control up to four devices, including

GEUS Cable Converters, most TVs and VCRs, and auxiliary components. The codes for your components were entered at setup.

If you purchase a new TV or VCR or add additional equipment, you will need to reprogram your remote control.

For best results, please read and follow all of these instructions. You may want to print them out for future reference.

NOTE: The remote control does not have any user serviceable parts. Opening the case, except for the battery cover, may cause permanent damage to your remote control.

PROGRAMMING TV CONTROL

1. Turn on the TV.

2. On the remote, press and hold TV (#1) for at least 6 seconds. Wait for the programming mode to start. The light for each mode key (the four buttons across the top, just below the Motorola logo) will turn on and off in sequence, starting with AUX and continuing through TV. The sequence will repeat twice. Release the TV button. Wait until the TV button stays lit.

3. Locate the TV setup code for your TV in the code list at the end of these instructions. Brands are listed in alphabetical order. The most popular codes are listed first.

4. Using the number keys on the remote (#11) enter the first four-digit code listed for your TV. If this is a valid code, the TV light will blink 3 times.

NOTE: If you enter an invalid code, the TV light will turn off. In that case, you will need to repeat steps 2 through 4 using another code.

5. Aim the remote at your TV and press POWER (#3) once. The TV should turn off. If it doesn’t turn off, repeat steps 2-4, trying each code listed for your TV until you find the one that operates it. If your TV still doesn’t work with the remote, try searching for the proper code. (See Searching For The Code on page 3.)

1

6. Write down your TV code for future reference.

NOTE: Remember, to use the remote to operate your TV, press TV (#1) first.

PROGRAMMING VCR CONTROL

1. Turn on your VCR and insert a video cassette.

2. On the remote, press and hold VCR (#1) for at least 6 seconds. Wait for the programming mode to start. The light for each mode key (the four buttons across the top, just below the Motorola logo) will turn on and off in sequence, starting with AUX and continuing through TV. The sequence will repeat twice. During the sequence release the

VCR key. Wait until the VCR button stays lit.

3. Locate the VCR setup code for your brand of VCR in the code list at the end of these instructions. Brands are listed in alphabetical order. The most popular codes are listed first.

4. Using the number keys on the remote (#11), enter the first four-digit code for your

VCR. If this is a valid code, the VCR light will blink three times.

NOTE: If you enter an invalid code, the VCR light will turn off. In that case, repeat steps

2 through 4 using another code.

5. Aim the remote at your TV and press POWER (#3) once or PLAY (#13). If VCR does not respond, repeat steps 2-4, trying each code listed for your brand until you find the one that operates your VCR. If your VCR still does not work with the remote, try searching for the proper code. (See Searching For The Code on page 3.)

6. Write down your VCR code for future reference.

NOTE: Remember, to use the remote to operate your VCR, press VCR (#1) first.

Some TV/VCR Combo codes may require a separate TV code to control volume. Check the codes above and follow the instructions in Programming TV Control above using the supplied TV code. If there is no TV code listed for your TV/VCR Combo’s operating code, you will need to use the volume control capabilities of the cable converter.

2

PROGRAMMING AUXILIARY COMPONENT CONTROL

To program the remote to control an auxiliary component (e.g., a second TV or VCR, or

Digital Audio Tuner):

1. Turn on your auxiliary component (and if it’s a VCR, insert a video cassette).

2. On the remote, press and hold AUX (#1) for at least 6 seconds. Wait for the programming mode to start. The light for each mode key (the four buttons across the top, just below the Motorola logo) will turn on and off in sequence, starting with AUX and continuing through TV. The sequence will repeat twice. During the sequence release the

AUX key. Wait until the AUX button stays lit.

3. Locate the setup code for your type of auxiliary unit (e.g., VCRs, TVs) or audio service in the code list at the end of these instructions. Brands are listed in alphabetical order with the most popular codes listed first.

4. Press AUX, VCR, CABLE, or TV (#1) once to let the remote know what type of device you want to assign to the AUX mode.

5. Using the number keys on the remote (#11) enter the first four-digit code listed for your auxiliary component. If this is a valid code, the AUX light will blink three times.

NOTE: If you enter an invalid code, the AUX light will turn off. In that case, repeat steps

2 through 5 with another code.

6. Aim the remote at your auxiliary component and press POWER (#3) once or

PLAY (#13) if it’s a VCR. The device should turn off (or start playing the tape). If the auxiliary component does not respond, repeat steps 2-6, trying each code listed for your brand until you find the one that operates your auxiliary component.

If it still does not work with the remote, try searching for the code.(See Searching for

the Code below.)

7. Write down the auxiliary component type and its code for future reference.

NOTE: Remember, to use the remote to operate your auxiliary component, press AUX

(#1) first.

3

SEARCHING FOR YOUR CODE

If the brand of your TV, VCR, or Auxiliary Component isn’t included in the setup code list or if the unit does not respond to the remote after trying all of the codes listed for your brand, try searching for your code.

For example, after trying all of the codes for your TV, the TV doesn’t respond to the remote:

1. Turn on the TV.

2. On the remote, press and hold TV (#1) for at least 6 seconds. Wait for the programming mode to start. The light for each mode key (the four buttons across the top, just below the

Motorola logo) will turn on and off in sequence, starting with AUX and continuing through TV. The sequence will repeat twice. During the sequence, release the TV button.

Wait until the TV button stays lit.

3. Press the

Ç

(#6) once to start the search mode.

NOTE: In the search mode, the remote will send codes from its library to the selected component, starting with the most popular codes first. When the component responds to a subsequent key command (e.g., POWER (#1)), the correct device code has been found.

4. Press POWER (#1) once. The TV button will blink on and off, showing that a code has been sent.

5. If your television does not turn off, press

Ç

(#6) again to call up the next code. Press

POWER (#1) again.

6. If your television still does not turn off, repeat step 5 as many times as needed until your TV turns off.

7. When the remote finds a valid code, your television will turn off. Press OK (#7) once to save the code. The TV (#1) button will blink three times, confirming the selection.

8. To search for codes for your other components, repeat steps 1 through 7. Substitute the appropriate device button (i.e., VCR or AUX) for the component that needs a code search.

CHECKING THE CODES

When the remote is set up using the Searching For Your Code procedure, you can identify the four-digit code that is valid for your equipment by following the steps below. (Do this only after you have found a code that works!)

For example, to find out the code that is valid for your TV:

4

Release the TV button. Wait until the TV button stays lit.

3. Press 9 - 9 - 0. The TV button will blink three times.

4. To view the first digit of the code, press and release number 1 (#11). Count the number of TV button blinks (e.g., 3 blinks = 3) and write down the number. If the TV button does not blink, the code digit is “0”.

5. Repeat step 4 three more times, once for each remaining number in the code. Write down the four digits of the code for future reference.

6. To check for the codes of your other components, repeat steps 1 through 5 beginning the process with the appropriate device button (i.e., VCR, or AUX) for the component you are checking.

CHANGING VOLUME LOCK

This procedure is NOT required for changing the volume while you are using your

TV or VCR. See Adjusting the Volume in the Online Users Manual.

Your new remote is set to control the volume of a component through its associated mode

(i.e., through the cable in the Cable mode, through the TV in the TV mode, and through the auxiliary device in the Aux. mode).

If your TV volume can not be controlled by remote or if you would like the volume to be controlled by a different component, you can change the Volume Lock setting to control a volume through a non-associated mode (e.g., through the cable in the TV mode).

Changing the Volume Lock setting to the Cable or TV mode will change the volume control for all modes except Aux., which will continue to control its own volume. If you change the Volume Lock setting to the Aux. mode, all modes (i.e., Aux., Cable, and

TV) will be controlled by the Aux. mode.

NOTE: The volume controls will not operate if Volume Lock is set to VCR mode.

To change the Volume Lock setting to the TV mode:

1. On the remote, press and hold TV (#1) for at least 6 seconds. Wait for the programming

5

mode to start. The light for each mode key (the four buttons across the top, just below the

Motorola logo) will turn on and off in sequence, starting with AUX and continuing through TV. The sequence will repeat twice. Release the TV button. Wait until the TV button stays lit.

2. Press and release VOLUME + (#9).

3. The TV button light will blink three times to show that volume control has been locked to the TV mode.

4. Now, whenever you press VOLUME + (#9),VOLUME -(#9), or MUTE (#15) on the remote, volume will be controlled by your TV.

To change the Volume Lock setting to the CABLE mode:

1. On the remote, press and hold CABLE(#1) for at least 6 seconds. Wait for the programming mode to start. The light for each mode key (the four buttons across the top, just below the Motorola logo) will turn on and off in sequence, starting with AUX and continuing through TV. The sequence will repeat twice. Release the CABLE button during this sequence. Wait until the CABLE button stays lit.

2. Press and release VOLUME + (#9).

3. The CABLE button light will blink three times, indicating volume has been locked to the CABLE mode.

4. Now, whenever you press VOLUME + (#9), VOLUME - (#9), or MUTE (#15) on the remote, volume will be controlled by your Cable Converter.

To change the Volume Lock setting to the AUX mode:

1. Release the AUX button during this sequence. Wait until the AUX button stays lit.

2. The AUX button light will blink three times, indicating volume has been locked to the

AUX mode.

3. Now, whenever you press VOLUME + (#9), VOLUME - (#9), or MUTE (#15) on the remote, volume will be controlled by your Auxiliary Device.

To unlock Volume Lock:

6

1. On the remote, press and hold a mode button (#1) for at least 6 seconds. Wait for the programming mode to start. The light for each mode key (the four buttons across the top, just below the Motorola logo) will turn on and off in sequence, starting with AUX and continuing through TV. The sequence will repeat twice. Release the mode button during this sequence. Wait until the button stays lit.

2. Press and release VOLUME – (#9).

3. The mode key light will blink three times, indicating volume has been unlocked for the selected mode.

4. Now, whenever you press VOLUME + (#9), VOLUME - (#9), or MUTE (#15) on the remote, the volume controls will reset to their original device.
