DIGITAL GAUGE Digital OIL Temp Gauge

DIGITAL GAUGE
Digital OIL Temp Gauge
OWNERS MANUAL
Part No. 17-852, 17-853, 17-854, 17-855, 17-859
*Before installing the digital temperature gauge, carefully read these instructions.
USES
This gauge is designed for use on motorcycles, cars, karts, snowmobiles, etc.
Features
-Water temperature or oil temperature measurement capability is capable of measuring a wide range of
temperatures from -50°C to 250°C (-58°F to 482°F).
-LED Lighting allows the display to be read in the dark.
-Auto Change automatically displays the tachometer reading when the ignition is switched on and displays the
time when the ignition is switched off. (This function is available only if the red lead of the LED light cord is
connected to the lead that receives current when the ignition is switched on.)
-Celsius or Fahrenheit display allows the display to be switched between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F)
scales.
-Compatibility with wide range of vehicles allows measurement water temperature for many vehicles.
*In order to use the oil temperature gauge capabilities, make sure you have selected and purchased the
appropriate kit with adapter to the plug size you need.

-Sturdy and water-resistant construction is made to withstand everyday use in any weather condition.
* This item is not completely waterproof. Do not submerge in water or expose to pressurized water.
-Internal battery is a chargeable lithium battery(ML2430/3V) equipped inside the gauge, but is not
exchangeable. The fully charged internal battery allows all functions except for the LED lighting to be used if
the gauge is not connected to the vehicle's battery. LED light functions only if the gauge is connected to the
vehicle's battery or a dry cell battery purchased separately.
If the temperature gauge is connected to the vehicle's battery and the ignition is switched on, the
temperature gauge automatically begins drawing power from the vehicle's battery in order to conserve the
internal battery. While being connected to vehicle's battery or a dry-cell battery purchased separately, internal
battery is automatically charged. If the internal battery has been fully used, all displays will be reset. If this
happens, the internal battery should be charged by connecting it to an external battery (12V or 9V).

INSTALLATION
1. Drain coolant or oil as needed. NOTE: When disposing of drained coolant or oil, always obey local disposal
laws and regulations.
2 (See SENSOR INSTALLATION.)
2. Install sensor ○
-For measuring water temperature: by removing the stock sensor and installing the new sensor in the
same place.
2 , then install the adapter on vehicle.
-For measuring oil temperature: install adapter on the sensor ○
3 in a comfortably visible place.
3.Secure the digital temperature gauge using fastening tape ○
4. If necessary, connect LED light code to vehicle's battery or a 9V dry cell battery purchased separately.
*Be sure to ground the black GND-code even if the LED light code is not connected to external battery
in order to stabilize the display. Non resistor spark plug or racing plug may cause display freeze. If this is the
case, change it to a resistor spark plug.
*The chargeable lithium battery(ML2430/3V) inside the housing cannot be exchanged. Disassembling
the gauge will cause serious damage such as malfunction and/or foggy display, etc. Disassembling this device
waves all responsibilities and guaranteed of seller. *DO NOT use AC power supply. It will damage the circuit.
*In case the display disappears in the matter of minutes after being charged, it may be the end of
battery life. Battery exchange must be done by a designated distributor of Daytona.
SENSOR INSTALLATION
NOTE: When this digital temperature gauge is installed on vehicles already equipped with a stock water temperature
gauge or a temperature sensor, the sensor on this gauge replaces the one on the stock gauge. The stock gauge and the
warning lamp will no longer function.
-On many models, replacing the stock gauge contained in the thermostat housing with this meter is necessary. On some
vehicles, the gauge is attached directly to the cylinder.
If there are two sensors in the thermostat housing, one is for the radiator fan and the other is for the water temperature
and warning light. Replace the water temperature/warning light sensor.
-The sensor's threads are tapered (PT1/8). DO NOT screw this sensor into any other size thread.
-The supplied sensor can only be used for this digital temperature gauge. DO NOT use any other type of sensor, including
ones for earlier Daytona temperature gauges (Daytona part #14655 or #14656)
-The colors of the major leads on the thermostat unit are as follows.
Manufacturer

Honda
Green/Blue
Yamaha
Green/Red
Suzuki
Black/Green
Kawasaki
Yellow or Yellow/White
*The lead colors listed above may differ depending on the model.
CONNECTION TO VEHICLE BATTERY (LED BACKLIGHT CORD)
Special features when the red lead of the LED light cord is connected to the lead that receives current when the ignition
is switched on.
-When the ignition is turned on, the LED light receives current from the vehicle's battery and turns on.
-The power source is automatically changed from the internal battery to the vehicle battery in order to conserve the
internal battery's power.
-Auto change function operates, and the time is automatically displayed about 30 seconds after the ignition is switched
off.
In order to make maximum use of this function, the following wiring is recommended.
4 , connect the red lead of the LED light cord to the lead that
*For two-wheeled vehicles: Using the coupler ○
receives current when the ignition or the lights are switched on.
4 , connect the read lead of the LED light cord to the lead that
*For four-wheeled vehicles: Using the coupler ○
receives current when the lights are switched on.
*Connecting to ground (GND)- connect the black lead of LED light cord to the vehicle ground or ground lead.
*Colors of the major positive battery leads are listed below by manufacturer.

*The lead colors listed above may differ depending on the model.
*On vehicles where it is impossible to connect to the vehicle battery, a 9V dry cell (006P) may be used instead.
