Out-of-band Management: in order to dial-up the Firewalls, you will need to configure the modems
for out-of-band management.

Procedure:
A. Prepare the analog Modem for dial-up access. Set the Modem maximum speed to 9.6K
1. At the Modem, set the switch 1, 3, 8 ON (Down) and connect the Modem to your PC as follows.
(Power off the Modem before setting the switch)

2. At the computer, open up Hyper Terminal and connect to the Modem.
3. At the Modem console, enter command: at&N6 (set the Modem speed to 9.6K)
If the modem has no DIP switch, configure the modem using AT commands as following
At&f0q1e0s0=1&b0&n6&u6&m4&k0&w (skip step 4, 5 below)
4. Enter command: at&W0 (Store configuration 0)
5. Power off Modem and set the switch 1, 4 ON (Down), the rest should be UP (OFF).
B. Connection diagram
1. Connect an analog Modem to a Netscreen Firewall
Connect the Null modem cable to Console port at Netscreen. Even though Modem port can be used, it is
recommended to reserve this port for dial backup.
2. Connect an analog Modem to a Cisco Router
C. How to set up a dial-up connection at your computer (Settings for Hyper Terminal)
* Same procedure for Netscreen Firewall and Cisco Router
1. Change your PC/laptop modem maximum port speed to 9600 bps.
2. Open up Hyper Terminal at your PC/laptop and select your PC’s modem for connection. Enter the
remote access phone number, click OK.
3. Click Dial
4. When it is connected, press Enter and you should able to see the login screen.
(Please log out from Firewall/Router before disconnect Hyper Terminal session)
D. How to set up a dial-up connection at your computer (Settings for SecureCRT)
* Same procedure for Netscreen Firewall and Cisco Router.
1. Create a new session and set configuration.
Create a new session and select TAPI at protocol. Click next.
Enter the remote access number then click Configure
Change the settings as follows.
2. Connec to Netscreen Firewall or Cisco Router
3. When it is connected, press Enter and you should able to see the login screen.
