Three New VN-856 IP Cameras Replace the VN-855
Series, Offering Superior Performance at the Same Price
E
arly in 2009, Vicon will begin transitioning from the VN-855 Series to the new VN-856
Series, introducing each of three new models as current VN-855 inventory is depleted. The
VN-856 cameras are compatible with ViconNet versions 4 and 5. These new color, day/night
and WDR IP cameras offer several improvements over their predecessors. These include:
1) All three models feature digital noise reduction (DNR), allowing the cameras to
provide superior performance in low light conditions. The cameras apply DNR algorithms to process the video prior to transmission, greatly reducing the noise that typically plagues video captured in low light. The result is cleaner images with more discernable detail, as well as smaller video files that require lower bandwidth for transmission and less storage space.
2) All three 856 cameras offer configuration using an on-screen display (OSD) menu system.
Within the 855 line, only the WDR version provided this convenience.
3) A new “Sens-Up” mode controls sensitivity as it automatically detects the light level in dark or
night environments and maintains a clear picture.
4) Programmable privacy masking zones allow for sections of the image to be shaded out so that
the operator may not view video within these areas. Four zones are offered in the color and
day/night cameras. The WDR version offers eight.
5) Mirror settings allow for viewing of a reverse image. This is useful in situations when a camera
is aimed at a mirror rather than directly at the desired scene, so that the captured image is
reversed. Using the mirror setting returns the view to a proper orientation.
6) All three cameras offer a horizontal resolution of 540 TV lines. Within the 855 series, the WDR
version only offered 480.
7) With the release of ViconNet 5.2, all models will feature remote camera menu settings, allowing
for camera settings to be modified over the network.
