Thank you for your purchase of Peachtree Audio loudspeakers. Your new speakers include advanced technology in loudspeaker design and manufacturing. The drivers are proprietary designs insuring the best possible sound and quality control. This is one reason for the extended bass response as well as the overall balance and extended high-frequency response. The cabinets are constructed using thick MDF (medium density fiberboard) panels covered in high-quality real wood veneers. A quick tap of the knuckles on a cabinet will yield a dead response as a result.
Peachtree Audio D4 and D5 speakers should provide outstanding performance and years of listening enjoyment. Please take time to read through this manual to ensure you get maximum performance out of your new loudspeakers.
Placement
Regardless of which Peachtree Audio speaker you have chosen, placement is key to the best sound. In an ideal setting the listener would form an equilateral triangle with the speakers, in a room with little or no boundary reflections. Since this is usually impossible, the best method is trial and error. The goal is to get an equal amount of focused acoustic energy aimed at the listener from each speaker. This will result in a good stereo image, with the placement of vocals and instruments spread accurately between the two speakers.
The D4 and D5 speakers will sound their best placed on sturdy stands, with the tweeters at approximately ear level for a seated listener. Placement up to 24 inches from a rear wall will provide the most open sound; adjust distance from the wall to balance bass output with midrange and highs. "Toeing in" the speakers will provide a more focused stereo image; experiment to create the degree of focus vs. spaciousness that is most pleasing to your ears. In the real world we know that small speakers like the
D4 or D5 must sometimes be placed on a bookshelf. In this case be sure to keep your speakers at least two inches from the rear wall so as not to block the bass port.
Connecting
Your speakers are equipped with high quality binding posts. These connectors accept bare speaker wire, spade lugs or banana plugs. Be sure to observe correct polarity when connecting to your amplifier (consult your amplifier owner's manual if necessary).
Be careful not to let stray strands from the positive (+) and negative (-) speaker wires touch each other.
Using With a Subwoofer
If you are using D4's or D5's with a subwoofer, we recommend the "small" setting for the main speakers, if your amplifier or receiver gives you a choice. If you are given the option of setting a crossover frequency we suggest 60-80 Hz for the D4 and 50-60 Hz for the D5, to allow the speakers to blend properly with your subwoofer.
