Horizon and Pegasys
Question: What is the EP emulation key?
Answer: The EP emulation key allows Horizon to receive images from Pegasys using the
Codonics print driver provided on the Pegasys. This key is required for non-DICOM printer
installations. Most Pegasys printer installations use this driver and therefore require this key.
If you are replacing an NP series or EP series printer with a Horizon SF, you will very likely need
this key.
Question: Prints using the driver are consistently dark, regardless of the settings in the printer’s
KDU.
Answer: Create a Custom Job Setting in the Horizon called RAW_JS and change the LUT setting
to Visual:
1. Press and hold the left arrow button ( Å ) while pressing the Menu button. Release
both buttons.
2. Press the down arrow ( ↓ ) to the Custom Job Settings menu and press Enter.
3. Select New…
4. Select Name
5. Press the left ( Å Æ ) and right arrows simultaneously to blank out the MYSETTINGS
name.
6. Using the up and down arrows, ( ↑ ↓ ) enter the name RAW_JS and press Enter.
7. Arrow down to LUT and press Enter.
8. Change LUT to Visual and press Enter.
9. Press Menu to exit.
The rest of the image settings (gamma, contrast, saturation…) may also be controlled from this
menu.
Question: Where are the larger page formats in the driver setup?
Answer: The driver supports small-format (8x10, A) printing only. Large format printing must be
done using DICOM.
Question: What is the oldest Horizon software that will work with a Pegasys?
Answer: 1.7.0.
Question: How do I print A4 color paper through the driver?
Answer one: Set the driver settings Film Size ID to A (US Letter) and the driver setting Color
to Color. Set the front panel Default Media Æ Color to A4 CV Paper.
Answer 2: If answer 1 does not work, edit the codonicsprint.cfg file. Find the entry for color
media and edit the setting for film_size_ID to show A4 for European letter. Also ensure that
grayscale=NO.
Question: The Horizon is prompting for 8x10 CV Paper. Where can I get this?
Answer: This is not a valid media combination. Check the Codonics configuration screen (either
through DICOM or the driver, depending on your installation.) Make sure that both the media size
and the media type are set up correctly.
Additionally, through DICOM make sure the AE title is a-cvp or a4-cvp, as appropriate.

Question: The Print Preview screen refuses to activate when using DICOM.
Answer: Turn Print Preview off in the Configuration screen then turn it back on:
1. Go into the DICOM configuration: Patient Utilities Æ DICOM Utilities Æ DICOM
Configuration Æ Printer radio button Æ turn off Print Preview.
2. Exit Configuration.
3. Re-enter configuration and turn Print Preview back on
4. Save & Exit.
5. Restart Printer Daemon (DICOM Utilties Æ Restart DICOM Print Daemon).
Question: Color printing is not working through DICOM.
Answer: Make sure you have DICOM software 4.24 or 4.25. Also make sure that you have Color
selected in the DICOM or Driver setup.
Question: The printer is printing multiple copies of an image. Only one copy is set in the driver.
Answer: Turn on Print Preview.
Question: Codonics Driver ONLY: Prints are too dark, regardless of changes made to the front
panel Default User Settings.
Answer: Create a special Custom Job Setting for the printer:
1. Go to the printer and press the left arrow and the Menu key ( Å + Menu ).
2. Press the down arrow to Custom Job Settings, then press Enter.
1. Go to New… and press Enter.
2. Go to Name and press Enter.
3. Press the left and right arrows ( Å Æ )simultaneously. Enter the name RAW_JS by
using the up and down-arrows. Press Enter when this is complete.
4. Next, go to the LUT setting and press Enter. Change the LUT to Visual.
5. Press Enter, then Menu, then send a print from the Pegasys to verify the change.
6. If further adjustment is required, return to the Custom Job Settings menu (steps 1 and
2), go to Edit, and change the Gamma value to 1.3. Exit using Menu. Test this new
configuration, and increase the gamma by .3 until the desired lightness is reached.
Gamma typically should not go above 2.0.

Horizon and JETStream
Question: Can I use the PostScript driver to do all of my JETStream printing?
Answer: Yes. With version 1.0 of JETStream it’s recommended. The media type settings like ACVP, 14x17 blue film, and image settings like gamma and contrast are all controlled from the
Advanced driver properties. Refer to the driver setup instructions on the driver CD or at
www.codonics.com.
Question: Using Windows-based printing I am getting annotations on each page with the word
“Unknown” in each field. Make them stop.
Answer: Go into Printer Selection Æ Windows Printer Æ HardCopy Builder Æ
Advanced and uncheck all the boxes. This step will need to be performed prior to each print:
Question: I’m getting Association Errors when printing using DICOM. Ping is OK, and I know the
printer has DICOM installed. I also checked for dupe IP.
Answer: Make sure the first five characters of your printer name are unique.
EP-1000
Question: Can I print color transparencies or film-type medias?
Answer: No.
Question: I can’t get the internal test print to work.
Answer: Boot the printer up normally and make sure the red FAULT light is not on. Turn the
printer off. Then turn it on again, only this time hold the Online button until the light to its left stops
blinking. Let go.Wait at least 5 seconds, then press and release Print.When the print has
finished, press the Online key again.
Question: Prints look strange and green where there should be black.
Answer: Flip the paper over; the EP-1000 prints with the shiny side up.
Question: The printer has stopped printing. The FAULT light is not on.
Answer 1: Make sure the Interface light is solid green on Parallel and the Online light is solid
green.
Answer 2: Pull the power cable out of the network converter. Turn the printer off. Wait 10
seconds. Turn the printer on. When it has stopped blinking, make sure the Interface light is on
Parallel and the Online light is solid green. Re-insert the power cable to the network converter.

MCM
Question: What is MCM?
Answer: MCM stands for Medical Color Matching, Codonics’ exclusive method of matching color
printed output to the monitor. This setting is designed only for color images and has no effect on
grayscale prints. We have designed several MCM profiles for Philips Nuclear Medicine products.
The following table describes the MCM settings and in which products they are available. If an
unavailable MCM is set -- for instance, 105 with a Pegasys driver -- no MCM will be applied to the
image.
