SUBJECT: Video present behind dark shadows on the top, bottom, or one of the
sides of the picture.
BACKGROUND: The DLP shows a dark bar on the top, bottom, or one of the sides of the
screen. This is due to a defective Light Tunnel inside the Light Engine.
SOLUTION: Replace the Light Tunnel. Do not replace the Light Engine.

PROCESS DETAIL:
1. Remove Light Engine from the unit using procedures from the Service Manual.
(2 screws & 2 wiring connections)
2. Light Engine disassembly.

Remove the Cover Duct (clip)
Remove the Lamp (1 screw)
Remove the Ballast Cover (2 screws)
Remove the Color Wheel Cover (2 screws)
Remove the Ballast Holder Assembly (3 screws & 2 wire connections)

Remove the Color Wheel (2 screws & 2 wire connections) *Note* It is extremely
important to keep the Color Wheel free of debris (dust, dirt, fingerprints, etc.)
Remove the Lamp Housing Assembly (3 screws)

Loosen the top and side Light-Tunnel adjust screws A & B

Remove the Light Tunnel Housing (2 screws [1 & 2] )

Remove the Light-Mirror from the housing (2 screws and 2 clips)

Replace the old broken Light-Mirror with the new one. When doing this it is
extremely important to match the direction of the mirror with the old one. The
smaller end of the tunnel is supposed to be at the end where the metal bracket is
screwed in.
Reverse the instructions to reassemble the light engine.

Re-install the Light Engine making sure to connect all connectors, but do not screw
into place, and do not install the back cover.
Secure the Door Safety Switch in the closed position.
Turn the unit on and enter the service mode.
Pull up an all white test pattern off the DMD Board, (DDP3021), and check to make
sure that the screen is now clear of any shadows.
Possible Problems: As you can see below, upon installing the new Light-Mirror, there still
may be some shadows on the screen. See figure 6.

Solution: When this occurs, it just means that the adjustment screws are either too tight
or too loose. Simply adjust screw A for a top or bottom shadow issue, or screw B for a
side shadow issue.
