Before operating the unit, please read these instructions thoroughly and retain them for future reference.

Installing the Batteries

(See fig. A)

Open the battery compartment lid.

2 Insert two R20 (size D) batteries (not supplied) with correct polarity.

3 Close the lid.

Replacing the batteries

When the sound becomes weak or distorted, replace all batteries with new ones.

Notes on batteries

• Do not charge the dry batteries.

• Do not carry the dry batteries with coins or other metallic objects. It can generate heat if the positive and negative terminals of the batteries are accidentally contacted by a metallic object.

• When you are not going to use the unit for a long time, remove the batteries to avoid damage from battery leakage and corrosion.

• Do not use different types of batteries at the same time.

• When you replace the batteries, replace all with new ones.

Operating the Radio

In vehicles or buildings, radio reception may be difficult or noisy. Try listening near a window.

1 Set POWER to “ON”.

Power is turned on.

Set BAND to SW, MW or FM.

Tune in a station using TUNING.

The TUNE indicator lights up when a station is tuned in.

Adjust the volume using VOLUME.

To turn off the radio, set POWER to “OFF”.

To improve reception

FM: Extend the telescopic antenna and adjust the angle and length for the best reception.

SW: Extend the telescopic antenna and adjust the length for the best reception.

MW: Rotate the unit horizontally for optimum reception. A ferrite bar antenna is built into the unit.

Note

Adjust the direction of the antenna, holding the bottom of it. The antenna can be damaged when:

- you move the antenna, holding the tip of it.

- you turn the antenna in the vertical direction to the unit.

- you move the antenna with excessive force.

To listen with an earphone v (earphone) jack

When an earphone (not supplied) is connected to the v jack, the sound through the speaker cannot be heard.

Attaching the Supplied Carrying Strap

(Middle Eastern model only)

When you carry the unit, use the supplied carrying strap.

Pass the strap under the bar on each side of the radio.

Precautions

• Operate the unit only on 3 V DC with two R20

(size D) batteries.

• The nameplate indicating operating voltage, etc. is located on the rear exterior.

• Avoid exposure to temperature extremes, direct sunlight, moisture, sand, dust or mechanical shock. Never leave in a car parked in the sun.

• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the unit, remove the batteries and have the unit checked by a qualified personnel before operating it any further.

• In vehicles or buildings, radio reception may be difficult or noisy. Try listening near a window.

• Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, keep personal credit cards using magnetic coding or spring-wound watches away from the unit to prevent possible damage from the magnet.

• To clean the casing, use a soft cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution.

• This product is not designed to be splashresistant, so you should take care to use the unit when raining, snowing or in a watersplash place.

Reemplazo de las pilas

Cuando el sonido se vuelva débil o distorsionado, reemplace las pilas por otras nuevas.

Notas sobre las pilas

• No cargue las pilas.

• No lleve las pilas con monedas ni otros objetos metálicos. Si los terminales positivos y negativos de las pilas se pusiesen accidentalmente en contacto con un objeto metálico, se produciría calor.

• Cuando no vaya a utilizar la unidad durante mucho tiempo, extráigale las pilas para evitar los daños que podría producir el electrólito de las mismas en caso de fugarse.

• No utilice al mismo tiempo pilas de tipos diferentes.

• Cuando tenga que reemplazar las pilas, reemplácelas todas por otras nuevas.

Operación de la radio

En vehículos o edificios, la radiorrecepción puede resultar difícil o ruidosa. Pruebe a escuchar cerca de una ventana.

1 Ponga POWER en "ON".

La alimentación se conectará.

SW: Extienda la antena telescópica y ajuste su

ángulo hasta obtener la mejor recepción.

MW: Gire horizontalmente la unidad hasta obtener la

óptima recepción. La unidad tiene incorporada una antena de barra de ferrita.

Nota

Oriente la antena sujetando la parte inferior de la misma. La antena podrá dañarse cuando:

- la mueva sujetándola por la punta.

- la gire en sentido vertical en relación con la unidad.

- la mueva con fuerza excesiva.

Ponga BAND en SW, MW, o FM.

Sintonice la emisora utilizando

TUNING.

Cuando sintonice una emisora, se encenderá el indicador TUNE.

4 Ajuste el volumen utilizando VOL-

UME.

Para desconectar la alimentación de la radio, ponga POWER en "OFF".

Para mejorar la reproducción

FM: Extienda la antena telescópica y ajuste al

ángulo de la misma hasta obtener la mejor recepción posible.

Para escuchar con un auricular

Toma v

(auricular)

Cuando conecte un auricular (no suministrado) a la toma v no podrá escuchar sonido a través del altavoz.

Fijación de la correa de transporte suministrada (Modelo para Oriente Medio solamente)

Para llevar la unidad, utilice la correa de transporte suministrada.

Pase la correa por debajo de la barra de cada lado de la radio.

Precauciones

• Alimente la unidad solamente con 3 V CC con dos pilas R20 (tamaño D).

• La placa de características en la que se indica la tensión de alimentación, etc., se encuentra en la parte exterior posterior.

• Evite exponer la unidad a temperaturas extremadas, la luz solar directa, la humedad, la arena, el polvo, y los golpes. No la deje nunca en el interior de un automóvil estacionado al sol.

• Si dentro de la unidad cae algún objeto sólido o líquido, extráigale las pilas, y haga que sea revisada por personal cualificado antes de seguir utilizándola.

• En vehículos o edificios, la radiorrecepción puede resultar difícil o ruidosa. Pruebe a escuchar cerca de una ventana.

• Como el altavoz utiliza un imán potente, mantenga las tarjetas de crédito, que utilizan codificación magnética, y los relojes de cuerda alejados de la unidad para evitar los daños que podría causar tal imán.

• Cuando la caja se ensucie, límpiela con un paño ligeramente humedecido en una solución muy diluida de detergente.

• Este producto no ha sido diseñado para ser resistente a las salpicaduras de agua, motivo por el que tendrá que tener cuidado cuando llueva, nieve, ni en lugares en los que haya salpicaduras de agua.
