NOTE: After connecting all Room Speaker Cables, Door Cables, and the Antenna to the identified Terminals on the Printed Circuit Board, secure the ‘Terminal Board’ inside the top of the wall housing as shown above. Be sure to keep the connecting cables in good order, pulled to the left so that they do not interfere with the CD player when the master unit is inserted into the rough housing.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

for Model 563

Part Two: ‘Trim Out’

PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO INSTALLING THIS INTERCOM UNIT

GENERAL INFORMATION

The ‘TRIM OUT’ is the second part of the intercom installation and consists of (1) installing the ROOM SPEAKERS, DOOR

SPEAKER, and (2) installing the MASTER INTERCOM UNIT.

STEP #1, THE ROOM SPEAKERS

Install the ROOM SPEAKERS and SPEAKER CONTROLS FIRST. Do not start with the Master Unit. If the Master Unit is installed first and hooked up electrically the amplifier is operational. If you hook up the speakers when the amplifier is operational you will constantly ‘short out’ the speaker cables as you cut them to length, strip the insulation, and make the terminal connections. These

‘shorts’ can cause the amplifier to fail. Hook up all the speakers FIRST.

The room speakers have color designated screw terminals to connect the four (4) conductor YELLOW, RED, BLACK and GREEN wires of speaker cable Model SSC4-X with a green jacket, or five (5) conductor YELLOW, RED, BLACK, GREEN, and WHITE wires of speaker cable Model SSC5-X with a violet jacket to connect to room speakers that have IR remote control boards. DO

NOT CONNECT the BARE DRAIN WIRE at the speaker. Clip the unused bare drain wire to prevent shorting. After connecting the colored wires use the two screws furnished with the speaker unit to secure the speaker to the wall mounting ring. We repeat—— the bare DRAIN WIRE is not connected at the Speaker.

To install the screen that covers the speaker opening in the grill, place the white cellulose pad against the screen, place the black video filter on top of the white pad, and align the serrated tabs of the screen opposite the slots in the speaker grill. When all tabs are opposite slots, press each tab through the slot to secure it to the screen on the grill. To remove the screen, insert the blade of a pocket size screw driver between the screen and grill indent. Gently pry up the screen lifting it away from the grill. Repeat this lifting procedure around the entire perimeter of the screen. Be careful, if you try to pull the screen off the grill after partially raising the screen you can easily bend the screen out of shape, damaging the appearance.

STEP #2, THE MASTER UNIT and TERMINAL BOARD

Each speaker is on a separate ‘shielded’ cable, type SSC4-X or SSC5-X with four or five color coded wires plus a bare drain wire.

Each colored wire connects to a color designated screw on the TERMINAL BOARD packaged with the Master Unit. Twist

(common) all the bare DRAIN WIRES into one cable. Keep the Drain Wire as short as you can to prevent ‘shorting’ and connect the Drain Cables to any of the Red-Drain Terminals as illustrated on page three.

See the illustration on page three for the designated screw terminals to connect the YELLOW, RED, GREEN, and WHITE wires.

After all wires and antenna are connected to the TERMINAL BOARD with the ‘notch’ in the TB at the rear secure it in the large hole at the top of the wall housing with all speaker cables and antenna above and outside the housing.

STEP #3, CONNECTING THE MASTER UNIT TO THE LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER

Last of all———attach the GREEN ground wire from the terminal board under the GREEN screw on the COVER of the transformer assembly that was previously installed by a qualified electrician. Slip the two YELLOW terminal wires from the Master Unit on the two YELLOW 24 volt terminals of the TRANSFORMER, and the one WHITE terminal wire from the Master Unit on the 12 volt terminal of the TRANSFORMER.

Secure the Master Unit in the wall housing with the two screws furnished, one at each end of the Master Unit. Do not OVER

TIGHTEN the screws; otherwise, you might stress the plastic face panel causing the ‘switch buttons’ to bind or the CD to load incorrectly.

SPECIAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR CD PLAYER

MOUNTING:

The 563 has a close fit into the MH housing. Please use extra care when inserting the master station into the housing so that the CD-R player does not bang against the MH. The master station should be inserted straight into the MH, rather than being rotated up into the housing from its hanging position on the green handy wire. The player does had shock mounts, but it is a good idea to avoid shocks if possible. Connecting cables should be pulled to the left to avoid interfering with the CD palyer.

RESET:

Particularly at installation time or if there is an electrical brownout, it might be necessary to reset the CD-R player and its controller. This can be done easily from the front panel: Push CD and then OFF and wait about five seconds (you should hear the CD-R player cycle to reset); then push the EJECT button. Also, when inserting a CD, be sure to insert it parallel to the speaker screen (not at a large angle) so that the CD will be captured by the CD-R player and loaded correctly. The CD

LED must be on for the CD to play automatically after loading. .

STEREO CEILING SPEAKER:

The speaker in the master is intended for the intercom use only. A dual coil ceiling speaker (or two speakers) must be added for the stereo music. AudioTech recommends using the SD9 8" ceiling speaker with dual tweeters. See diagram on the next page for speaker connection to the terminal board. To test music operation at the master without ceiling speakers, there is an internal test switch in the rear of the master at the bottom behind the MP3 player. When the switch is in the UP position, monaural music will play through the internal master speaker. The master is normally shipped with this switch in the DOWN position for stereo music played through the ceiling speakers (the internal speaker is then used only during intercom operation).

IR REMOTE CONTROLS:

IR remote control boards in room stations are connected at the terminal board using the white wire of SSC5-X cable, which is connnected to the MONO terminal. Also, 455 kHz two-way IR from a Sony CD changer can be connected to the IR board on the master near the speaker.

CD-R CD-RW BLANKS:

The 563 MP3 player can play CD-R and CD-RW recorded CD’s. An MP3-encoded CD can hold up to 255 tracks on one

CD. Some CD-R blanks will not record well on some CD-R burners. The resulting CD-R might not play on the 563 or on most car CD players. If this should occur, we recommend using a different brand of CD-R blank, preferably one recommended by the manufacturer of the CD-R burner.

END OF CD:

The CD Player is programmed to play the CD completely through twice and then automatically stop. END will appear on the display when this occurs. If you want the CD to play again, simply press the CD button.

AUXILIARY CONNECTION:

To wire in an auxiliary input connection, use the AK3 plate and regular AudioTech intercom cable (SSC4-X or SSC5-X). At the AK3, connect red to R + and green to L + . Connect yellow and black to common. Connect shield drain to shield drain of

AK3 but do not connect it at the master unit. At the master unit, cut off the shield to prevent shorting and route the cable through the cut-off corner of the terminal board. Connect the cable to the three-screw blue connector at the top of the master unit (on the right of the radio board). Connect red to the left screw (R + ); connect green to the right screw (L + ); and connect black and yellow to the center screw (common). Do not connect the shield at the master.

Model 563 Terminal Board Wiring

The 563 is wired like the 463 except that black wires are tied to individual terminals
