Quality flush cutters
for use with Control4
Cutting the Lamp Cord
After ensuring the lamp cord is not plugged
into a power source, cut the existing in-line
switch out of the lamp cord.
On the plug side, cut close to the switch.
On the lamp side, cut the cord so that the
Dimmer sits in convenient location for the
Line & Neutral
In jurisdictions where line and neutral
polarity must be observed, the Dimmer
must be installed with correct polarity. The
horizontal position of line (L) and neutral
(N) is marked on the bottom label at both
In North America, for example, the neutral
plug contact has a wide blade and the
neutral wire sheathing is ribbed
Looking from the top towards the lamp, the
neutral connector is on the left side.
Arrange the power cord at both ends
For North American Lamp Cords
Confirm that the Type letters on the
plungers match the Type letter on the
connector (A with A, C with C).

Insert the lamp cord ends into the
connector plugs from the wide flange end.
Allow lamp cord to protrude out the other
end of the plug by about 3/8”.
The compression plungers are marked 1
and 2 respectively. Use the pliers to
compress plunger 1 into the plug first.
Squeeze pliers until the jaws come to rest
flat on the top and bottom surface of the
plug. Do not squeeze so hard as to crush or
deform the plug itself.

before start of Installation
Be sure to unplug the power cord before
installation or de-installation. Unplug
power cord before bulb change.
Install Dimmer only in 2 wire electrical
cords. The Dimmer does not have a
separate ground connection - DO NOT
install in power cords with 3rd ground
Selecting Connector Plug
The Axxess Lamp Dimmer ships with
several connector plugs matched to
common lamp cords.
For North American lamp cords:
Type A for SPT2 lamp cords
Type C for SPT1 lamp cords
Selecting the wrong connector plugs may
result in an unsafe installation. The lamp
cord should fit snugly into the plug
opening; ensure a snug fit before
proceeding with installation.
Compressing Plunger 2
Upon compression, the plunger should
remain arrested in its compressed position.
Next, compress plunger 2. Be careful not to
damage the large flange with the jaws of
the pliers.
The plungers may bounce back a bit after
compression, but should not bounce back
by more than 1/32”. If they do, repeat
Flush Cut Wire Ends
Using good flush cutters, cut the wire ends
protruding from the connector plug.
Preparing To Plug In Connectors
Before plugging the connectors in to the
Lamp Dimmer, ensure that:
After cutting, the wires should not
protrude more than 1/64”.
the plungers are not protruding by
more than 1/32”.
the plungers are facing up, not down.
the 2 connectors are pointed at the
correct end of the Dimmer (check
bottom label).
The cord section leading to the lamp plugs
into the LAMP end and the section leading
to power plug plugs into the POWER end.
Test Connector
Test connection by pulling on the wire.
The plug is designed to withstand at
least 13.5 lbf.
If after testing one side of the flange
sticks out a little further than the other,
press that side in once more, listening
for a click. If the plug can be pulled out
you do not have connection. Repeat
test on the second plug.

The light level indicators should cycle in
response to boot-up.
The light level LEDs will cycle from bottom
to top if the Dimmer is already joined to a
ZigBee Network, or from top to bottom if
the Dimmer is not yet joined.
Dimmer Plus Functions
Dimmer Plus offers the functionality of 4
buttons on the right side of the Dimmer in
addition to the dimmer function on the left.
Plug In Connector
Push the connector plug for the Lamp
end evenly and firmly into the switch
until the outside flange is flush with
the case. Some wires may require a fair
bit of pressure - as you press the plug
into the switch you should hear a click
when each barb catches.
ZigBee Network
The Dimmer follows typical ZigBee
networking behavior.
Network functions are controlled by
tapping in the top half and the bottom half
of the dimmer surface.
With each tap, an adjoining light level LED
will flash to provide feedback. Taps should
be regular sequences of about 2 -3 taps per

Disconnecting the Dimmer Cords (Cont’d)
Always unplug the power cord from the
wall outlet before disconnecting the cords
from the Dimmer.
Insert the Connector Release Tool
(supplied) in the outside ends of the release
slots at a depth of least 1/8”.
These 4 buttons can be programmed in
Composer in the usual way.
For large installations, the button symbols
can be customized at the factory.
Next, squeeze the tweezers toward the
middle in order to compress the barb clips
on the connector plug. You may have to
squeeze close to the tips.
Pull at the wire to dislodge the plug by
