Personal Apple ID
We understand that many people have personal Apple IDs and we do encourage the use of personal
Apple IDs on the teacher iPad. That being said, you should always verify that your district Apple ID is
logged into iTunes on the syncing computer before the purchase of any school related Apps, redemption
of district VPP codes, redemption of district purchased gift cards or syncing of student iPads. It is advised
that personal App purchases and App updates be handled through the App Store on the teacher iPad
itself and not iTunes on your syncing computer.

District Apple ID
Your district Apple ID is your Bloomfield Hills user name with “.ipad@bloomfield.org” added to the end. If
you happen to share your pilot iPads with another teacher, then you both have district Apple IDs and will
have to decide which account will be used for purchasing and managing Apps. Your password will be
provided to you and will be available if you call Help Desk (x4357).
Your district Apple ID and password should NOT be shared with students.
-
Click the Store menu and select the Sign In… option.
-
Type your district Apple ID in the Apple ID field and the password you were provided in the
Password field. Click the Sign In button.
-
It is very important that you not share your district Apple ID
and password with your students as this would allow them to
purchase Apps on your account if/when there is money in the
account from the redemption of a district purchased gift card.

Authorize a Syncing Computer
The first time you log into your district Apple ID on your syncing computer you will need to authorize the
computer to be able to sync Apps you have purchased from the App Store. Your Apple ID can be
authorized on up to 5 computers; one of which is authorized at Information Services. That leaves 4
computers that you can authorize, including your home computer if you want to sync and purchase
school related Apps from home on your teacher iPad. If you happen to share your pilot iPads with
another teacher, then you each should be able to authorize your syncing station at school and home, but
remember to talk about which district Apple ID you will be using.
-
Click the Store menu and select the Authorize This Computer… option.
-
Type your district Apple ID in the Apple ID field and the password you were provided in the
Password field. Click the Authorize button.
-
You will be prompted with a window that lets you know how many computers you have
authorized for your district Apple ID to be used on. Click the OK button.

Register, Setup, and Sync Student iPad
This process will register a student iPad with Apple, sync the Apps you have downloaded to iTunes, and
chose whether you’d like to sync Music, Movies, TV Shows, Books or Photos. At this point in our pilot
program please do not perform a Restore from Backup… on Student iPads as this will rename the iPad
and remove our management software.
-
Plug your student iPad into your syncing computer. If iTunes is not open or does not open by
itself, then open iTunes. You should be prompted with the Welcome to Your New iPad screen.
Click the Continue button.
-
At the iPad Software License Agreement screen select the I have read and agree to the iPad
Software License Agreement checkbox. Click the Continue button.

Organize iPad App Screens, App Folders and the App Dock
You can organize your iPad App screens, App folders and App dock through iTunes or on the iPad
itself. The iPad dock comes standard with Safari, Mail, Photos and Music, but can hold up to 6
Apps. In the following example I have removed Photos and Music from the dock and will be
copying down Evernote and Dropbox while moving some App folders to appear first on the
screen.
-
Select the student iPad from the left menu in the Devices section and then click the Apps tab
from the right window. Drag-and-drop the App icons to organize your App screens and App
dock. Drop one App onto another App to create an App folder.
-
When finished, click the Apply button.
