INSPECTION AND INVENTORY OF THE PRODUCT

Check unit carefully for damage which may have occurred during transport. Each RCS product is carefully inspected at the factory and packed in a special carton for safe transport.

Notify the freight carrier immediately if you observe any damage to the shipping carton or product!

Return: Repack the unit in the carton and await inspection by the carrier’s claim agent. Notify your dealer of the pending freight claim. Returning your unit for service or repairs.

Should your unit require service, contact your dealer.

Please read all safety instructions before operating the

GEQ-2131 A.

1. Installation according to the following guidelines:

• Install the device always on a flat and stable surface.

• The device should not be exposed to damp or wet surroundings. Please keep away from water.

• Please avoid using the device near heat sources, such as radiators or other devices which produce heat.

• To install the GEQ-2131 A in a 19” rack please note that the appliance should be situated, that the location or position does not interfere with an adequate ventilation.

• The device has to be saved of splash and dripping water.

• Never put objects with filled liquid on the device.

• Only instructed qualified personnel can realise the installation, maintenance and preventive maintenance.

• The device is only useable for professional business.

• The safety instruction ist to preserved and must be relay to third person.

WICHTIGE SICHERHEITSHINWEISE

1. Installation nach folgenden Richtlinien:

2. Keep in mind the following when connecting the device:

• Open never the GEQ-2131 A housing, without having to pull the power plug.

• Close the devices t only to 230 V supply and the 24 V

Emergency power (DC).

2. Bitte beachten Sie folgendes, wenn Sie das Gerät anschließen:

• Um Bedienfehler zu vermeiden, lesen Sie bitte zuerst die Anleitung sorgfältig.

• Öffnen Sie niemals das Gehäuse der GEQ-2131 A, ohne vorher den Netzstecker zu ziehen.

• Schließen Sie das Gerät nur an 230 V Netzspannung und an die 24 V Notstromversorgung (DC).

INTRODUCTION

GEQ-2131 A graphic equalizer is a 2 U rack mounting device offering a 31 band equalizer. The 45 mm faders on the front plate can be adjusted with a range switch (+/-6 dB or +/- 12 dB) and engage at the 0 dB position.

Because of its 24 V DC input on the rear panel GEQ-2131A is ideally suited to be used in voice evacuation systems that sport an additional battery based emergency power supply unit.

• Input and output are implemented with symmetrical 3-pin

Phoenix clamps and XLR connectors in parallel.

• LED clipping indicator on the front panel flashes when an input signal reaches 5 dB below clipping.

Filter (80Hz, 12dB/Okt.).

• Durch einen speziellen „Bypass“-Schalter lässt sich das unveränderte Engangssignal mit dem veränderten Ausgangssignal vergleichen.

• Input- und Output-Anschlussmöglichkeit für je einen

3-poligen, symmetrisch aufgebauten Phoenix-Schraubsteckverbinder und je eine XLR Buchse (symmetrisch).

• Frontseitig angebrachte Clip-LED-Anzeige (Peak) leuchtet, wenn das Signal 5dB uner Clipping ansteht.

1. EQ Boost / Cut Control

These 45 mm sliders control the amount of boost or cut applied to the indicated center frequency.

2. Input Gain Control

The position of the Input Gain slider dertermines the overall signal to the circuitry. The „0“ position of each slider indicates the position where no cut or boost occurs. This position (also known as unity gain) is the optimum position.

3. Peak Warning Indicator

This LED illuminates red whenever the corresponding input signal is within 6dB of clipping. During normal operation the Peak Warning Indicator will remain off or only rarely illuminate.

4. Range Switch

The position of this switch determines if the slider controls operate over a ±6dB or a ±12dB range in the boost/cut mode. In the CUT ONLY mode the position of this switch changes the adjustments from -12dB to -24dB. In most cases the ±6dB (-12dB in cut only) range is sufficient. Excessive adjustments may indicate a problem elsewhere in the system that requires attention. The RANGE switch will illuminate when engaged, effectively doubling the normal range of the slider controls.

5. Cut Only Switch

The position of this switch determines whether the corresponding slide controls perform a boost/cut or cut only function. The switch will illuminate when the switch is in the

CUT ONLY mode. In this mode, the „0“ position of the sliders will only attenuate the level as indicated by the red CUT

ONLY graphics. Usually -12dB of attenuation is sufficient.

However the RANGE switch can be employed to provide up to -24dB of attenuation if more than -12dB is needed.

Diese 45 mm Fader dienen zum Anheben oder Absenken der jeweilig ausgewählten Frequenz.

2. Input Gain-Regler

Die Einstellung des Input Gain-Reglers beeinflusst die

Lautstärke des Ausgangssignals. Bei „0“ Stellung des

Schiebereglers tritt weder eine Anhebung noch eine Absenkung des Signals auf. Diese Position (auch Unity Gain genannt) ist die optimale Position.

3. Peak Warning-Anzeige

Diese LED leuchtet rot, wenn das Eingangssignal mehr als 6 dB in den Clipping-Bereich kommt. Während des normalen Betriebs leuchtet die Peak-Warnanzeige nicht oder nur selten.

4. Range-Schalter

Range-Schalter für Frequenz-Faderbereich ±6dB oder

±12dB (Anhebung/Absenkung). Im CUT ONLY Modus ist nur eine Absenkung von -12dB auf -24dB möglich. In den meisten Fällen langt jedoch der ±6dB (-12dB in Cut

Only Modus) Regelbereich aus. Eine übermäßige Anpassung kann zu Problemen an anderrer Stelle im System führen. Der Range-Schalter leuchtet bei Verdoppelung des normalen Regelbereiches.

5. Cut Only Schalter

Dieser Schalter bewirkt, dass die entsprechenden Fader vom Regelbereich „Anheben/Absenken“ auf nur CUT, d. h. „Absenken“ geschaltet werden. Der Schalter leuchtet im CUT-Modus. In diesem Modus wird die „0“ Position der Fader an die oberste Position angepasst. Somit ist der

Schieberegler nur noch als Dämpfungsregler zur Absenkung verwendbar. In der Regel ist eine -12dB Dämpfung ausreichend. Durch zusätzliche Aktivierung des RANGE-

Schalters ist eine Dämpfung um bis zu -24dB möglich.

6. Power-Anzeige

„ON“ / “OFF“ zeigt, ob das Gerät an oder aus ist.

7. High Pass Filter

The position of this switch determines if the 80Hz High

Pass Filter is applied to the signal. The switch will illuminate when the High Pass Filter is engaged. This feature is effective at removing rumble or other low frequency information (below 80Hz) which may be undesirable.

8. Bypass Switch

The position of this switch determines whether the product operates normally or allows the signal to bypass all equalization settings and pass through unaffected. The switch will illuminate when it is in the BYPASS mode. In the event of a loss of power, the product will default to

BYPASS mode allowing the signal to pass.

9. Power Switch

The position of this switch determines whether the power is ON or OFF. In the OFF position the input(s) are hard bypassed to the output(s) to allow the signal to pass through unaffected as it does in BYPASS.

7. High Pass Filter

Dieser Schalter leuchtet, wenn der 80Hz High Pass Filter für das Signal aktiviert ist. Diese Funktion ist bei der Entfernung von Trittschall oder anderer niederfrequenter unerwünschter Signale (unter 80 Hz) anzuwenden.

8. Umschalteinrichtung (Bypass)

Mit dem Bypass-Schalter lässt sich das originale signal mit den aktuell eingestellten Equalizer-Einstellungen vergleichen. Der Schalter leuchtet auf, wenn das unveränderte Original-Signal zu hören ist. Im Falle eines Totalausfalls des GEQ-2131A wird das Signal automatisch in den Bypass-Modus geschaltet.

9. Power-Schalter

Der Schalter zeigt an, ob das Gerät eingeschaltet oder ausgeschaltet ist. In ausgeschalteter Position wird das

Signal ohne Veränderung durch den EQ durchgeschleift.

REAR VIEW

1. AC Connector and Fuse Holder

Connect the supplied standard AC input cable to this input. The fuse holder below the input contains the AC overload protection fuse. If the fuse has blown out, replace it with a fuse of the same type and rating. If the fuse continues to blow, refer servicing to a qualified service technician.

2. DC Input Terminal

This terminal is provided for the connection of 24V DC power source connect a 24V DC battery source to this terminal.

3. Ground Lift Switch

This switch provide connection or disconnection of the equalizer ground to AC „earth“ ground, to prevent noise from ground loops. Under most circumstances, this switch should be set to FRAME position.

4. Balanced XLR Output Connectors

One balanced 3-pin male XLR output connector is provided for channel. This connector is wired to parallel to the corresponding balanced Euroblock output connector.

5. Balanced Euroblock Output Connectors

One balanced female Euroblock output connector is provided for channel. this connector is wired in parallel to the corresponding balanced XLR output connector.

6. Balanced XLR Input Connectors

One balanced 3-pin female XLR input connector is provided for channel. This connector is wired in parallel to the corresponding balanced Euroblock Input connector.

7. Balanced Euroblock Input Connectors

One balanced female Euroblock input connector is provided for channel. This connector is wired in parallel to the corresponding balanced XLR input connector.

RÜCKANSICHT

1. 230 V AC-Buchse mit Sicherungshalter

Schließen Sie das mitgelieferte Standard-AC-Kaltgeräte-

Kabel an diesen Eingang an. Die zugehörige 230 V Sicherung befindet sich auch in diesem Buchsenanschlussgehäuse. Wenn die Sicherung durchgebrannt ist, bitte nur durch eine Sicherung des gleichen Typs und Nennwerts ersetzen. Wenn die Sicherung immer wieder durchbrennt, wenden Sie sich bitte an einen qualifizierten Service-Techniker.

2. DC-Eingang (+24 V DC)

Dieser Anschluss dient zur Vesorung des EQ`s mit 24V

DC. Schließen Sie hier nur eine 24V DC Strom- oder Akkuversorgung an.

3. Ground Lift-Schalter

Dieser Schalter dient zum Entkoppeln des Gerätes um

Masseverschleifungen und Brummschleifen zu vermeiden. In den meisten Fällen sollte dieser Schalter auf

„FRAME“ eingestellt werden.

4. Symmetrischen XLR-Aisgangsanschlüsse

3-poliger symmetrischer XLR-Ausgang. Dieser Anschluss ist parallel zum ebenfalls symmetrischen Euroblock-Ausgang verdrahtet.

5. Symmetrischer Euroblock Ausgangsanschlüsse

Symmetrischer weiblicher Euroblock-Ausgang. Dieser

Anschluss ist parallel zu den entsprechenden symmetrischen XLR-Ausgang angeschlossen.

6. Symmetrischer XLR-Eingangsstecker

3-poliger symmetrsicher XLR-Eingang. Dieser Anschluss ist parallel zu den entsprechenden symmetrischen Euroblock-Eingang angeschlossen.
