Product Description
The MSM500-01 is a digital chime/page module that features
four (4) prioritized microphone inputs and one (1) cabin briefing
input. Multiple digital chime options activated by ground or
+28 Vdc input provide one (1) high-level and two (2) low-level
chime / page outputs. Input and output levels are independently
adjustable.
The “-01” suffix denotes the specific module number. This
unit will produce distinguishable cabin and cockpit chime / paging
functions. These will include public-address announcements and
will inform passengers of ordinance sign activation. All aircraft
microphones are connected to the module.

The relay features 1 amp contacts and may be used to switch
AC or DC loads. Special note Chime relay is not active
during cockpit call (P4, Pin12).
Chime/PA Audio Outputs: Two (2) low level Chime/PA audio
outputs are provided. These may be used to drive high
impedance loads (600-ohms, MINIMUM). One (1) high level
output is available to directly drive a speaker. All Chime/PA
information is internally switched to be output from the main
entertainment audio amplifier section.

Application Notes

Ten adjustable single-turn potentiometers are located on the
top of the module. These potentiometers adjust the chime
output, pilot microphone, co-pilot microphone, observer
microphone, cabin microphone, briefer level, chime/page
level, sidetone level, speaker level, and cockpit level.

The MSM500-01 is capable of processing up to four (4)
prioritized microphone inputs and a prioritized passenger
briefer input. Several types of chime inputs are provided-high
tone chimes, low tone chimes and dual tone chimes. These
chimes may be activated by ground or +28 Vdc inputs. A
high level audio output capable of driving a 8-ohm speaker is
also provided. This is commonly used for a lavatory or galley
speaker.
Chimes: Three (3) two-tone, +28 Vdc activated chime inputs
area available, which are commonly used to indicate
ordinance sign activation. These inputs will generate a twotone chime (high/low) when activated and a single high tone
when +28 Vdc is removed.
All microphone PTT inputs will activate a high tone chime.
PTT inputs are ground activated and will generate a high tone
chime when the PTT ground is removed.
Other single high or low tone chime inputs are available.
Some inputs are ground activated while others are +28 Vdc
activated. The single tone chimes will only generate a tone
when activated; no tone will be generated when the signal is
removed. The cockpit chime input is a single high tone chime
that is ground activated. Two (2) 600-ohm outputs are
provided to connect to the pilot and co-pilot audio panels. A
ground may be applied to the cockpit chime inhibit input to
inhibit this chime.
Input Priorities: Five (5) prioritized audio inputs are provided.
Priority 1 is the top priority and will override all other inputs.
Priority 5 is the lowest priority and will be overridden by any
other input. The priority is as follows: Pilot Mic-priority one,
Co-pilot Mic-priority 2, Observer Mic–priority 3, Cabin
Mic-priority 4, and Briefer-priority 5. Mic excitation is provided
for all the above with the exception of the briefer input.
Chime/PA Key Relay: A two-pole Form C relay is activated
during all chime functions. The relay will close for the
duration of the chime tone(s) or PA announcement. All
contacts of the relay are uncommitted and may be used to

Installation Guidelines

Allow adequate air circulation to prevent the build-up of
internal heat.
Insure that all power, signal, and ground wires shall be 22
AWG, MINIMUM; all other wires shall be 24 AWG, MINIMUM.
All audio lines require twisted, shielded cable with the shields
grounded at the source. Power ground wires shall be
grounded within 12 inches of the unit.
