How to reset Internet Explorer settings
This process will clear out most of the Internet Explorer settings and reset them to defaults. The
bookmarks will stay intact.
1. Start Internet Explorer
2. From the Tools menu (keyboard: Alt-t) select Internet Options (keyboard: o)
3. Note your homepage setting so you can restore it later (highlighted above)
4. In the Internet Options dialog box, select Advanced tab
5. Click the Reset… button in the lower part of the dialog box
6. Put a checkmark in the checkbox named Delete personal settings

Close Internet Explorer
Start Internet Explorer
Select Use recommended security and compatibility settings and click OK button
12. You will see an introductory web page as shown below. Feel free to read up on the features and
usability enhancements of Internet Explorer 9. This is useful knowledge.
13. You may also see the following message at the bottom of your browser window. Select Yes if
you prefer to use Internet Explorer as your default browser. The general consensus among IT
professionals is that Internet Explorer is the worst internet browser available for many reasons,
chiefly standards compliance and security. Unfortunately, some applications such as FIS only
support Internet Explorer. You can choose to use another browser by default, such as Google
Chrome or Mozilla Firefox and use Internet Explorer only for FIS web access. In that case, click
the arrow next to No and select Don’t ask again.
14. From the Tools menu (keyboard: Alt-t) select Internet Options (keyboard: o)
15. You will notice that the home page is now set to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157.
Update the home page setting to http://www.uwindsor.ca, or whatever you noted in step 3, or
whatever you prefer your home page to be from now on. The home page is the page that loads
in Internet Explorer when you first start it.
16. Click the Security tab in the Internet Options dialog box and select Trusted sites zone.
17. Click the Sites button to view sites in the Trusted sites zone:
18. Make sure that you have https://fineweb.uwindsor.ca in this zone. If not, then type it in the
upper input box and click Add button. The settings should match the above image. Click Close
button to close Trusted sites dialog. Click OK to close Internet Options dialog.
19. From the Tools menu (keyboard: Alt-t), select Compatibility view settings (keyboard: b)
20. Make sure that uwindsor.ca is listed in the list of compatibility view sites. If not, then type
uwindsor.ca into the upper input box and click Add button. The settings should match the
above image. Click Close button to close the dialog box.
21. From the Tools menu (keyboard: Alt-t), select Pop-up blocker, Pop-up blocker settings
(keyboard: p p)
22. Make sure that fineweb.uwindsor.ca is listed in the Allowed sites list. If not, enter
fineweb.uwindsor.ca in the upper input box and click the Add button. The settings should
match the above image. Click the Close button to close the dialog box.
23. Optionally, you can enable the menus and toolbars if you prefer to have them displayed at all
times. To do this, right-click an empty area in the title bar, e.g. to the left of the minimize
button (
). You will see a context-sensitive menu where you can re-enable the toolbars.
Enable any or all of the Menu bar, Favorites bar, Command bar, Status bar as you prefer.
