AVSnap Tutorial Part 1

Quick design of an AV system

In this session, you will learn how to put together an AV system quickly. You will need to have the AVSnap v4.0.9 or above to follow the following tutorials.

Step 1: Load the required software

Go to www.avsnap.com, click on Downloads and click on AVSnap and ScreenHunter icons to download the necessary elements. Download the files and install the software on your computer.

Once done, open up both software and start your first project at AVSnap!

Tip: Once ScreenHunter is open, pay attention to what the single hotkey is assigned.

Usually, it is F6.

Step 2: Set up the page format at AVSnap

Double click anywhere on the empty page at AVSnap and the Page Setup form will pop up.

Change the orientation of the page to Landscape. Change other settings if necessary.

Step 2: Find product pictures you need on the Google website image search

Go to www.google.com and select Images category. Type the product name for which you need an image. For example use word “laptop”.

Step 3: Capture product from Google and paste to AVSnap

You can either right mouse click on the image and select “Copy” or use Screen Hunter F6 shortcut. Click on AVSnap design page and press “Ctrl-V” to paste that image. Repeat several times until you have all components on the page. Drag and drop sources on the left side of the page and destinations on the right side.

Tip: when you see at AVSnap, it means that you can use your mouse scroll wheel to make adjustment on the field.

Step 4: Draw System blocks

Select rectangle tool on the left and draw a rectangle in the middle of the page. Click on the color bar on the right side to set fill color, click on weight control on the top format toolbar to adjust line width and click on round control box to round the corners. Double click on the rectangle and type “Matrix switcher”. In the same window, you can adjust font size, text size and font by rolling mouse scroll wheel. Adjust the horizontal alignment to center.

Select rectangle tool to draw switcher outline.

Select colors to fill in rectangle and adjust text and outline colors.

Use mouse scroll wheel to adjust outline line thickness (weight) and rectangle’s round corners.

Double click on the rectangle object to enter text and adjust it’s position on the center of the rectangle.

Step 5: Connect everything with Cables

Press shortcut “C” to select cable or click on the cable tool on the left side. Draw cables from computers to the Matrix Switcher and from Matrix switcher to displays. Select all cables by clicking on each of them while holding shift key. Adjust cable weight and color using tool bars on top and right side.

Select Cable object and draw connections between images and the switcher.

Assign cable color using color bar pane.

Step 6: Add page frame

Click on File -> Add libraries (or press shortcut “A”) and find Pages.alb library under the following folder: /AVSnap/Libraries (version no.)/General/ and open it. Press shortcut “F” to fit page into screen and then double click on “A (US Letter) 8.5x11 With title Blocks” symbol in the library. The symbol will be placed on the page in proper position.

Step 7: Add text and page number

Zoom in to right bottom corner by rolling the mouse scroll wheel anywhere in the page and enter text for page number by using shortcut “T” and type “Page #P# of #PP#”.. The AVSnap will automatically calculate number of pages and display it correctly. #P# will identify the specific page and #PP# for total pages. When done, adjust the text box and move to the desired location.

Step 8: Save the file

Select File -> Save menu and save the created file, or click “Save” icon
