INSTRUCTIONS

Wallmount

175 Luminaire

READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE INSTALLING

WARNING

Risk of electric shock

Turn power off before servicing

see instructions

WARNING

Risk of fire

Use supply wire specified on nameplate

MOST DWELLINGS BUILT BEFORE 1985 HAVE SUPPLY WIRE RATED 60C. CONSULT A QUALIFIED

ELECTRICIAN BEFORE INSTALLING.

GENERAL

This luminaire is designed for outdoor lighting service, and should not be used in areas of limited ventilation, or in high ambient temperature enclosures. Best results will be obtained if installed and maintained according to the following recommendations.

UNPACKING

This luminaire has been properly packed so that no parts should have been damaged during transit.

Inspect to confirm.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION

Unit will fall if not installed properly

Follow installation instructions

The refractor door is made with slide-off hinges, and should be removed during installation and wiring to prevent possible damage and permit better access. Customer wiring enters through the center hole in the rear or through the ‘’ conduit hole located on the top. An easy access wiring compartment behind the reflector is provided for electrical connection. Knockout holes are provided to permit mounting on vertical surfaces with two or four ‘’ bolts (not provided) through the rear of the fixture. You can also attach the luminaire to a suitable surfacemounted outlet box (3'’ or 4'’ octagon or 2x4 rectangular). The unit may be attached to the outlet box (not provided) with two 10-24 screws approximately 3/4'’ long (not provided). An alternate method of mounting the unit over a surface-mounted outlet box is to position the unit over the box and mount on the vertical surface as above with two or four ‘’ bolts (not provided) through the rear of the fixture. A gasket is provided with the unit to be placed on the back of the housing between the luminaire and the mounting surface. If additional sealing is desired, caulk the back of the housing with generic non-hardening sealer (not provided) across the top and down both sides. For access to the mounting knockouts and wiring compartment, remove the reflector by gently pushing downward on the top of the reflector allowing the lip of the reflector to clear the notch in the housing. Rotate the reflector forward and remove. After installation and wiring is complete, replace the reflector by fully inserting the bottom edge of the reflector into the two slotted tabs in the housing. Rotate the reflector back into the housing and gently push downward on the top of the reflector to allow the top edge to engage the notch in the housing.

WIRING

Make all electrical connections in accordance with the National Electrical Code and any applicable local code requirements.

Verify that supply voltage is correct by comparing it to nameplate.

If unit is designated as multivolt or multiwatt, follow specific instruction.

Do not remove insulated connectors from wires not needed for required voltage connection.

Route incoming supply conductors through clips provided and maintain half inch minimum spacing from ballast and reflector.

IF SINGLE VOLTAGE:

All single voltage ballasts are pre-wired such that user need only connect the supply conductors.

IF MULTIVOLT: (120/208/240/277 volts)

Connect the ballast lead with the insulated terminal to the desired voltage terminal as indicated on the ballast terminal nameplate.

IF MULTIWATT:

Multiwatt ballasts are available in various combinations of wattage. See wiring instructions on wiring tag inside the luminaire.

CAUTION

Risk of burn

Allow lamp/fixture to cool before

handling

WARNING

Risk of burn

Do not touch operating luminaire

Use only lamps specified on nameplate. Observe lamp manufacturer’s recommendations and restrictions on lamp operation, particularly ballast type, burning position, etc.

Lamp Tightness – Mogul Base Lamp: The lamp should be securely inserted to the NEMA-EEI specified torque of 35 inch-pounds, which is best achieved by very firmly tightening to insure application of sufficient torque.

Tightening must be sufficient to fully depress and load the center contact of the socket.

Lamp Tightness – Medium Base Lamp: The lamp should be tightened to a light firmness sufficient to depress the center contact.

CHECKING OUT THE SYSTEM

When the luminaire is ready for operation, turn on the power. If there is a photoelectric control, cover the control window with some black tape or other masking. The lamp arc should strike and the lamp should reach full brightness within a few minutes (3-4 minutes for high pressure sodium). Remove the photoelectric control masking, and this should turn the fixture off, if installed during daylight hours.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If the fixture does not operate after installation, reread the instructions and perform the following checks.

1) Is there proper incoming power to the fixture as specified on the nameplate?

2) Is the lamp damaged? Replace with new lamp.

Is lamp seated in socket properly?

3) For models with optional photoelectric control: a. During daylight operation, does the lamp come on when the photoelectric control window is covered?

If not, retest with a known, good lamp. If it still does not light, replace the control device.

b. During daylight operation, does the lamp go out within two minutes after the control window is uncovered? If not replace the control device.

c. After having operated correctly in service does the lamp burn continually all day? If so, replace the control device.

4) With high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, the end of life failure mode is one of cycling. The lamp will come on for a short time and then shut off. The initial on/off period may be as long as an hour or more, but will shorten over time to as little as one minute. Replacement of the lamp will correct the cycling condition.

5) For replacement parts, contact a local authorized General Electric Company lighting systems distributor.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

It will occasionally be necessary to clean the optical parts in order to maintain the light level. Frequency of cleaning will depend on the dirt level in the area and the minimum light level which is acceptable. The reflector should be cleaned with any suitable non-abrasive glass-cleaning solution, soap, or detergent, and rinsed with clean water. The glassware may be cleaned with any conventional glass cleanser.

NOTE: Use of abrasive cleaners will shorten the life of any reflector surface.

LAMPS

The Wallmount 175 is designed for High Pressure Sodium, Mercury and Metal Halide lamps of 175 watts and less depending on the ballast installed.

These instructions do not purport to cover all details or variations in equipment nor to provide for every possible contingency to be met in connection with installation, operation or maintenance.

Should further information be desired or should particular problems arise which are not covered sufficiently for the purchaser’s purposes, the matter should be referred to GE Lighting Solutions.
