Warranty Power Tools

Whilst every effort is made to ensure your complete satisfaction with this tool, occasionally, due to the mass manufacturing techniques, a tool may not live up to our required level of performance and you may need the assistance of our service department.

This product is warranted for a 2-year period for home domestic use from the date of the original purchase.

If found to be defective in materials or workmanship, the tool or the offending faulty component will be repaired or replaced free of charge with another of the same item.

A small freight charge may apply. Proof of purchase is essential. We reserve the right to reject any claim where the purchase cannot be verified.

This warranty does not include damage or defects to the tool caused by or resulting from abuse, accidents, alterations or commercial or business use. It also does not cover any bonus items or included accessories. Only the power tool is covered under this warranty.

With continuing product development, changes may have occurred which render the product received slightly different to that shown in this instruction manual.

General safety instructions

To use this tool properly, you must observe the safety regulations, the assembly instructions and the operating instructions to be found in this Manual. All persons who use and service the machine have to be acquainted with this

Manual and must be informed about its potential hazards.

Children and infirm people must not use this tool. Children should be supervised at all times if they are in the area in which the tool is being used. It is also imperative that you observe the accident prevention regulations in force in your area. The same applies for general rules of occupational health and safety.

WARNING. When using power tools, basic safety precautions should always be taken to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury. Also, please read and heed the advice given in the additional important safety instructions.

1. Keep the work area clean and tidy. Cluttered work areas and benches invite accidents and injury.

2. Consider the environment in which you are working.

Do not use power tools in damp or wet locations. Keep the work area well lit. Do not expose power tools to rain.

Do not use power tools in the presence of flammable liquids or gases.

3. Keep visitors away from the work area.

All visitors and onlookers, especially children and infirm persons, should be kept well away from where you are working. Do not let others in the vicinity make contact with the tool or extension cord.

4. Store tools safely.

When not in use, tools should be locked up out of reach.

5. Do not force the tool.

The tool will do the job better and safer working at the rate for which it was designed.

6. Use the correct tool for the job.

Do not force small tools or attachments to do the job best handled by a heavier duty tool. Never use a tool for a purpose for which it was not intended.

7. Dress correctly.

Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery.

They can be caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-slip footwear are recommended when working outdoors. If you have long hair, wear a protective hair covering.

8. Use safety accessories.

Safety glasses and earmuffs should always be worn. A face or dust mask is also required if the sanding operation creates dust.

9. Do not abuse the power cord. Never pull the cord to disconnect the tool from the power point. Keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.

10. Secure the work piece.

Use clamps or a vice to hold the work piece. It is safer than using your hand and frees both hands to operate the tool.

11. Do not overreach.

Keep your footing secure and balanced at all times.

12. Look after your tools.

Keep tools sharp and clean for better and safer performance. Follow the instructions regarding lubrication and accessory changes. Inspect tool cords periodically and, if damaged, have them repaired by an authorised service facility. Inspect extension cords periodically and replace them if damaged. Keep tool handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease.

13. Disconnect idle tools.

Switch off the power and disconnect the plug from the power point before servicing, when changing accessories and when the tool is not in use.

14. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches.

Check to see that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from the tool before switching on.

15. Avoid unintentional starting.

Always check that the switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the tool to the power supply. Do not carry a plugged in tool with your finger on the switch.

16. Use outdoor rated extension cords.

When a tool is used outdoors, use only extension cords that are intended for outdoor use and are so marked.

17. Stay alert.

Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate a power tool when you are tired.

18. Check for damaged parts.

Before using a tool, check that there are no damaged parts. If a part is slightly damaged, carefully determine if it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, proper mounting and any other conditions that may affect the operation of the tool. A part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorised service facility, unless otherwise indicated in this Instruction

Manual.Defective switches must be replaced by an authorised service facility. Do not use a tool if the switch does not turn the tool on and off correctly.

19. Guard against electric shock.

Prevent body contact with grounded objects such as water pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerator enclosures.

20. Use only approved parts.

When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use an authorised service facility to fit replacement parts.

Additional safety rules for dust extraction systems

Please read before use.

• Do not leave appliance unattended when plugged in.

Unplug from outlet when not in use and before servicing and cleaning.

• To avoid electric shock, do not expose to rain. Store indoors.

• Never use in the presence of explosive liquids, vapours or explosive dust – such as coal or grain.

• Never pick up asbestos or asbestos dust.

• Wood dust and chips in a confined area can give rise to fire or an explosion. Guard against possible ignition sources.

• Do not pick up anything that is burning or smouldering – such as metal grinding dust, cigarette ends, hot coals, matches or similar.

• The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

• Use only manufacturer’s recommended attachments and consumables.

• Never modify the cleaner in any way - this is dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.

• Do not use cleaner without dustbag in place.

• If motor sound becomes higher pitched always check for the following:

- Blocked hose or accessory.

- Blocked filter.

- Full container.

• Never try to move the cleaner by pulling with the mains lead.

• Always check that the filter is clear and not blocked. Keep all openings clear of any blockages.

• When lifting the unit, always lift it with the handle or under rim of bucket. Beware of excess weight.

• Always switch the unit off before changing attachments or connecting different power tools.

• Always disconnect equipment from the appliance when it is not in use.

• This machine is for dry use only and should not be used or stored outdoors in wet conditions.

• This is not a trade tool and is designed for house hold applications and home handy man conditions.

The GMC Dust Extraction System is designed for collecting wood dust generated from cutting and drilling with electric power tools.

It can also be used as a vacuum cleaner for cleaning dust, wood shavings etc. from machines and the floor of the working area.

It is not to be used for the suction of liquids.

Operation

The GMC 8 litre vacuum/dust extraction system comes assembled and ready for use.

The filter must always be in the correct position to reduce the risk of leaks and possible damage to the vacuum.

Ensure that the filter is completely covering the filter cage and that the filter bag clip (6b) is as close to the lid as possible. Ensure there are no gaps between the filter and the lid. It is very important to assemble the filter to the cage without allowing any possible leaks or tears. Any leaks will allow the picked up debris to be blown out of the blower port and back into the surrounding environment.

When using your vacuum to pick up very fine dust, it will be necessary for you to empty the dust drum and clean or replace the filter at more frequent intervals to maintain peak vacuum performance.

Use as a Vacuum

Vacuuming tips

• For crevices, corners etc., use the crevice nozzle (11)

• For upholstered furniture use the upholstery nozzle (13)

• For curtains, lightweight fabrics etc., use the upholstery nozzle (13)

• For frames, bookshelves etc., use the dusting brush (12)

1. Insert the hose into the vacuum port (2) and attach the appropriate nozzle.

2. Unwind the power cord fully and connect it to the power point or an extension lead.

3. To turn the unit on push the ‘on/off’ switch (10) to the ‘I’ position.

4. To turn the unit off push the ‘on/off’ switch to the

‘O’ position.

Use as a dust extraction unit

Your GMC Vacuum can also be used as a dust extraction unit.

Note. Do not use this unit for picking up hazardous dust.

1. Locate the vacuum port (2) on your vacuum.

2. Insert the hose into the vacuum port.

3. Attach the other end on the hose onto the dust extraction port on the power tool.

4. Turn the vacuum on by pushing the ‘on/off’ switch to the

‘I’ position.

Emptying the drum

WARNING. Take care, the tank may be heavier than you think.

1. Switch off the unit and unplug from the power point.

2. Remove the lid (5) of the vacuum by pulling outward on the release clips (3) on each side of the vacuum.

Lift off the lid.

3. Empty the drum contents into an appropriate waste disposal container.

4. Replace the lid, ensuring that both retaining clips are fastened, plug in and continue as before.

Replacing the filter

WARNING. Always ensure that the tool is switched off and the plug is removed from the power point before making any adjustments or maintenance procedures.

Your filter should be cleaned often to maintain peak performance.

1. Squeeze the filter bag clip

(6b) in on itself.

2. Remove the filter bag (6a) from the filter cage.

3. To clean the filter bag (6a), gently brush away small dirt particles that may have stuck to the material.

4. After cleaning check the filter thoroughly for tears or small holes. Do not use a filter with tears or holes in it.

Even a small hole can cause a lot of dust to come out of your vacuum. Replace it immediately.

5. Before installing the filter on the vacuum clean the area of the lid so that the filter bag clip (6b) will seal the bag against the lid and stop small particles from bypassing the filter bag.

6. Squeeze the filter bag clip in on itself and place the replacement filter bag on the filter cage until the open end touches the bottom of the lid.

Note. To avoid damage to the blower wheel and motor, always reinstall the filter before using the vacuum.

Note. Clean the filter in an open area, cleaning should be done outdoors.

WARNING. Do not remove the filter cage. It is fitted to keep the shape of the filter bag during operation.

Storage

Before storing your vac, the dust drum should be emptied and cleaned. The cord should be wrapped around the unit and the hose should be stored in the hose storage section. Accessories should be kept in the same area as the vacuum so they can be readily available. The vacuum should be stored indoors.

Maintenance

WARNING. Always ensure that the tool is switched off and the plug is removed from the power point before making any adjustments or maintenance procedures.

1. Keep the tool’s air vents unclogged and clean at all times.

2. Regularly check to see if any dust or foreign matter has entered the grills near the motor and around the on/off switch. Use a soft brush to remove any accumulated dust. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes whilst cleaning.

3. If the body of the tool needs cleaning, wipe it with a soft damp cloth. A mild detergent can be used but nothing like alcohol, petrol or other cleaning agent.

4. Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts.

Suggested remedy

Clean or replace filter.

Remove hose and clear debris.

Make sure lid is securely attached to dust drum.

Make sure electrical outlet has voltage. (A qualified electrician may need to be contacted).

CAUTION. Water must never come into contact with the tool.

General Inspection

Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. They may vibrate loose over time.

Power cord maintenance

If the supply cord needs replacing, the task must be carried out by the manufacturer, the manufacturer’s agent, or an authorised service centre in order to avoid a safety hazard.
