Remove any labels before using the freezer.
To remove any remaining glue:
1. Rub briskly with thumb to make a ball, then remove.
OR
2. Soak area with dishwashing detergent solution (1 teaspoon detergent in 1 quart warm water] before removing glue as described in step 1.
DO NOT USE rubbing alcohol or flammable or toxic solvents, such as acetone, gasoline, car- bon tetrachlorlde, etc. These can damage the materlal.
NOTE: DO NOT REMOVE the Tech Sheet on inside of compressor compartment door.
Install defrost drain cover...
1. Remove cover from literature package.
2 Check drawing on page 2 for placement.
3. Install cover.

Recommended Grounding Method
A 115 Volt, 60 Hz., AC only 15 or 20 ampere fused and properly grounded electrical supply is required.
It is recommended that a separate circuit serving only this appliance be provided. Use a receptacle which cannot be turned off with a switch or pull chain. Do not use an extension cord.

Using your freezer
Setting the temperature control... Adjusting the temperature

Turn control to higher number for colder temper- atures.
Turn to lower number for less cold temperatures.
Cooling freezer first...
1 Allow freezer to cool 6 to 8 hours before filling with frozen food.
2 Let rt cool overnight before addtng large amount of unfrozen food.
NOTE: When freezer is first started the compressor will run constantly until the cabinet IS cooled. It may take up to 6 to 8 hours or longer, dependrng on room tem- perature and the number of times the freezer lid is opened.
After the cabinet IS cooled the compressor will turn on and off as needed to keep freezer at proper temperature.
The outside of your freezer may feel warm This is normal. The freezer’s desrgn and main function is to remove heat from packages and air space inside the freezer This heat is transferred to the room air, so the outside walls of the freezer mav be warm.

To lock or unlock the freezer you must hold the key rn the lock while turnrng The lock is spring loaded so the key cannot be left in the lock.

Cleaning your freezer
This freezer should be cleaned when frost has built up to about l/ii inch (6 mm] thickness.
Complete defrosting and cleaning should be done at least once a year.
In high humiditv areas, a freezer may need more frequent defrosting
To defrost and clean:
I. Unplug freezer
2 Take out all frozen food and sliding basket
NOTE: Wrap frozen foods and packages In several layers of newspaper and cover with a blanket Food

4 Insert hose adapter provided into drain outlet.
5 Remove rubber stopper from Inside bottom of freezer
6 Place a pan under the drain, or attach a hcse to the threaded end of the adapter and direct water Into a separate drain

Freezing food in your freezer
1. Cut sheet of wrapptng material about one- thtrd longer than dtstance around food to be wrapped. Place wrapping sheet on flat sur- face wtth food In center of sheet
When freezer has cooled to a safe storage temperature, it rnay be loaded wrth frozen food.
When you plan to freeze unfrozen food, see the followrrg chart for the amount to freeze at one tlme.

Loading... Storing frozen food...
After food is frozen, stack packages anywhere in the freezer. Packages should not extend above the cabinet edge or they may keep the lid from closing and sealing properly.
1. Before freezing large quantltles of food, turn
Temperature Control to highest setting and let freezer operate for several hours After load- ing all food items, return Temperature
Control to the usual setting.

The length of time food will stay frozen depends on several factors For Instance: a full freezer will remain cold longer than a freezer partially filled And a freezer full of meat WIII stay cold longer than a freezer frlled with baked goods. Also, if the food still contains rce crystals, it may be safely refrozen, al- though the quality and flavor may be affected Use this food as soon as convenient If the condrtion of the food IS poor or IS rn any way questronable. it IS wise to drspose of it l l l
If freezer stops running:
Check to see rf power cord IS plugged Into the outlet.
Check fuse box or circuit breaker
Check electric company for a power failure
If motor seems to run too long
1. If large amounts of unfrozen food have been put into the freezer, motor will run longer
2. On hot summer days of if room is hot, motor will run longer to provide correct amount of cooling.
If freezer feels warm
During normal operating may feel warm conditions

2. Place 2 Ibs. (0.9 kg) of dry Ice in freezer for every cu ft. of freezer space. This will keep frozen foods for 2 to 4 days. Wear gloves to protect your hands from dry ice burns.
If frost bullds up on the Mm strip around top of cabinet
1. Check the fit of the lid to make sure it is sealing. With the lid closed, press down firmly on the edges or at the center of the lid. This pressure will cause the flexible lid to fit flat against the cabinet and seal.
2. Do not open or close the lid by grasping a corner

During the first year of ownership, the Whirlpool Freezer warranty provides reimbursement as outllned below for food actually spoiled while stored in the freezer as a result of defects in materials or workmanship.
During the second through fifth years of ownership, reimbursement will be made as outlined below for food actually spoiled while stored in the freezer as a result of a FAILURE OFTHE SEALED REFRIGERATION SYSTEM.
Food spoilage losses must be verified by Whirlpool or a Whirlpool Franchised TECH-CARE” service company.
Reimbursement of loss will be based on domestic use and freezer size up to the total cumulative amount shown for the 5 year warranty period.
