Connecting a LuminaPro or Lumina to an Ademco Vista 15P / 20P

Connecting a LuminaPro or Lumina to an Ademco Vista 15P / 20P
Application:
How to connect a Lumina series controller to an Ademco Vista 15P or Vista 20P security panel to
allow for security activated lighting and/or temperature control.
Installation:
1. Equipment:
a) LuminaPro (HAI 20A04-22) or Lumina (HAI 20A04-21) with HLC lighting already installed.
b) Operational Ademco Vista 15P or 20P security panel. Note: Also works with Vista-20PCN,
and Vista-15PCN. Works with Ademco 20SE and Ademco-40 with an additional module.
c) 2 Normally Closed Relays to connect between the Vista 15P / 20P and Lumina.
d) 4-wire cable/connector (Ademco #N4632-4).
e) HAI OmniStat thermostat (optional).
2. Setup:
a) Under “Setup, Names, Units”, name the unit to be used. We will call ours “Hall Light”.
b) Under “Setup, Names, Tstats”, name your thermostat. We will call ours “Downstairs”.
c) Under “Setup, Names, Zones”, name the zones to be used. We will call our zones “Fire
Trigger” and “Away Trigger”.
d) Under “Installer Setup, Zones”, set Use Resistors to NO.
3. Installation:
a) Connect the 4-wire connector (Ademco #N4632-4) to the pin set in the middle of the Vista
15P board. With the zone terminal strips down, pin 1 will be on the left. The connector
should connect across pins 1-5.
b) Connect the one side of the coil of the 1st relay, to the wire connected to pin 3 of the
connector on the Vista 15P and connect the other side of the coil of the 1st relay to the wire
connected to pin 1 of the connector on the Vista 15P.
c) Connect the one side of the coil of the 2nd relay to the wire connected to pin 3 of the
connector on the Vista 15P and connect the other side of the coil of the 2nd relay to the wire
connected to pin 5 of the connector on the Vista 15P.
d) Connect the NC and C terminals of the 1st relay to the zone named “Fire Trigger” on the
Lumina controller. Connect the NO and C terminals of the 2nd relay to the zone named
“Away Trigger”.

Programming:
The following program examples will show how to gain access to security triggered temperature
control, lighting, and emergency lighting. In all of the examples there will be set up on both the
Vista 15P and the Lumina control panel
A) The objective of the following example is to provide emergency path lighting for a fire alarm.
This example only shows how to turn on one light and should be used as a guideline to turn
on all the lights for your emergency path lighting.

Programming on the Vista 15P
1) In order to access the programming mode you must first remove all power from the 15P
and then power it back up. The display on your keypad will say “Busy Standby”. While it
says this, press and simultaneously hold {#} and {*} for 1 second. You will then be
prompted to enter your installer code. Default is [4] [1] [2] [2] [8] [0] [0], once this is
entered press {#] to continue.
2) Next you will be asked which field to go to. Enter [*] [7] [9]. You will then be asked which
output number. For this example our output will be #17. Enter [1] [7] [*], when asked if
output low, enter [0] [*}. When asked to enter another output enter [0] [0] to exit this field.
3) You will then need to enter [#] or [*] to go back to the field selection menu. The next field
to program is [*] [8] [0]. The touchpad will prompt you to enter output function #. For this
example we will use function #1. Enter [0] [1] [*]. Press [*] to proceed through the next
screen. You will now be asked how this output will be activated, for this example we will
be using “Zone Type”. Enter [2] [*]. Next you are asked to enter zone type, for this
example we will be using “Any Fire Alarm”. Enter [3] [9] [*]. Next, you must enter what
type of action the output will perform. Enter [1] [*] for “Closed for 2sec”. Next enter the
zone number, [1] [7] [*]. Press the [*] key to proceed though the next menu then [0] [0] to
quit.
Please note: If you will be programming a 2nd output, please do so by skipping step one of
the next example before exiting programming. Once you have exited programming you will
have to power down the panel and power it back up again to access programming.

Note: This is just a basic example of what the Lumina series systems can do when connected to a
pre-installed security panel. The Ademco 15P has many more output triggers that it can give to the
Lumina in order to completely fit your needs. Please refer to your Vista installation manual for a
complete list. With even the smallest amount of information from the security system, the Lumina
can automate your home to do nearly anything that you wish. If you should have any questions
about the connections, programming or if your specific application is possible, feel free to contact
our technical support at 1-800-229-7256.
