floors, pipes, walls, or other portions of your building or home.
Inspect Before Cutting
Make sure no electrical wiring or plumbing is present
before cutting into a wall to install any accessories.
Wall Conditions
Inspect the walls before installing the Swan
Corporation panels. Never install panels over damp
walls or an existing mold condition.
CAUTION
CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation
which, if not avoided, may result in injury. It may also be
used to alert against unsafe practices.
Use Proper Installation Methods
Follow all instructions related to stud wall construction.
Failure to follow such instructions could cause the

Lifting Hazard
According to the National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health, the recommended maximum safe
lifting weight is 51 pounds, with all lifting conditions perfect—
minimal forward reach, steady load close to the body, straight
back, load between knees and shoulders, and good grips. To
avoid personal injury, always use these proper lifting
techniques and use two people to move cartons weighing
more than 51 lbs. The boxes containing the Swan Corporation
kits can weigh in excess of 80 pounds. Use the appropriate
lifting devices to move the load. Always use two people when
lifting heavy or bulky cartons. DO NOT attempt to lift objects
that are too heavy.
WHEN CARRYING A HEAVY LOAD—GET HELP!
Safety Guidelines
Slipping Hazard
Do not install this product in the presence of water.
Installing this product without drying all surfaces, or in
the presence of water, could cause you to slip and fall due to
wet floors or spilled fluids. Personal injury can result from slips
or falls. Before installation, dry all surfaces, including the floor,
with a cloth or paper towel. Clean up all water or spilled fluids
immediately.
Eye Protection
Be sure to use all personal protective equipment to
ensure your own safety. To avoid eye injury, always
wear protective glasses with side shields when using power
tools. Also, make sure no one else can be injured by flying
particles when using power tools.
Fire Hazard
Personal injury or death can result from a
fire caused by flammable liquids or
silicone sealants. Cleaners or solvents can be highly
explosive, resulting in personal injury or even death, when not
used properly. Clean up any flammable substance
immediately. Sparks or open flames can cause flammable
substances to ignite. DO NOT smoke while working on or
near any flammable substance.
Tripping Hazard
Personal injury can result from tripping over power
cords, tools, or other items. DO NOT leave items
laying around the work area.
Personal Protection
Be sure to use all personal protective
equipment, such as sturdy work boots,
preferably with steel toes, gloves, and hard hat, if necessary,
to ensure your own safety. To prevent possible damage to
your hearing, always wear ear protection, such as earmuffs or
earplugs, when working around power tools.
Solvents Hazard
Follow all manufacturer’s safety instructions for silicone
sealants and denatured alcohol. Alcohol vapors are both
flammable and hazardous to breathe. Silicone vapors may
irritate eyes and nose. Personal injury can result from improperly
handling or use of products, such as denatured alcohol. Always
follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for the safe use of
these products. Ventilate any work area before beginning to
apply silicone sealants, cleaning agents, or solvents.
Cutting Hazard
The installation of the Swan Corporation product may
require using power tools. Keep hands away from the
cutting edge of any tool used in the installation of our product.
Placing fingers in or around the cutting blades could result in
serious personal injury.
Fumes Hazard
The fumes from the silicone and solvents used
by the installer can be harmful if used in an
unventilated room. Always work in a well-ventilated area. To
keep the area well-ventilated, open windows and use exhaust
fans. If adequate ventilation is not achievable or practical, use
respiratory protective equipment.
Sharp Edge Hazard
After cutting the edge of the Swan Corporation panel, it
can be sharp. Wear protective gloves to prevent
personal injury.
Dust Hazard
When cutting or drilling the Swan Corporation
product, use a dust collection method which
prevents dust particles from going into the air. Always work in a
well-ventilated area. Always use an OSHA approved dust mask
when cutting, drilling, or sanding Swan Corporation products.
Room Temperature
Allow the Swan Corporation panels and silicone
sealants to adjust to room temperature for at
least six hours before installation. The panels should be
installed at temperatures not less than 65°F. Panels should
not be installed in areas where the temperature may drop
below freezing 32°F.
Power Tool Hazard
To prevent personal injury or possible death, always
follow the electrical safety recommendations of the
power tool’s manufacturer. Do not use power tools in an unsafe
manner. Power tools should only be connected to a circuit
protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFI).
Grab Bars and Shower Seats
Alcove wall kits are not designed to support grab bars
or bolt-on shower seats. Do not rely on the panels for
grab bar or shower seat support! Attaching grab bars or
shower seats will distort and damage the alcove walls.
Shock Hazard
Never use electric power tools around water,
condensation, or other liquids. Electric shock can
cause severe burns, significant injuries, and even death. If an
extension cord is required, always use an OSHA approved
extension cord. Power cords should only be connected to a
circuit protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFI).
IMPORTANT NOTICE
For bathtub enclosures the side panel nailing flange is
designed to extend beyond the front edge of the bathtub and
will be covered by the finished moisture resistant wallboard.
Electrical Shock Hazard
Contacting live electrical wiring with power tools
or hand tools can cause serious injury or death.
Make sure all related circuit breakers are turned OFF. Test for
live circuits or wiring inside any wall where installation of the
Swan Corporation product requires cutting into a wall.
For shower wall enclosures the side panel nailing flange is
designed to extend beyond the front edge of the shower floor
and will be covered by the finished moisture resistant
wallboard.
Electrocution Hazard
Water and other liquids conduct electric current
and can create a short circuit, resulting in injury
or death. Keep all liquids away from electrical cords and
power tools. DO NOT create a short circuit between a source
of electricity and a liquid by being in contact with both
simultaneously.

SA-38NEO Alcove Corner Shower Wall Kit
If the shower or bathtub is placed over a garage or on an
outside wall, care must be taken to ensure that the shower
or bathtub is properly insulated from cold temperatures.
For corner shower floors
38 inches wide and 38
inches deep. Designed
for use with Swan
Corporation SS-38NEO
Neo-Angle Shower Floor
or other manufacturer’s
shower floor of the same
dimensions.
Preparation Tips
Swan Corporation alcove wall kits are designed to be
fastened directly to wall studs and feature a sturdy
interlocking system for a one piece appearance. The
alcove kits are manufactured to fit a specific size opening
and cannot be cut or modified to fit other dimensions. If the
wall opening is too small, too large, or too short, other
methods will be required to cover the wall.
Note: Other
manufacturer’s shower
floors must have a
nailing/tiling flange
around the sides of the
base.
Turn off the hot and cold water supply.
For remodeling, remove faucet handles, escutcheons, filler
spouts, and/or anything mounted to the wall (i.e. towel bars,
soap dishes, etc.).
One corner panel; One left side panel; One right side panel.
For remodeling, after removal of the old bathtub or shower,
measure the alcove pocket to make sure the new alcove
bathtub or shower wall panels will fit. It may be necessary
to reconstruct one or more of the pocket walls.
Unpack Carton
Use care when opening the box so that you do not damage
the panels.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
This product is shipped to you or your retail center after
careful inspection. After purchasing the kit, carefully unpack
and inspect the product for any shipping damage that may
have occurred. If damage is found, report it immediately to
the store of purchase. After inspection and during installation,
protect the products from construction damage by moving
them to another room or area until ready to install.
All old ceramic tiles, plastic tiles, and deteriorated wall
surfaces must be removed. For remodeling, it is best to strip
the wall to the studs in order to inspect the structure, repair
any existing damage, and install any required supports. Then
the new alcove wall panels can be installed directly to the stud
walls.
Store panels in a flat area to avoid warpage until the time of
installation. Do not store the panels outside of the original
packaging in a vertical position.
For new construction, build a stud pocket wall structure to
the rough opening dimensions included in this manual. Use
wood or structural steel studding, and make sure that all
framing is plumb and square.
Please use the model number located on the side of the
box, or the front of this manual, when contacting us with
questions concerning the installation of this unit.
If installing one or more alcove wall panels over existing
cement board, greenboard, or moisture resistant sheetrock,
make sure the existing wall surface is smooth, plumb, true,
and in good condition. A second layer of greenboard must
be installed to cover the nailing flanges after alcove wall
panel installation.
Make sure the walls are the correct size and are in good
condition. Installation of damaged product will void the
warranty.
Helpful Hints
Read these instructions carefully and familiarize yourself
with the various parts of the kit.
Ensure all plumbing or electrical work inside the walls is
finished prior to installation of the wall panels.
The variety of installations possible for this kit may require
procedures other than those shown. Ensure construction is
correctly sized, plumb, and square.
Refer to the installation manual that came with the bathtub
or shower floor for instructions on installing the bathtub or
shower floor prior to installing the alcove wall kit.
Save the large cardboard box for protection of the shower
floor or bathtub during the installation process and to use as
a template for cutting the wall panels for plumbing outlets.
Always measure the location of the plumbing cutouts, as
stated in the instructions for each specific Swan Corporation
tub wall kit. Make a cardboard template to trial fit all
plumbing cutouts before cutting panels.
Allow sufficient time for the parts in this kit to adjust to room
temperature. We do not recommend installation of this
product at temperatures below 65°F.
Sawhorses with 2 x 4 cross-members or a worktable are
helpful during the installation process.
Always transport the panels vertically. Use care when
laying the panels flat to prevent flexing, especially when
panels have a cutout in them.
Store unused materials away from the work area to prevent
accidental damage.

Bathtub Alcove Installation Procedure
Product Features
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Swan Corporation alcove wall panels easily fit through
existing doorways and can be installed by one person.
For remodeling, upon removal of the old bathtub, measure the
alcove pocket to be sure that the new bathtub and alcove wall
panel kit will fit in the available space. It may be necessary to
reconstruct one or more walls of the alcove.
Made of Veritek™ with no surface coating to chip or crack color runs throughout.
Alcove wall panels are designed to be snapped together
using the sturdy interlocking tabs included on the wall panels.
If the alcove wall kit is to be installed over new or existing
drywall (not recommended), allow for thickness of the drywall
when building or modifying stud pocket walls.
All back and side wall panels feature a nailing flange for
attaching directly to the stud wall.
Moisture resistant sheetrock or greenboard is installed over
the nailing flanges to give a custom finished appearance.
Stud Wall Construction
Followed carefully, these installation instructions will result in an
easy, trouble-free installation of your Swan Corporation product.
Any deviations, additions, and/or deletions from the prescribed
installation, without prior written approval, will void the warranty
covering this product. Not following the directions could also
result in personal injuries, water damage, and other damage to
floors, pipes, walls, and other portions of your building or home.
The key to a

• Completely read and understand this manual and the
appropriate bathtub installation manual prior to beginning
the project.
This manual will give you basic instructions for the
installation of the product in a step-by-step sequence that
will work in most types of installations. If you have an
installation application that is not covered in this manual,
please call your local Swan Corporation distributor or
contact The Swan Corporation directly for additional
information about your application.
• Measure the actual bathtub and alcove wall panels and use
these dimensions to build the stud pocket walls to fit. Up to
a 3/16” gap between the stud wall and the Swanstone
bathtub and/or alcove wall attachment flange is acceptable.
Note: The bottom of the alcove wall panels are designed to fit
INSIDE the attachment flange on the bathtub threshold.
Follow all installation instructions. Failure to follow these
instructions could result in personal injuries, water damage,
or other damage to floors, pipes, walls, or other portions of
your building or home.
A.
Alcove side wall attachment flanges extend out past the front
edge of the bathtub. Make sure to construct the stud pocket
walls so that multiple studs (A) are installed (ganged) at the
front threshold to provide backing for filler boards and the
vertical attachment flange on each alcove side panel.
B.
The alcove wall panels feature a three-dimensional
design. If shower doors will be installed, solid
3/4” thick filler boards (B) MUST be attached to the studs
to fill in the space between the alcove side panels and
front threshold studs prior to panel installation.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
If shower doors will be installed, filler boards, such as
3/4” plywood or 1” x 4” strapping, must be installed on the
stud wall BEFORE side panel installation. These filler boards
are necessary to provide solid backing to prevent deforming
and damage to the side panels. It is good practice to install
the filler boards now in case shower doors would be added at
some later date.
The filler boards must be nailed or screwed to the studs
located at the front edge of the tub. The thickness of the filler
boards should be sized to take up the space between the wall
studs and the backside of the side panel and must extend the
full inside height of the side panel.
Install the Alcove Bathtub Wall Panels
1.
Set the back panel into place on the bathtub ledge. Make
sure the wall tabs located along the bottom edge of the
back panel fit into the molded slots in the bathtub ledge.
The back panel must fit firmly down against the tub ledge.

Note: The bottom of the alcove wall panels are designed to fit
INSIDE the attachment flange on the shower floor threshold.
Preparation
1.
Remove the shower floor and alcove wall kit from the
protective shipping cartons and inspect them for damage.
Check and make sure all the required components are
included in the cartons.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
A.
Alcove side wall attachment flanges extend out past the
front edge of the shower floor. Make sure to construct the
stud pocket walls so that multiple studs are installed
(ganged) at the front threshold to provide backing for filler
boards and the vertical attachment flange on each alcove
side panel.

Install the shower floor in the stud pocket following all
instructions in the appropriate shower floor installation
manual.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
If shower doors will be installed filler boards, such as
3/4” plywood or 1” x 4” strapping, must be installed on the
stud wall BEFORE side panel installation. These filler boards
are necessary to provide solid backing to prevent deforming
and damage to the side panels. It is good practice to install
the filler boards now, in case shower doors would be added at
some later date.
The filler boards must be nailed or screwed to the vertical
studs located at the front edge of the shower. The thickness
of the filler boards should be sized to fill up the space between
the wall studs and the backside of the alcove side panel and
must extend the full inside height of the side panel.

Optional Caulking
Note: Moisture resistant wallboard will be installed over the
alcove panel flanges. For best results, when using galvanized
drywall screws, drill a shallow countersink at each pilot hole to
allow the screw head to fit flush with the surface of the flange.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The Alcove Shower Wall Kit installation is now complete.
DO NOT discard these installation instructions. PLEASE
LEAVE THEM WITH THE HOMEOWNER.
Optional Caulking
The Bathtub and Shower Alcove Systems are designed so that
the use of silicone caulk is not necessary. If desired, as a
precautionary measure, silicone caulking (not included) may be
applied following these guidelines.
Note: The cauking of a shower alcove shown in the following
photos, however the bathtub alcove procedure is the same.
1.
BEFORE side panels are installed, apply a short bead of
color coordinated caulk to the threshold. This caulk bead
should begin approximately 1/2" away from the water
return channel and end approximately 1/4" from the front
of the threshold, as shown.
2.
Apply a second bead of color coordinated caulk to the top
of the first bead. This allows the area where the nailing
flange meets the threshold to be sealed.
3.
Apply a bead of color coordinated caulk in a "box" design,
as shown. This "box" should be sized to the width of the
bottom of the side panel.
ABS-031
2.
Anchor the top and side flanges of a side alcove panel.
Drill a 3/16" pilot hole through the horizontal flange at
each wall stud and every 12 inches through the vertical
flange. Use roofing nails or galvanized drywall screws to
secure the side panels to the studs.
ABS-030
3.
Repeat Step 2 to anchor the flanges of the remaining side
panel.
4.
Install the shower plumbing fixtures and install moisture
resistant wallboard to cover the exposed wall studs,
overlapping and covering the alcove wall flanges.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The Shower Alcove System is designed so that the use of
silicone caulk is not necessary. As a precautionary measure,
if desired, silicone caulking may be applied to alcove panel
seams after installation.
Note: If silicone caulking of seams is desired, refer to the
Optional Caulking section in this manual.

4.
Once the side panel is seated on the threshold, color
coordinated caulk must be forced out beyond the finished
sides of the end panel, as shown.
Care and Cleaning
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Because cleaning products change over time, always check
the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure it is compatible
with fiberglass reinforced polyester. DO NOT use a cleaner if
the label indicates it should not be used on fiberglass
reinforced polyester. DO NOT use spray-on cleaners that
require daily use without immediately rinsing with water to
stop the chemical cleaning reaction because damage will
result and void the warranty.
Day-To-Day Cleanup
5.
Remove the excess color coordinated caulk to give a
finished appearance.
Note: The color coordinated caulk must not interfere with the
water return channel, visible just inside the threshold.
Wash regularly with warm water. Use a soft cloth with a mild
detergent such as Handy Andy, Mr. Clean, Top Job, Tough Act,
Ajax Liquid Cleaner, or Lestoil. Always rinse off cleaners
within five minutes of application. Scratch-free pads made of
nylon, saran, or polyethylene may be used.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
NEVER use abrasive scouring powders, cleansers, or
scouring pads to clean the tub enclosure. They will scratch
and dull the finish. Dry cleaning agents and solvents will
damage the surface. Burning cigarettes will damage and
discolor the finish.
Caulked Joints
Alcove wall panels do not require silicone caulk, but if caulk was
applied, inspect caulked joints monthly for damage or any signs
of separation from the mating surface. Reapply caulking to any
joint showing signs of wear or cracking. Do not apply silicone
caulk into any water return channel, as shown on page 24.
6.
Apply a continuous bead of color coordinated caulk to the
horizontal seam between the shower floor and the side
and back panels. This color coordinated caulk seam must
start approximately 1/4" away from the beginning of the
water return channel, as shown.
Note: Do not cover any water return channels with silicone.
