AKG.CS 2.CONFERENCE SYSTEM
AKG CS 2 - The new Business Class Conference System.
Top-tier decision-makers, corporate presidents or CEOs have
come to appreciate the amenities that go with their offices.
These include the latest notebook computers, the most comfortable limousines, or the wider seats in the business class.
When it comes to conferencing, convenience is a top priority,
too. Here’s where AKG comes in, with the CS 2 Conference
System that provides intelligent technology, smooth operation, and lots of extras included in the standard system. The
CS 2 is fully modular and a range of dedicated components
ensures maximum flexibility in setting up tailor-made systems
that will satisfy every customer’s needs. Components available for the CS 2 include a wide choice of microphone capsules, goosenecks, Microphone Stations, connecting cables in
various lengths, power supplies, and a central Base Station
that make it easy to design a custom setup for every conference application. In fact, the system is so flexible that you
can use a virtually unlimited number of Microphone Stations
and your conference installation will work as smoothly and
reliably with hundreds of talkers as it would with only ten.
What is the secret behind this high level of convenience?
Delegates usually speak into the microphone with varying
loudness, from varying distances, and varying angles. All
these parameters affect intelligibility. The CS 2’s “Voice Zoom”
function uses a combination of signal processors to detect
and optimize the loudest signal arriving at each microphone.
The result is a clear, consistent sound, excellent intelligibility,
and a smoother conference. The “Voice Zoom” function and
two headphone jacks on each Microphone Station allow two
delegates to share one Microphone Station. Benefits include
appreciably reduced system cost, more room on the conference tables, quicker setup and takedown.
The new CS 2 Conference System from AKG is a sound
investment in the future and from the first conference on, delegates will love it for its convenience, sound engineers for its
ease of use, and of course comptrollers for its low operating
cost.
As a buyer or installer you are looking for absolute reliability
and ease of operation. Delegates have a right to expect the
best possible sound and the least possible fatigue from the
sound system. The intelligent CS 2 does its job with utmost
precision so talkers will hear one another, not the sound
system.
Bottom panel dip switches and pots on each Microphone Station
allow many functions to be adjusted individually, including Voice
Activation (threshold and hold time), microphone automute after
the user stops talking, NOM limitation (enabled/disabled), priority
level, Loudspeaker/headphones volume, and compression parameters. This provides maximum flexibility in setting up each
Microphone Station.
The Base Station provides automatic mixing, ease of use, and
smooth operation in day-to-day conferencing, for the benefit of
delegates and organizers. One Base Station controls up to 200
Microphone Stations and an expansion in/out allows more Base
Stations to be added for an almost unlimited number of
Microphone Stations. In addition, the Base Station provides inputs
and outputs for connecting wireless microphones, a PA system,
CD player or VCR, and a tape deck for recording the session.
“Voice Zoom” function
“Voice Activation”
function
The sound quality and intelligibility of a conference system depends on its capability to correctly identify and route all signals arriving at a microphone capsule. The
“Voice Zoom” function compensates for variations in level caused by
1. Variations in loudness due to the talker’s temperament (red arrow);
2. Variations in loudness due to the talker moving closer to or further away from the
microphone (purple arrow);
3. Variations in signal quality due to varying angles of incidence (blue arrow).
without Voice Zoom
Two types of Microphone Stations are available, the Chair Station
with a priority button and the Delegate Station. Each Microphone
Station is available in a desktop version for mobile use or with an
installation frame for permanent flush mounting in a tabletop. To
keep discussions orderly, the number of microphones open at any
time can be limited to between one and five. A selectable “Voice
Activation” function provides ultimate convenience for delegates,
as the microphone will come on as soon as they start talking, with
no need to press a button.
Modular system for custom setups
Dedicated, detachable goosenecks with a rugged, threaded TRS mini jack with gold plated contacts do not only facilitate
Microphone Station storage and installation, but also ensure a firm mechanical joint and excellent electrical contact. The
GN 30 CS (approx. 30 cm/12 in.) and GN 50 CS (approx. 50 cm/20 in.) goosenecks and interchangeable Discreet
Acoustics microphone capsules will provide a perfect solution for every system design.

The “Voice Zoom” function automatically “zooms in” on the voice signal like a
camera and passes the signal through a leveler, limiter, and compressor. The result
of this optimization process is high quality audio with excellent intelligibility and a
consistent volume level.
