NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK WEEK ENDING 5/8/17 PLAYER OF THE WEEK ROB DeANGELIS • Ramapo College Senior • Outfield • Staten Island, NY/Msgr. Farrell DeAngelis becomes the third Roadrunner to earn NJAC Player of the Week honors this season after leading Ramapo to the NJAC championship game for the second straight year. The NJAC Co-Player of the Year went 11-for-19 (.579) in five tournament games, driving in three runs and scoring five times throughout the week. He hit safely in all five tourney games, with three three-hit games. He went 3-for-4 in a win over William Paterson, and 3-for-5 with two RBIs in a win over Rutgers-Newark. He added a hit in Ramapo’s 4-3 10-inning game to advance to the championship final. In the final, he helped stake the Roadrunners to a 5-0 lead behind 3-for-4 hitting with a double, RBI, and two runs scored. He struck out just once in 19 at-bats and drew four walks. DeAngelis leads all NJAC hitters with a .424 average this season; he also leads in hits (70) and on-base percent (.492). PITCHER OF THE WEEK ROB GRILLI • Rowan University Senior • Pitcher • Middletown, NJ/Middletown South Grilli earns Rowan’s second NJAC Pitcher of the Week honor after advancing Rowan to the final day of the tournament with a 4-3 10-inning win over host Kean. The senior rightie tossed the final five innings in relief, allowing just one hit and picking up the win. He struck out three and walked just one. Grilli sports a 3.64 ERA and ranks sixth in the conference in saves (3), fifth in wins (5), and 13th in strikeouts (45). ROOKIE OF THE WEEK THOMAS PERSICHETTI • The College of New Jersey Freshman • Centerfield • Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame Persichetti picks up his second NJAC Rookie of the Week honor after a strong performance to lead TCNJ to the 2017 NJAC Baseball Championship title. He batted 8-for-20 (.400) on the week with five RBIs, five runs scored, four doubles, a triple, and two stolen bases. He recorded a slugging percentage of .700. Persichetti lit up in the opening round win over William Paterson, going 6-for-6 with four RBIs, four runs scored, three doubles, one triple, and a stolen base. He added a double in the Lions’ setback to Rutgers-Newark, and contributed a hit, RBI, and stolen base in the championship comeback win over Ramapo for the Lions’ first title since 2009. Persichetti’s four triples and 12 doubles this season ranks him third in the NJAC in both categories. ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE WEEK MICHAEL WALLEY • The College of New Jersey Freshman • Pitcher • Yardley, PA/Notre Dame Walley earns his second and TCNJ’s fourth straight NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week award after tossing a complete game shutout in the NJAC Baseball Tournament game against Rowan. The Lions blanked the Profs 5-0 behind Walley’s three-hit shutout performance. He struck out five, walked one, and did not allow an extra-base hit in just his sixth appearance and fourth start of the season. He sports a 1.99 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched.
