Café and Bar Manager Job Description
The Motor House is searching for a committed, proactive Manager who would enjoy work in an exciting,
fast-paced environment for the newly opened Showroom Bar & Café in Station North. The Café and Bar
Manager will hire and train bar staff, manage the relationship with the café operator and ensure that patrons are receiving excellent drinks, food, and customer service as part of the overall Motor House arts hub
experience.
The Café and Bar Manager will be focused on operations to manage the bar inventory, hire and train bar
staff, work with the larger events team to plan promotional events, ensure that quality and safety controls
are followed, maintain current licenses and manage vendor contracts, create schedules, and set business
objectives to increase profits and maximize customer satisfaction. A successful candidate should also be
able to work with diverse personalities and diffuse tense situations that may arise in a changing neighborhood.
In order to succeed as a Bar and Café Manager, a successful candidate should be observant and have the
ability to think critically and efficiently with excellent problem solving, observation, and interpersonal skills.
This position reports to the Motor House Managing Director.

Bar/Cafe Manager Responsibilities:
1.
Manage the operations of the bar to include:
a.
Manage the day-to-day relationship with the café manager
b.
Negotiate supplier contracts
c.
Manage inventory, match stock and consumables to invoices, and order supplies
d.
Manage budgets and set goals
e.
Hire and train staff to provide excellent customer service to patrons while managing labor costs
f.
Create effective schedules
g.
Set and enforce quality and portion controls
h.
Follow all cash management, POS reporting and opening and closing responsibilities
i.
Manage the venue in compliance with liquor license and maintain licensing requirements
j.
Meet with Managing Director regularly to plan and review Café/Bar Operations
2.
Manage the vibe and customer experience:
a.
Fine-tune the bar menu and with the café vendor on the food menu
b.
Work with diverse personalities both on the staff and patrons
c.
Diffuse tense situations between patrons or staff members
d.
Prevent possible safety or legal issues
e.
Maintain a fun, safe atmosphere for patrons
3.
Promote the bar and café within the overall arts hub experience
a.
Plan and take part in promotional events related to the bar and food program
b.
Participate in planning team to solicit and promote business through advertising, and devel
oping relationships with local businesses, schools, etc.
c.
Consult with customers to determine objectives and requirements for happy hours and events
d.
Develop and maintain an updated and detailed price sheet of all billable products and ser
vices that accurately reflects today’s costs and the company’s profit objectives
e.
Work with Operations Lead and/or Café to document final arrangements with clients and implement successful events
Bar/Cafe Manager Requirements:
ïMinimum of High School Diploma
ï
Restaurant or management experience
ï
Strong understanding of business management and accounting principles.
ï
Excellent computer, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
ï
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
ï
Ability to diffuse tense situations and resolve conflicts.
ï
Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
ï
Effectively delegate responsibilities and maximize resources.
ï
Ability to walk, stand, and occasionally carry heavy items in bar and art space
