PODIUM AUDIO MIKROSUM USER MANUAL
1. INTRODUCTION
Dear User, Thank you very much for purchasing the summing mixer MIKROSUM. We are
confident that the MIKRSOSUM summing mixer will provide many hours of good mixing with the
warmth that can only provide true analog circuitry.
MIKROSUM 32 is an active summing mixer with balanced inputs and outputs, presented in a 1
unit of a rack height, and a depth of 220mm.
The advantages of the active analog summing, can be summarized as follows:
Better perception of the stereo field, crucial to obtain a coherent mix. An improvement of the
LEFT-RIGHT , and FRONT/REAR perception, facilitating the placement of the instruments in
the stereo field. You can almost "touch" the player will be there ahead!
In that sense, due to the wide bandwidth of the internal audio circuitry, (approx 100kHz) by
analogy this can be compared to a large water pipe, mixes will have "headroom" to spare to
accommodate all groups or " stems " of your mixes. Your mixes will " breathe " or have more
"space around".
L channel 100kHz, R channel 100kHz. If we have 4 "stems", each stem has a bandwidth of
100/4 or 100/5 = 25kHz or 20kHz !!

2. DESCRIPTION
2.1 FRONT PANEL
"BLEND" Potentiometer.
Its level determines the mixing ratio of the processed signal and direct insertion master. Ideal for
parallel compression. To its right, button and green LED indicator.
Output type selector Pushbutton:
Output "LINE DRIVER" electronically balanced output. With green LED indicator.
It is the default output.
Output “TRAFO” transformer balanced output. With green LED indicator.
Select it by pressing the “OUTPUT TYPE” button.
“MIX OUTPUT LEVEL” Potentiometer
Its level determines the output level of the mix and monitor level, therefore the monitor output
level has to be controlled by an external monitor controller unit.

2.7 ABOUT THE POWER BLOCK
This block contains the power supply that supplies the necessary current to operate the unit
with a wide safety margin. The current consumption at full capacity is about 300 milliamperes,
while the power supply is capable of supplying 830 milliamperes.
Power block description:
IEC CONNECTOR .: Receives the current from the outlet socket of your studio. AC 230v 50HZ.
There are three terminals in the power connector: GND (yellow/Green), NEUTRAL (BLUE), and
LIVE (Brown).
IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT EVEN THINK DISCONNECT THE SAFETY EARTH TO SOLVE
THE PROBLEMS OF GROUND LOOPS IN THEIR STUDY. NEVER NEVER NEVER.
The safety earth, serves to connect the unit to ground through the building earth ground, and
protect you from electrocution.
To solve ground loop problems, the best solution is to connect all your equipment to a single
power socket.
FUSE HOLDER .: Contains / fuses that protect the unit from currents that can damage the
audio equipment.
The fuse value is calculated for the power transformer power supply. It is a fast fuse 500ma. 1
to 2 units depending on model. Attached is a spare.

3. ADJUSTMENTS AND CONNECTIONS
To integrate the adder MIKROSUM, in your usual studio setup follow the instructions below:
CONNECTIONS
Connect the XLR outputs to the inputs of your audio interface.
Connect the XLR outputs B to the inputs of the driver monitors.
Connect, if desired, TRS JACK SEND outputs to an input patchbay or an audio processor.
Connect, if desired, TRS JACK RETURN inputs to a patchbay or output of an audio processor.
Connect, if desired, the EXPANSION IN inputs to output any stereo source.
Connect inputs such TASCAM DB25, DB25 TASCAM outputs to your audio interface or DB25
patchbay.
Connect the IEC power cord to the power input on the rear panel.
Connect the IEC power cord to an outlet of your studio.
Verify that both crowns of the front dials indicate 0.
Verify that the "BLEND" switch is in the "OFF" position (OUT)
Turn on the summing mixer. The green switch on the front panel lights on.
LEVELS
Very simple: As the summing amplifier work at unity gain G=1, this means that the output level
is the same as the input level in the summing amplifier.
You simply play your tracks in your DAW, as usual, and with the BUS master level you decide.
Assign different output buses to attack the inputs of the summing mixer, and regulate the
summing mixer output level to have enough signal level at the stereo input, back to your DAW.

From time to time, and after disconnecting the power cord, open the unit MIKROSUM, and
verify that all connections both audio and power between the different modules are firmly in
place. It will give you peace of mind knowing that everything is in order.

MONO JMPR L TO R sums the signal from bus L al R
Differently from other stereo summing mixers, where the Linput is the exclusive monophonic
input, in the MIKROSUM, you can profit both inputs, L & R to route mono signals. (8 mono
signals).
Inputs 25-32 can be used with Mono/stereo signals by simply leaving or pulling the internal
jumpers. By default these inputsare configured as MONO. When summing Left and Right
signals in mono, the signal leve lis reduced by 6db aproximately. Bear this in mind when
adjusting the output level of your DAW mono buses.
