Installation Instructions

ATTENTION!It is the installer’s responsibility to ensure all fasteners (including pre-assembled)
are tightened before operation of the motorcycle. Kuryakyn will not warranty
components lost due to improper installation. Periodic maintenance may be
required
Attention!When routing the wiring harness, be sure to keep the wiring away from any
moving parts. Küryakyn WILL NOT warranty any electrical component that fails
due to pinched, crimped, broken, abraded, or frayed wires.
Tools Suggested
Set of Standard Allen Wrenches and a Wire-Crimping Tool
Procedure
STEP 1 Remove your license plate and existing license plate frame if so equipped.
STEP 2 Remove the four larger Allen screws from the back of the Vertical License Plate
Assembly. Install your license plate and re-assemble the Vertical License Plate Assembly. If
you have a 4” x 7” license plate use the removable inserts. You may need to slightly trim your
plate with tin snips for a perfect fit.
STEP 3 We have provided two Swing Arm Clamps. A clamp for stock swing arms and one
for use with Küryakyn swing arm covers, P/N’s 8102, 8108, 8221, 8222, 8228, 8256, 8284,
8288. Determine which clamp suits your application. Remove the two 1/4-20 Socket Head
Cap Screws holding the clamp halves together; set them aside for now.

Küryakyn warrants that any Küryakyn products sold
hereunder, shall be free of defects in materials and
workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the
date of purchase by the consumer excepting the following provisions:
• Küryakyn shall have no obligation in the event
the customer is unable to provide a receipt showing
the date the customer purchased the product(s).
• The product must be properly installed,
maintained and operated under normal conditions.
• Küryakyn makes no warranty, expressed or
implied, with respect to any gold plated products.
• Küryakyn shall not be liable for any consequential
and incidental damages, including labor and
paint, resulting from failure of a Küryakyn product,
failure to deliver, delay in delivery, delivery in nonconforming condition, or for any breech of contract or
duty between Küryakyn and a customer.
• Küryakyn products are often intended for use
in specific applications. Küryakyn makes no
warranty if a Küryakyn product is used in
applications other than intended.
• Küryakyn electrical products are warranted for one
(1) year from the date of purchase by the consumer.
Components of Küryakyn products containing L.E.D.s
will be warranted for defects in materials and
workmanship for 3 years from the date of purchase.
• Küryakyn makes no warranty of any kind in regard
to other manufacturer’s products distributed by
Küryakyn. Küryakyn will pass on all warranties made
by the manufacturer and where possible, will expedite
the claim on behalf of the customer,
but ultimately, responsibility for disposition of the
warranty claim lies with the manufacturer.

STEP 4 Position the rear half of the clamp on the inside of the swing arm (see PIC.1) secure the front
half to the rear using the 1/4-20 SHCS removed in the previous step.
STEP 5 Attach the Vertical License Plate Assembly to the Swing Arm Clamp using the supplied 5/16”–
18 x 3/4” Socket Head Cap Screw.

Wiring for ‘96-Later Softail
STEP 6 Remove the seat and locate the main wiring harness leading to the rear fender.
The harness should have a black 8-pin Amp connector containing the following wires: brown,
violet, red, blue, orange and three black. All wires from the plate assembly will be connected
to the main wiring harness IN FRONT OF the black Amp connector.
A) Disconnect the negative terminal on your battery.
B) Loosely route the wires from the plate assembly along the swing arm up under your seat.
Be sure the wires will be clear of moving or high temperature parts such as the belt/chain,
wheel, swing arm axis or exhaust.
C) Using the supplied male and female connectors as shown in PIC.2, make the following
connections:
•Black wire from the plate assembly to one of the three black wires in the harness.
•Red wire from the plate assembly to the blue wire in the harness.
•White wire from the plate assembly to the red wire in the harness.
•Use dielectric grease between the male and female connectors.

Wiring for ‘95 and earlier Softail
STEP 6 Remove the seat and locate the main wiring harness leading to the rear fender. Use
a test light or refer to the factory service manual to determine which wires perform the run
and brake function of your taillight.
A) Disconnect the negative terminal on your battery.
B) Loosely route the wires from the plate assembly along the swing arm up under your seat. Be sure the
wires will be clear of moving or high temperature parts such as the belt/chain, wheel, swing arm axis
or exhaust.
C) Using the supplied male and female connectors as shown in PIC.2, make the following connections:
•Black wire from the plate assembly to a confirmed ground.
•Red wire from the plate assembly to the wire in your harness that performs the run function.
•White wire from the plate assembly to wire in your harness that performs the brake function.
•Use dielectric grease between the male and female connectors.
STEP 7 Reconnect your negative battery cable and test for function.
STEP 8 Using the 4” wire ties secure any loose wires away from moving parts.
