Britt, Iowa 50423 | 800-392-5632 Toll Free | www.smidley.com Site Preparation: An 8 to 14 inch tile should be used to form the opening for the water and electrical supply lines. The tile should be positioned deep enough to extend below the frost line. Within the tile, a shut-off valve should be installed for the water line. Fusing is the responsibility of the customer and should be installed upstream of all watering equipment. Fusing should be sized according to the heating element draw and line voltage present. Calculating the proper fuse size is done below: () = () () **Smidley Heaters are 245W, 120V from the Factory** Water Installation: From the shut-off valve, the supplied flexible tube should be used to connect the water line to the hog bar. If the supplied tube is not long enough or if a replacement tube is needed, use a flexible tube with 3/8” x ½ NPT fitting. Electrical Installation: Wiring should be done in accordance with the wiring instructions for the thermostat and heater and in accordance with all applicable National, State, and Local codes. It is our recommendation that all wiring be done by a qualified Electrician. Smidley Mfg., Inc. is not responsible for an incorrect wiring or consequences thereof. STEP 1. Connect the 120V wire (often the “black” wire) from your power supply line to the thermostat wire, labeled “120V”. Use the provided wire nut to secure connection. STEP 2. Connect the other thermostat wire to the heating element wire(s). These wires are taped together at the factory. Use the provided wire nut to secure connection STEP 3. Connect the remaining final heating element wire(s), labeled “Neutral” to the neutral wire (often the “white” wire) from your power supply line. Use the provided wire nut to secure connection. STEP 4. Connect the ground wire (often the”green” wire) from your power supply line to the "GREEN" ground screw. We recommend grounding your circuit using an 8’ ground rod. The heating elements MUST be grounded for protection. STEP 5. Before turning on water, verify all voltages and ground using a digital multimeter. THE HEATING ELEMENTS MUST BE GROUNDED FOR PROTECTION. After all connections have been made and verified, anchor the Hog Bar to the floor. Additional Installation Notes: Do not over tighten the nuts on the lid rod, or you will snap it. To adjust float, loosen thumbscrew, move to correct position and retighten.
