DIVISION OBJECTIVE
The Parks and City Amenity Division incorporates the Open Space Group, Cleansing and Sold Waste Unit,
Fleet and Fabrication Unit, Cleary’s Gates Depot management and the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic
Centre.
These units have responsibility for a wide range of function areas, including: parks and reserves
management; bushland management; open space planning; cleansing and solid waste management; fleet
management; emergency management and the management of the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic
Centre.
The principal purpose of the Division is to provide a high standard of excellence in respect of these
functions, in our approach to customers and in the management of community assets.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Barista’s primary role is efficient and timely preparation of wide range espresso coffees and other
beverages and to assist in the day to day cafe attendant service operations by performing a range of duties
in the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre Kitchen and Café.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Preparation of high quality coffee including exceptional presentation of beverages and maintaining
the highest quality, consistent product standards.
Promote and provide quality customer care at all times.

Undertake regular coffee machine maintenance/cleaning/shutting down.
Provide a food and beverage service to a high standard, ensuring excellent service and
presentation.
Ensure all area specific work instructions, policies and procedures are adhered to and ensure all
tasks are carried out in accordance with the café’s health, hygiene, quality and safety standards.
Maintain the cleanliness of the café including floors, benches, equipment, seating area and displays
and maintain a well presented professional retail area that includes the restocking of shelves and
cleanliness of product.
Provide accurate point of sale and cash handling to assist with financial duties including cash
reconciliation, banking and obtaining change.
Other duties as directed by the Cafe Cook and Customer Service and Events Coordinator.
Work Health and Safety: To take reasonable care that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the
health and safety of yourself or others in the workplace, to comply with any reasonable instructions given
to you by the Council and to comply with the requirements of any and all WHS policies and procedures.
Note: Whilst the key functions and responsibilities for the role are set out above, the Council may direct an
employee to carry out such duties or tasks as are within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and
training.

SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Current Barista certification and experience in a similar environment coupled with demonstrated
excellence in providing high quality beverages.
2. Police Check and Working With Children Check.
3. Knowledge of food preparation, presentation, stock control, ordering and a food handling
Certificate and/or demonstrated experience in food handling safe practices.
4. Commitment to quality customer service with a proven record in a demanding customer service
environment.
5. Experience with Point of Sale systems and cash handling.
6. Ability to develop a friendly, courteous and professional relationship with a range of customers and
stakeholders.
7. Ability to work as a cooperative team member.
