1 Function
1
Function
The XH321 V3 is a 2-socket server node on the Huawei X6000 server that supports four
server nodes in a 2 U chassis. The XH321 V3 adopts innovative design to provide higher
performance and storage density by breaking through power limits, and is easy to manage and
maintain.
The XH321 V3 supports six 2.5-inch SAS hard disk drives (HDDs), SATA HDDs, or NVMe
PCIe SSDs, a maximum of 16 DDR4 dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs), and two PCIe
cards. The XH321 V3 is ideal for data center, cloud computing, big data, and Internet
applications due to high computing performance, large storage space, and flexible interfacing
capability.
The XH321 V3 supports two flexible configurations:

Onboard 2 x GE + 2 x 10GE ports
l
Onboard 2 x GE ports
NOTE
The SATA HDDs connected to the ports provided by the PCH support SoftRaid management. The
supported OSs include Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server
2012 R2, RHEL 6.5, RHEL 7.0, and SLES 11.3.

Installation position
The XH321 V3 nodes are installed in the 2U4 slots of an X6000 chassis. An X6000
chassis can house a maximum of 4 XH321 V3 nodes.

The UID button/indicator helps identify
and locate a server in a rack. You can
turn on or off the UID indicator by
manually pressing the UID button or
remotely running a command on the
iBMC CLI.
l Steady blue: The server node has
been located.
l Off: The server is not being located.
l Blinking: distinguishes the server
node from multiple server nodes that
have also been located.
NOTE
To reset the iBMC, hold down the UID
button for 6 seconds.

Supercapacitor
A supercapacitor is required to protect cache
data from power failures for the
LSISAS3108 RAID controller card chip.

Mainboard
As the most important component of the
XH321 V3, the mainboard integrates basic
components, such as the BIOS chipset,
Platform Controller Hub (PCH) chipset, and
expansion slots, and provides CPU sockets,
DIMM slots, and slots for installing other
components.

RAID controller
card/PCIe card
The XH321 V3 supports the SR130
(LSISAS3008) and SR430C 1 GB/2 GB
(LSISAS3108) to configure RAID for the
XH321 V3 hard disks. The controller cards
support RAID state migration, RAID
configuration memory, self-diagnosis, and
web-based remote configuration.
l The SR130 uses the LSISAS3008 chip
and supports RAID 0, 1, 1E, and 10, but
does not support power-off protection.
l The SR430C uses the LSISAS3108 chip,
supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6, and 60,
provides a supercapacitor to protect
RAID cache data from power failures,
and provides a 1 GB or 2 GB cache.
Standard PCIe cards can be 2 x GE, 4 x GE,
2 x 10GE, and 2 x 10GBase-T.

Logical Structure
Figure 7-1 shows the logic view of the XH321 V3.
l
A CPU & DIMM module supports two Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 or Intel®Xeon®
E5-2600 v4 CPUs and 16 DIMMs.
l
The CPUs interconnect with each other through QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) buses at a
speed of up to 9.6 GT/s.
l
CPUs interconnect with the platform controller hub (PCH) over the Direct Media
Interface Generation 2 (DMI2) bus with a transmission rate of 5 GT/s.
l
CPUs interconnect with standard cards through PCIe slots to provide service ports.
l
The Platform Controller Hub (PCH) is an Intel southbridge chipset that provides external
I/O ports and bus expansion for the server platform.
l
The BMC chipset interconnects with the PCH through PCIe slots and LPC buses to
provide a management port.
l
The RAID controller card connects to the mainboard using a SAS cable and connects to
the backplane using a connector.
l
The BMC integrates components such as video card, video compression, and virtual
media components to provide device management functions, including compute node
power control, slot number obtaining, PSU detection, and KVM over IP.

Balanced Performance
The XH321 V3 provides the following performance features:

Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 and Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v4 CPUs ensure high processing
performance by providing up to 22 cores, 3.5 GHz dominant frequency, 55 MB L3
cache, and two 9.6 GT/s QPI links between CPUs.
l
Each XH321 V3 supports two CPUs, 44 cores, and 88 threads, which maximize the
concurrent execution of multithreaded applications.
l
1.2 V DDR4 DIMMs consume 20% less power than 1.35 V DDR3L DIMMs supported
by the previous-generation platform.
l

Availability and Serviceability
The XH321 V3 provides the following features to improve availability and serviceability:

The XH321 V3 uses carrier-class components and follows the engineering process,
which dramatically improves system reliability.
l
Each XH321 V3 provides six 2.5-inch hot-swappable hard disks, supports RAID 0, 1,
1E, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60. The supported RAID level varies according to the RAID
controller card. It offers a RAID cache and provides a supercapacitor for power-off
protection.
l
The UID and HLY indicators on the front panel and mounting ears, and the iBMC
WebUI help technical support personnel learn the status of key components and
promptly locate failed (or failing) components. This simplifies maintenance, accelerates
troubleshooting, and improves system availability.
l
SSDs offer better reliability than HDDs, which extends system uptime.
l
The Huawei integrated iBMC module monitors system parameters in real time, triggers
alarms, and performs recovery actions in case of failures. This helps minimize system
downtime.
l
For the products with three-year warranty used in China, Huawei provides customer
replaceable units and onsite limited warranty 9 x 5 next business day. Optional service
upgrades are available.
l
Huawei provides a three-year warranty for parts replacement and repair for the XH321
V3 used outside China. Huawei provides a 9-hour-a-day, 5-day-a-week support program.
Service requests will be handled the next business day. Huawei delivers the repaired or
new parts within 45 calendar days after receiving the defective parts.

increases setup, configuration, and update efficiency, and simplifies fault handling.
l
The optional trusted platform module (TPM) 1.2/2.0 provides advanced encryption
functions, such as digital signatures and remote authentication.
l
Intel® Advanced Encryption Standard–New Instructions (AES NI) supports faster and
stronger encryption.
l
Intel® Execute Disable Bit (EDB) prevents certain types of malicious buffer overflow
attacks when working with a supported OS.
l
The Network Controller Sideband Interface (NC-SI) feature allows a network port to
provide functions of both a management network port and a service port, which

NC-SI can be enabled or disabled through iBMC or the BIOS. NC-SI is disabled by

The service network port supporting NC-SI has the following features:
l The service network port can be bound to the network port (NIC Mezz) on the onboard NIC of the server.
The network port on the onboard NIC is 1 by default.
l The service network port allows you to enable, disable, and configure a virtual local area network
(VLAN) ID. A VLAN ID is disabled by default, and the default VLAN ID is 0.
l The service network port supports IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. You can set an IP address, subnet mask,
default gateway, and IPv6 address prefix length for the service network port.
Energy Efficiency
The XH321 V3 provides the following features to reduce energy consumption:
l
The Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3/V4 series processors provide higher performance than the
previous-generation processors while supporting the same TDP.
l
The XH321 V3 supports 80 Plus Platinum power supply units (PSUs). The PSUs
provide 96% power efficiency at 50% loads.
l
The efficient voltage regulator down (VRD) PSUs reduce the loss in DC/DC power
conversion.
l
The Intel® Intelligent Power Capability allows a single CPU to be powered on or off
based on site requirements.
l
Low-voltage Intel® Xeon processors consume less energy and apply to the data center
and telecommunication environments that have power and thermal limitations.
l
Hard disks are not powered on simultaneously, which reduces the server startup power
consumption.
l
1.2 V DDR4 RDIMMs consume 20% less energy than 1.5 V DDR3 RDIMMs.
l
SSDs consume 80% less power than HDDs.
l
The XH321 V3 supports intelligent CPU frequency adjustment for energy conservation
and consumption reduction.
l
The XH321 V3 panel has hexagonal ventilation holes to enable higher ventilation
density than round holes, remarkably increasing system cooling efficiency.

The XH321 V3 supports a maximum of eight DIMMs when one processor is installed and
supports a maximum of 16 DIMMs when two processors are installed. Each processor has
four memory channels.
Observe the following rules when configuring DIMMs:
1.
The XH321 V2 does not support mixed use of different types of DIMMs. Use either
RDIMMs or LRDIMMs.
2.
Each channel supports a maximum of eight ranks.
NOTE
A channel supports more than eight ranks for LRDIMMs. The number of ranks for LDIMMs must be
calculated based on the number of ranks presented to external interfaces. All the DIMM codes in the
compatibility list support full memory channel configuration.
3.
All DIMMs in a server operate at the same speed, whichever of the following is the
lowest:
l
Memory speed supported by a specified CPU
l
Memory speed supported by a specified DIMM
l
The maximum operating speed of specific DIMMs. See the Maximum Operating Speed
in Table 10-1.

Memory Slot Configuration Rules

The XH321 V3 supports DIMMs of 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB. When the
XH321 V2 is fully configured with DIMMs, the maximum memory capacity is 1 TB.
l
Each XH321 V3 provides 16 DDR4 DIMM slots and eight memory channels. Each CPU
integrates four memory channels. The four memory channels for CPU 1 are 1A, 1B, 1C,
and 1D, and those for CPU 2 are 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D. Table 10-3 lists memory channels
for each CPU. Figure 2 shows the positions for installing DIMMs.

management system designed to remotely manage servers. It complies with the Intelligent
Platform Management Interface (IPMI) V2.0 standards and provides reliable hardware

According to the Huawei Warranty Policy for Servers & Storage Products (Warranty Policy
for short), the XH321 V3 has a three-year warranty, the DVD-ROM drive and iBBU have a
one-year warranty, and the software media have a three-month warranty.
