Product Specifications 5.1 Capacity The Novachips SSD Express 570 series is set to report the number of logical block addresses (LBA) that will ensure sufficient storage space for the specified capacity. Standard LBA settings, based on the IDEMA standard (LBA1-02), are shown below. Table 4. Drive Capacity Total LBA User Available Bytes Drive Size Decimal Hexa (Unformatted) 500GB 976,773,168 3A386000 500,107,837,440 1TB 1,953,525,168 74706D80 1,000,204,861,440 NOTES: 1. 1GB = 1,000,000,000 Bytes; 1 sector = 512 Bytes. 2. LBA count shown represents total user storage capacity and will remain the same throughout the life of the drive. 3. The total usable capacity of the SSD may be less than the total physical capacity because a small portion of the capacity is used for NAND flash management and maintenance purposes. 5.2 Performance Measured performance can vary for a number of reasons. The major factors affecting drive performance are the capacity of the drive and the interface of the host. Additionally, overall system performance can affect the measured drive performance. When comparing drives, it is recommended that all system variables are the same, and only the drive being tested varies. Performance numbers will vary depending on the host system configuration. Table 5. Performance measured using Iometer* with Queue Depth 32 and write cache enabled. Measurements are performed on a full Logical Block Address (LBA) span of drive. 2. 4KB transfers are used to measure READ/WRITE latency values with write cache enabled. 3. Power On To Ready time measured from de-assertion of PCIe reset to first interface response. Exception handling like unsafe power shutdown will not be part of this specification. For unsafe shutdown, the time to ready can be up to 10 seconds (TYP). Novachips Co., Ltd. 10 Novachips Solid-State Drive Express 570 Series 5.3 Electrical Characteristics Table 6. Operating Voltage Parameter/Condition Allowable voltage Allowable noise/ripple Specification Unit 3.3 V ±5 % V 100 mV p-p or less Allowable supply rise time 2 –100 ms NOTES: 1. Fall time needs to be equal or better than minimum in order to guarantee full functionality of enhanced power loss management. 2. The drive must be powered off for at least 500msec before powering on. 3. Measured during initial power supply application. Typically this will be seen within 2 seconds of initial power up. Table 7. Power Consumption Capacity 500GB 1000GB Unit 1 7,000 12,000 mW 2 6,000 8,000 mW 1,500 1,500 mW Active Write (Avg.) Active Read (Avg.) Idle NOTES: 1. The workload equates 128KB (131,072 bytes) Queue Depth equal to 128 sequential writes. Average power is measured using scope trigger over a 100 ms sample period. 2. The workload equates 128KB (131,072 bytes) Queue Depth equal to 128 sequential reads 5.4 Environmental Conditions Environmental conditions beyond those listed may cause permanent damage to the device. This is a stress rating only, and functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions above those indicated in the operational sections of this specification is not implied. Exposure to absolute maximum rating conditions for extended periods may affect reliability. Table 8. Environmental Conditions Parameter/Condition Symbol Min. Max. Unit TC -45 85 C Non-operating Temperature -55 95 C Rate of Temperature Change - 30 C/Hr Relative Humidity (Non-condensing) 5 95 % Operating Shock - 1000G / 0.5ms Non-operating Shock - 1000G / 0.5ms Operating Vibration - 2.17 GRMS (5~700Hz) Non-operating Vibration - 3.13 GRMS (5~800Hz) Operating Temperature NOTES: 1. Temperature is best measured with a thermocouple attached to the center point of the exterior of the case on the cast side (side where the connector is visible). Contact with the drive label is acceptable. Temperature at the PCB level is recorded in SMART attribute 194 (or 0xC2), and may differ from case temperature. 2. Shock specifications assume the SSD is mounted securely with the input vibration applied to the drive-mounting screws. Stimulus may be applied in the X, Y or Z axis. Shock specification is measured using Root Mean Squared (RMS) value. 3. Vibration specifications assume the SSD is mounted securely with the input vibration applied to the drive-mounting screws. Stimulus may be applied in the X, Y or Z axis. Vibration specification is measured using RMS value. Novachips Co., Ltd. 11 Novachips Solid-State Drive Express 570 Series 5.5 Reliability Novachips SSD Express 570 series meets or exceeds SSD endurance and data retention requirements as specified in the JESD218 standard. Novachips SSD Express 570 series incorporates advanced technology for defect and error management. They use various combinations of hardware-based error correction algorithms and firmware-based static and dynamic wear-leveling algorithms. Over the life of the SSD, uncorrectable errors may occur. An uncorrectable error is defined as data that is reported as successfully programmed to the SSD but when it is read out of the SSD, the data differs from what was programmed. Reliability specifications are listed in Table 9. Table 9. Reliability Specifications Parameters Value Uncorrectable Bit Error Rate (UBER) 1 Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) Power On/Off Cycles Data Retention 3 2 1,500,000 hours 24 per day 12 months power-off retention once SSD reaches rated write endurance at 30 °C 4 Endurance Rating & Warranty 15 < 1 sector per 10 bits read 6 1,250TBW (500GB), 2,500TBW (1000GB) for 5 years NOTES: 1. Uncorrectable bit error rate will not exceed one sector in the specified number of bits read. In the unlikely event of a non-recoverable read error, the SSD will report it as a read failure to the host; the sector in error is considered corrupt and is not returned to the host. 2. Mean Time Between Failures is estimated based on JEDEC-218/219 standard methodology. 3. Power On/Off Cycles is defined as power being removed from the SSD, and then restored. Most host systems remove power from the SSD when entering suspend and hibernate as well as on a system shutdown. 4. The time period for retaining data in the NAND flash memory at maximum rated endurance. 5. Based on JESD218 standard with 4KB random write workload. 5.6 Temperature Sensor Novachips SSD Express 570 series has an internal temperature sensor with an accuracy of +/-2° C over a range of -10° C to +85°C which can be monitored using NVMe Health Log. For more information on sensor reading see SMART attributes section. In addition, drive will provide out of band access to temperature by means of SMBUS. The sensor has an accuracy of +/- 3° C over a range of -20° C to 125° C. SMBUS temperature sensor will not be reported in NVMe Health Log.
