Overview
This document describes the specifications and capabilities of the Novachips Express 570 series.
Novachips Express 570 series HyperLink SSD (HLSSD) delivers leading performance and Quality of Service
combined with world-class reliability and endurance for PCIe-based storage systems in capacities: 500GB, and 1TB.
Novachips Express 570 series HLSSD uses a single-chip controller with a PCIe interface on the host side and 8
HLNAND channels on the Flash side. Packaged in an industry standard 2.5-inch enclosure, the Novachips Express
570 series HLSSD integrates easily in existing storage infrastructures.
By combining HLNAND Flash Memory technology with PCIe Gen2 x4 lanes interface support, the Novachips
Express 570 series HLSSD delivers sequential read / write speeds of up to 1,200 MB/s with its ability to support up
to 256 outstanding commands while ensuring full end-to-end data protection.
The Novachips Express 570 series HLSSD is designed to use the PCIe interface efficiently during both READs and
WRITEs while delivering bandwidth-focused performance. HLSSD technology enables enhanced boot times, faster
application load times, reduced power consumption and extended reliability.

The Novachips SSD Express 570 series is set to report the number of logical block addresses (LBA) that will ensure
sufficient storage space for the specified capacity. Standard LBA settings, based on the IDEMA standard (LBA1-02),

3. The total usable capacity of the SSD may be less than the total physical capacity because a small portion of the capacity is used for NAND

Performance
Measured performance can vary for a number of reasons. The major factors affecting drive performance are the
capacity of the drive and the interface of the host. Additionally, overall system performance can affect the
measured drive performance. When comparing drives, it is recommended that all system variables are the same,
and only the drive being tested varies. Performance numbers will vary depending on the host system configuration.

Reliability
Novachips SSD Express 570 series meets or exceeds SSD endurance and data retention requirements as specified in
the JESD218 standard. Novachips SSD Express 570 series incorporates advanced technology for defect and error
management. They use various combinations of hardware-based error correction algorithms and firmware-based
static and dynamic wear-leveling algorithms. Over the life of the SSD, uncorrectable errors may occur. An
uncorrectable error is defined as data that is reported as successfully programmed to the SSD but when it is read
out of the SSD, the data differs from what was programmed. Reliability specifications are listed in Table 9.

1. Uncorrectable bit error rate will not exceed one sector in the specified number of bits read. In the unlikely event of a non-recoverable
read error, the SSD will report it as a read failure to the host; the sector in error is considered corrupt and is not returned to the host.

Temperature Sensor
Novachips SSD Express 570 series has an internal temperature sensor with an accuracy of +/-2° C over a range of -10° C to
+85°C which can be monitored using NVMe Health Log.
For more information on sensor reading see SMART attributes section. In addition, drive will provide out of band access to
temperature by means of SMBUS. The sensor has an accuracy of +/- 3° C over a range of -20° C to 125° C. SMBUS
temperature sensor will not be reported in NVMe Health Log.

Critical Warning:
Bit 0: Available spare space has fallen below the threshold
Bit 1: Temperature has exceeded a critical threshold
Bit 2: Reliability is degraded due to excessive media or internal errors
Bit 3: Media is placed in Read- Only Mode
Bit 4: Volatile Memory Backup System has failed (e.g., enhanced power loss capacitor
test failure)
Bits 5-7: Reserved
Temperature: Overall Device current temperature in Kelvin.
Available Spare: Contains a normalized percentage (0 to 100%) of the remaining
spare capacity available.
Available Spare Threshold: When the Available Spare falls below the threshold
indicated in this field, an asynchronous event completion may occur. The value is
indicated as a normalized percentage (0 to 100%).
Percentage Used Estimate (Value allowed to exceed 100%)

Data Units Read: Contains the number of 512 byte data units the host has read from
the controller; this value does not include metadata. This value is reported in
thousands (i.e., a value of 1 corresponds to 1000 units of 512 bytes read) and is
rounded up. When the LBA size is a value other than 512 bytes, the controller shall
convert the amount of data read to 512 byte units.
For the NVM command set, logical blocks read as part of Compare and Read
operations shall be included in this value.
Data Units Written: Contains the number of 512 byte data units the host has written
to the controller; this value does not include metadata. This value is reported in
thousands (i.e., a value of 1 corresponds to 1000 units of 512 bytes written) and is
rounded up. When the LBA size is a value other than 512 bytes, the controller shall
convert the amount of data written to 512 byte units.
For the NVM command set, logical blocks written as part of Write operations shall be
included in this value. Write Uncorrectable commands shall not impact this value.
Host Read Commands: Contains the number of read commands completed by the
controller. For the NVM command set, this is the number of Compare and Read
commands.
Host Write Commands: Contains the number of write commands completed by the
controller. For the NVM command set, this is the number of Write commands.
Controller Busy Time: Contains the amount of time the controller is busy with I/O
commands. The controller is busy when there is a command outstanding to an I/O
Queue (specifically, a command was issued via an I/O Submission Queue Tail doorbell
write and the corresponding completion queue entry has not been posted yet to the
associated I/O Completion Queue). This value is reported in minutes.
Power Cycles: Contains the number of power cycles.
Power On Hours: Contains the number of power-on hours. This does not include
time that the controller was powered and in a low power state condition.

Attribute Description
Unsafe Shutdowns: Contains the number of unsafe shutdowns. This count is
incremented when a shutdown notification (CC.SHN) is not received prior to loss of
power.
Media Errors: Contains the number of occurrences where the controller detected an
unrecovered data integrity error. Errors such as uncorrectable ECC, CRC checksum
failure, or LBA tag mismatch are included in this field.
Number of Error Information Log Entries: Contains the number of Error Information
log entries over the life of the controller.
