The cards use intelligent caching algorithms to help identify application “hot spots”, frequently
accessed data, and promote it to fast on-board flash. Nytro MegaRAID cards are low profile,
MD2 form factor, PCIe® 3.0 compliant, with support for 6Gb/s SAS or SATA devices.
DAS acceleration evolved, the Nytro MegaRAID cards can be more cost effective than direct
attached solid state drive (SSD)-only arrays or over-provisioned direct attached hard disk drive
(HDD) environments.
Easy To Use with Transparent Access to Applications
Not all SSD implementations work at enterprise levels. Performance may suddenly drop after only
several hours of use, the so-called “write cliff”. The Nytro MegaRAID family of cards is designed
to provide sustainable performance by using their own on-board flash storage, managed by LSI
SandForce® flash processors to provide enterprise-grade performance and reliability and offer more
consistent latency performance than SAS-based SSDs.
Response Time Improvement
In the LSI lab we compared two identical databases, each 140GB, each running on its
own server with an identical set of HDDs. Both databases were driven by identical online
transaction processing (OLTP) workloads of 250 users. The Nytro MegaRAID card’s caching on
flash storage yielded a 47x faster response.
