Head Coach Update
A Big Thank You
As you are aware Ali Webber our Team Manager
has had to step down this season due to her
personal commitments.
Ali has been the Team Manager throughout all the
age groups and has been pivotal in creating the
environment and organisation that has allowed us
to be so successful. Her commitment, enthusiasm
and dedication will be sorely missed.
She has been a great support to me taking on all
the necessary work outside the coaching sphere
that is integral to running the age group.
We wish her and her family well in this difficult
time. We look forward to seeing her on the side
lines cheering us on without the team manager
responsibilities! THANK YOU ALI
D&W League Two Champions 2013/14
We will be continuing the Friday evenings
sessions once the season starts to enable
those that can to train and improve both
fitness and skills.
We appreciate that Friday evenings is not
ideal for everyone, but the club could only
accommodate us on either Mondays or
Fridays! Once we expand the ruby playing
pitches we may be able to change to another
evening, however lights would still be an
issue.
Our coaching philosophy remains the same,
introducing as many children to the game
allowing them time and space to develop at
their pace.
We will endeavour to provide game time to
aid development and enjoyment but we will
select the strongest team for cup matches.
The Season Ahead
This season sees us move to the U14 age group,
after a successful season at U13 level when we
won the Division 2 Championship. U14 is not as
big a step up as last season, however the
challenges for the squad in furthering their rugby
knowledge and game management remain.
The summer training started with fitness training
with the U15s and has now progressed to rugby
related skills and fitness focus. We will continue
with Sunday morning sessions moving into the
season.
We have decided to pick squads for friendlies
as well as cup games to try to ensure equal
game time for all this season. We will also
record game team per player to ensure equal
time on the pitch over the season.
Our goal remains to introduce children to a
sport they can enjoy and be involved in
throughout their lifetime and generate a love
for the sport and its ethos.
The fixture list has been compiled with both
cup and friendly matches being arranged – see
website for details.
Player Selection
The Team
The criteria below are those we will use in
selecting our squads for matches. Please note
that for most matches we will not be able to select
all our players so it is essential that coaches are
informed on availability.
Coaches: I am pleased the coaching team
remains the same with two level 2, two level 1
and rugby ready coaches in Dave, Nigel, Keith,
Andy and myself.
Team Manager: Michele Pocock has stepped
forward as Team Manager and we welcome and
thank her. Michelle will be concentrating on the
administration and facilitating others to carry out
limited and defined roles.
Treasurer: We need a treasurer please! The
role consists of collecting the subs from Simon
and liaising with the two newly appointed
treasurers for the Junior Section to get the
money into the club account and maintain our
age group financial control (accounts, make
payments, etc). This will not take too much time
I promise!
 Performance, fitness and training
attendance
We accept that some of the boys may not
be able to attend some sessions due to
other commitments, however fitness is an
individual’s responsibility and whilst our
sessions will aid this it will be expected that
a minimum fitness level is attained and
maintained.
First Aiders: Sue will be stepping down as firstaider this season due to other commitments, so
we require another volunteer(s) to share this key
role with Justin.
Child Welfare Officer: Jacquie has kindly
volunteered to pick up this role, ensuring child
protection regulations are followed and your
children’s welfare protected.
 Squad (usually) limited to 22-24 players
Parents will be informed of squad selection by
Wednesday evening.
Fixtures will include:
 Dorset & Wilts Cup matches
 Targeted “competitive” friendlies
 Development matches
U14s Kangaroo Court, Tenby Tour 2014 Tour Manager: Keith and Dave will be
organising the destination and itinerary,
however help is required for accommodation,
money collection, payments etc. A limited role,
but crucial to enabling a successful tour.
Kitchen Crew: We will continue to be fed and
watered post-match by Lisa, Sue and Jacquie.
Additional help is always welcomed!
Statistician: “Stato” has agreed to continue
recording attendance, teams, points, wins etc.
thank goodness or my Presentation Day speech
would be a lot shorter! Simon may appreciate
some assistance as the playing time record is a
new requirement this year.
Match Reporter: Geraint wants a rest so we need
someone to record results, scorers etc and write a
brief match report for the website and potential
inclusion in the press. I’d like to thank Geraint for
his support and imaginative reports he has posted
over the years.
“Snaps”: Natalie will kindly continue to produce
high quality photographs of the team in action
(such as the great shot below), all of which are
posted on the website for your enjoyment.
Membership
All junior members must now have as a
minimum one parent or guardian as a member
of the Club. Junior player fees for the 2014/15
season have been set at £90, which covers one
child plus one parent or guardian (Associate
Membership).
Fees can now also be paid by direct-debit over
12 months, September – August.
Further information available on the Pitchero
website or from our Team Manager.
Pitchero Website
A reminder to parents and players that we make
extensive use of our age group section of the
Pitchero website during the season, so please
register to keep informed.
Funds Update
We have just over £1,000 in our age group pot, so
thank you for all your contributions. We spent
money last year on coaching aids and the end of
season presentation day.
We are now looking at what kit we can provide for
the squad. We will need to replace the training
bibs this season as they are all looking worse for
wear. We will investigate reversible training shirts,
which may be a better alternative to bibs.

We will continue with £1 contributions per training
session attended, payable to Simon as per last
season.
Be assured all monies collected are for the benefit
of the boys and will be spent on the group.
