Overview
Introduction
HP StorageWorks NAS 2000s provides an affordable, scalable network-attached storage (NAS) solution in dedicated storage configurations for customers
who require multi-protocol file-sharing flexibility. With Windows® Storage Server 2003 (WW 2003) operating system pre-installed and optimized for file
serving, the NAS 2000s solutions attach directly to Ethernet networks, low maintenance, and high uptime.
The NAS 2000s solutions supports CIFS/SMB, NFS, NCP (Novell), AppleTalk, FTP and HTTP file sharring protocols and they allow IT managers to increase
networked storage capacity quickly and easily without bringing down servers or disrupting client access to network data. The NAS 2000s scales easily to tens
of TB. It uses hot swap fans, memory, and power supplies for increased availability. Network administration, user access, and storage configuration are all
easily managed through the NAS GUI.
HP StorageWorks NAS 2000s models include a base, internal or external configuration:
What's New
The HP StorageWorks NAS 2000s now allows customers to host Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 data stores on NAS. The
new feature allows the hosting of the databases and logs of up to two (2) Exchange Servers (either Standard or Enterprise
edition) and up to 1500 Exchange mailboxes on a single NAS 2000s.
A new 2000s Base Model is available without any data storage drives integrated by the factory (drive slots 2 through 5 are
empty). This allows a customer to choose a lower capacity starting point than with the 2000s Internal or External Storage
Models, both which include 587 GB of data storage pre-installed by the factory.
All the 2000s models now support the attachment of the MSA 20 (SATA-based) external storage enclosure for bulk storage
applications such as disk-to-disk backup and data archiving.
What Is NAS?
NAS is an acronym for Network Attached Storage. NAS solutions are specialized file-serving devices that provide support for
heterogeneous files in a high-capacity package. NAS solutions also provide specific features to simplify the tasks and reduce
the resources associated with data storage and management. The objective of NAS technology is to simplify manageability
and improve data access to clients and applications. A NAS solution will generally provide network accessible storage to a
mix of clients and servers running different operating systems.

Step 8 -add host base data replication
HP OpenView Storage Mirroring (SM) is an ideal entry host-based software product for IP networks. SM does not require high bandwidth Fibre Channel
networks, high capacity replication and zero down time service levels. Storage Mirroring provides near real-time full application or file recovery up to the last
byte replication. SM is an excellent choice for low bandwidth; low storage volume changes and meets business recovery goals within tens of minutes or
hours. The immediate return on investment is realized in the reduced management cost associated with branch or small offices networks.
Product Highlights:
High availability with Microsoft Windows 2000/NT/2003servers
Application aware and supported with Exchange, SQL and Oracle
Host-based remote storage copy with TCP/IP networks
Data distribution one-to-many or 'fan-out' to multiple destinations
Data migration utility for transferring large data projects
Centralize backup, data protection and recovery operations
Built in scheduler for off hours replication
Built in network bandwidth utilization management
Disaster recovery between source and destination failover sites
Powered by NSI Software's Double-Take patented 'Sequential Transfer Asynchronous Replication' technology
Sequential transfer maintains write sequential across multiple files for data integrity
Asynchronous replication allows hosts to continue processing for maximum performance
