6. Troubleshooting
In the unlikely event that you have problems using your CompactGPRS, the following may solve
or help to identify the problem; if not, for more technical support see the C-ONE Technology
Corp. Web site, www.pretec.com. If you purchased this card directly from C-ONE
Technology Corp., call 886-3-572-3438 for additional help. For PhoneTools software support
see the BVRP Web site www.bvrp.com.
General Checks
If CompactGPRS doesn’t appear to be working correctly:
Check

if the SIM card is installed and an antenna is connected (and a headset for voice calls).
If you are using CompactGPRS with a laptop, an icon for the CompactGPRS should be in the
WindowsR Taskbar.
If not, follow the installation instructions or if this does not help run the setup.exe program
which is usually found in C:\program files\?
Checks within NT
It is possible that CompactGPRS has been setup to use the wrong Communications port. Use the
PC Card control panel to check what COM port the CompactGPRS has been assigned to, then
use the Modem in control panel to make sure that the C-ONE Technology Corp. CompactGPRS
is using the same COM port. Some computers using Windows NTR or 2000 may not have PC
Card Tools installed. If this applies to you, contact your computer manufacturer for the
appropriate PC Card driver and install it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
PhoneTools software needs a CDROM
During installation of PhoneTools software you may be asked to insert your WindowsR
Operating System disk or CD-ROM. This is to allow all the features of PhoneTools software to
work correctly.
I can’t make data or fax calls
Some GSM networks require your mobile phone account to be enabled for data and/ or fax.
you do not know whether this applies to you, please check with your GSM provider.
If
I can’t receive data or faxes
Check your application is running. To receive faxes you will need special software, for
example, PhoneTools software (supplied) and WinFax software.
Most GSM networks supply different phone numbers for voice, fax and data. Contact your GSM
provider for the numbers and ensure that the fax and data calls are being made to these, not to the
voice call number.
It doesn’t work when I travel.
To use a GSM network outside your own country your account needs to be enabled for
International Roaming. If this has not been done, contact your GSM provider.
CompactGPRS does not work in the USA as their GSM networks operate at a different
frequency. The CompactGPRS application may have been used to select a specific GSM
network. Check the network selection from the application and select Automatic.

If it still doesn't work, please try to perform the detecting steps:
<Step1>tap on "Tools" and select "Close" as shown
<Step2>Open pocket PhoneTools again
My computer or headset buzzes
This can happen with all GSM phones, as the signals they emit sometimes affect computer and
audio equipment; CompactGPRS is no different.
To help minimize any buzzing:
Try adjusting the angle of the antenna.
If the buzzing still doesn‘t go away a remote antenna, Type GX001, may improve matters.
Contact your retailer for more details of this or other options that might be available. If you
purchased this card directly from C-ONE Technology Corp., telephone 886-3-572-3438 for
