Quick Start for IP870
1 Before You Start
Subscribe an Internet access line from your local ISP. It could be ADSL, Cable Modem or Leased Line. You will be given the
following information: (1) Available IP address __________ (2) Gateway IP address __________ (3) Subnet mask __________.
Some DSL ISPs provide PPPoE connections with end users. If you use dial-up DSL and obtain a dynamic IP address
automatically from your DSL ISP, you will be given (1) User Name __________ (2) Password __________ .

4 Input Basic Internet Access Information
4.1 If you can obtain a static IP address from your ISP, setup your Internet access as below.
1. Press and hold
button for 2 seconds and the LCD screen will show IP TYPE. Pick up the handset and press
to
edit this option.
2. When the LCD screen displays STATIC, press
to save.
3. Press
and the LCD screen will show STATIC IP. Press
to edit this option. Use the keypad to input the IP address.
Press
to save.
4. Press
and the LCD screen will show GATEWAY IP. Press
to edit this option. Input the gateway IP address with your
keypad. Please check your ISP or network administrator for this information. Press
to save.
5. Press
and the LCD screen will show SUBNET MASK. Press
to edit this option. Input your subnet mask with your keypad.
Please check with your ISP or network manager for this information. Press
to save and exit.
4.2 If you are a PPPoE client and obtain a dynamic IP address from your DSL ISP, setup your Internet access as below.
1. Press and hold
button for 2 seconds and the LCD screen will show IP TYPE. Pick up the handset and press
to
edit this option.
2. Press
till the LCD screen displays PPPoE. Press
to save.
3. Press
and the LCD screen will show PPPoE ID. Press
to edit this option. Refer to the above character conversion chart
and use the keypad to input your User Name. Press
to save.
4. Press
and the LCD screen will show PPPoE PASSWORD. Press
to edit this option. Input your password with your
keypad. Press
to save and exit.
4.3 If your network has a DHCP server assigning an IP address automatically when you log in, setup your Internet access as below.
1. Press and hold
button for 2 seconds and the LCD screen will show IP TYPE. Pick up the telephone handset and press
to edit this option.
2. Press
till the LCD screen displays DHCP. Press
to save and exit.
5 Data Required for IP870-to-Phone
If you use the 6-digit device ID number as your account of credit, you don't need to input anything in this item.
1. Press and hold
button for 2 seconds and the LCD screen will show IP TYPE. Pick up the telephone handset and press
several times until the screen shows ITSP SETUP.
2. Press
and the LCD screen will show ITSP ACCOUNT. Press
again to edit this option.
3. Use the keypad to input your 10-digit ITSP account number. Press
to save and exit.
Note: You must have a valid ITSP account in order to make a Device-to-Phone call. If there's no balance remained in your
account, please contact our local dealers or visit our web site at www.dsgtechnology.com for details
4. Repeat the above procedures to input LONG DIST CODE, INT'L CODE and COUNTRY CODE. For example, in the U.S. the
Long Distance Code is 1; the International Access Code is 011; the Country Code is 1.
6 Edit Your IP Phone Book
There are 10 available entries in IP Phone Book numbered from 00 to 09. You can program the frequently used IP addresses.
1. Press and hold
button for 2 seconds and the LCD screen will show IP TYPE. Pick up the handset and press
several times until the screen shows IP PHONE BOOK. Press
to edit the Phone Book.
2. You can use
and
to scroll the entries. Press
to edit a specific entry.
3. Follow the above character conversion chart to input the name of the entry. Press
to continue editing the IP address.
4. Use the keypad to input the IP address of this entry. Press
button to save.
5. Repeat step 2 to 4 to input more IP Phone Book entries.
6. You can scroll to EXIT TO MAIN and press
to exit to main menu.
Note: 1. If your network is under NAT environment, you will be able to use IP870 with pseudo or internal IP addresses after performing the port
mappings. Please refer to Operation Manual for more details.
2. If you see the @ sign flashing on the screen, it means your IP870 is not connected to Internet and can only work in a closed TCP/IP
network.
Congratulation! You've successfully completed your settings. You may select a desired
mode to speak to your friend over Internet/Intranet with the following instructions.
a Device-to-Device
1. Confirm that the receiving party is also equipped with an IP870 or other DSG CPE products like InterPhone or InterStar, which
has completed proper settings as well.
2. Pick up the handset and you will hear a ready tone. You may call the receiving party by the following methods:
(a) Dial the Device ID of the remote IP870. For example: If the six-digit Device ID of the receiving IP870 is 555888, then you
should dial
.
(b) Dial the IP address directly. For example: If the IP address of the receiving IP870 is 200.111.66.8, then you should dial
.
(c) Dial the entry number in your IP Phone Book. For example: If you program the Entry:00 of IP Phone Book as 200.111.66.8,
you will be connected to the IP870 with IP address 200.111.66.8 by dialing
, and followed by a
key to confirm.
3. Hold the handset to wait for connection. You can see the status shown on the screen of your IP870.

1. Pick up the handset and you will hear a ready tone.
2. You may dial any long-distance or international telephone numbers as you normally would from your telephone.
For example:
To make an international call from U.S. to Japan:
[International code] + [Japan country code ]+ [Japan area code] + [Japan telephone number]

3. Hold the handset to wait for connection. You can see the status shown on the screen of your IP870.

Configure Speed Dialing Hot Keys: In addition to the above mentioned IP PHONE BOOK, you can also program up to 12 entries of speed
dialing hot keys when placing calls. To edit the speed dialing hot keys, 1) press Program, 2) press Memory, 3) assign an entry number from 1
to 12, 4) input the phone number to be programmed for this entry, 5) press Program again to save. Repeat the above procedures to edit more
entries of speed dial. To place calls using speed dialing hot keys, lift the handset, press the Memory button and then press the dedicate entry
number of speed dial.
Note: If you find any serious delay or cut off in the middle of words while using IP870, it is an indication of
congested data transmission between ISPs. You can hang up and try the call again later. If you have any
