SonicWALL Aventail Host Access Modules
Terminal Emulation over SSL VPN
Remote users demand access to mission-critical resources located on all types of platforms, including
host-based and mainframe applications. IT needs a way to support these users with an easy, secure
and centrally-managed solution that fully leverages existing infrastructure.
SonicWALL® Aventail® Host Access Modules™ takes the enterprise-class terminal emulation technology
of AttachmateWRQ™ Reflection® for the Web—the market-leading solution for thin client host access,
connects browser users to applications running on IBM,® UNIX® and OpenVMS systems—and integrates
it directly into an enterprise-class SSL VPN solution.
SonicWALL Aventail E-Class SSL VPN enables users to directly access host-based applications via a
simple applet download. With SonicWALL Aventail Host Access Modules, administrators can easily
extend the secure reach of SonicWALL Aventail E-Class SSL VPN to a wide range of host-based
application platforms, including IBM mainframe (zSeries) via TN3270; IBM AS/400® (iSeries) via TN5250;
and UNIX, OpenVMS, and Linux® via Telnet or SSH.
The Host Access Module seamlessly integrates AttachmateWRQ Reflection for the Web server
functionality into the SonicWALL Aventail E-Class SSL VPN appliance. Real-world applications include
configuring a router from a remote device, accessing a mainframe accounting system from anywhere,
or reaching crucial host based applications during a disaster.
Features and Benefits
Secure terminal emulation from anywhere, using
SonicWALL Aventail Host Access Modules, enable a user
to securely access a mainframe-based accounting
system from anywhere. An IT administrator can
configure routers from a remote kiosk. In a disaster,
an entire company can securely access host-based
resources at a cold or hot standby facility for rapid
disaster recovery. Host Access Modules work without
administrator rights and will function with Java.®
Unifi ed management of all remote access, allows
administrators to define a single access policy for all
host-based, Web-based, or client/server resources using
the SonicWALL Aventail Management Console, for the
highest level of security available. SonicWALL Aventail
E-Class SSL VPN administrators need no additional
training to configure and deploy Host Access Modules
to their SonicWALL Aventail WorkPlace portal.
One solution for a common user experience with
Host Access Modules, SonicWALL Aventail E-Class SSL
VPNs deliver one easy-to-manage solution and a
common portal experience for users accessing virtually
any resources—including host-based, Web-based and
client/server applications—from virtually any remote
endpoint—including Windows,® Macintosh® and Linux
platform desktops, laptops or kiosks. Access is based
upon endpoint interrogation and centrally-managed
access policy before the connection is authorized.
When a user selects a host-based application icon
on the portal, an AttachmateWRQ Reflection for the
Web terminal emulation applet automatically loads
in their browser.
