EX SERIES - PRE-FINISHED PANELS
Nichiha Design Cement Panel EX series are cement bonded fibrous wood particle products (EN 12467:2004) with many choices of
textures and colours. Panels are pre-finished using a durable multi-layer paint process and a stain resistant coating, NichiGuardTM.
They are tongue and groove profiled along the long edges, and fit neatly together to form a waterproof joints. The external cladding systems feature a ventilated and drained cavity which is a proven and highly effective method of weatherproofing buildings.
The panels can be used internally as well as externally.

CONSIDERATIONS
This guide represents good practice, though it is not intended as an exhaustive statement of all relevant information. It remains
the responsibility of the building designer to verify that EX series cladding system is suitable for the particular requirements of any
given project.
This guide should be read in conjunction with the Building Code of each country.
We want to make sure that you have all the information you need in order to design buildings. If you have any questions, please
call us (Tel.: +45 9614 5000).
FRAMING
Before installing EX Panel, carefully inspect exterior wall substrate, and confirm the surface of the substrate is flat. And timber or
metal furring strips must be set up correctly. Timber furring strips shall be seasoned. Unseasoned timber is not recommended.
The design and construction of the steel frames should be considered in conjunction with the advice from the manufacturer. In
highly corrosive environments, appropriate measures should be taken to protect the frame from the corrosion.
LIMITATIONS
EX series should be used as cladding products not for high-rise building but for low-rise buildings. Depending on the chosen
system, some joints may be expressed and filled with colour matched sealant. Any projects of 13 meters or higher as well as ones
located in high wind areas require a technical review by HBC’s technical department. EX series shall be installed in accordance
with this installation guide and/or information provided by HBC’s technical department.

STORAGE
All EX Panel must be stacked flat, clear of the ground, and supported at 300 mm
maximum centers on a level platform.
Materials must be kept dry, preferably by being stored inside the building. Panels
exposed to moisture prior to installation may be subject to shrinkage, and voiding
of warranty. Protect from contaminants such as silicone spray. Where it is necessary to store panels outside, they must be protected from the weather.
Do not stack more than two pallets.
Do not put the siding directly on the ground.
Store the siding away from moisture content.
HANDLING
EX Panel is pre-finished, and must be treated with care. During handling, avoid
damage to edges, ends and surfaces.
EX panel must be carried as per the drawing. The shorter edges should be vertical while carried.
Do not touch EX panel with dirty hands.
Be aware of your steps and surroundings while handling.
TRANSPORT
Be careful to prevent edges and surface of EX panel from being damaged when
unloading.
lf the smaller end is not set up in case of
carrying, flaw and crack of siding may occur.
Do not stack any pallets while transporting.
Attach pad plates at the corners of panels and tightly bind with ropes or wires to prevent any damage.
When hanging up, accordingly protect EX panel with pad plates.
SAFETY
When cutting, drilling or grinding EX Panel using power tools, always ensure the work area is well ventilated. An approved dust
mask and safety glasses must be worn.
All saws, drill/drivers, cutting blades, drill bits and hand tools must be maintained in good and clean condition to ensure appropriate cutting and drilling. The use of tools in conjunction with appropriate dust reduction methods is recommended.

ALUMINIUM TRIM AND FLASHING
The Aluminium trim and flashing provide an attractive finish, without sealing and visible screw heads, around windows, doorways
and openings etc.
Aluminium top trim, with water drainage holes
Mount the top flashing to the furring strips and the rough opening. Between the flashing edge and the aluminium trim, there must
be a distance at min. 6-8 mm to allowed airflow. Cut the aluminium trim in length according to the opening, and with 45° ends. Attach the trim with screws at 600 mm max. Cut the panels and slide them into the aluminium trim. Make sure that the internal water
drain is clean and without dust and dirt, before mounting the panels.
The flashing should be bent at 90 degrees, down wards, and cover the side flashing approx.. 15 mm, to ensure tightness.
Aluminium side trim
Mount the side flashing to the furring strips and the rough opening. Make sure that the flashing slides in to the trim slot, with a min.
of 5 mm. Cut the aluminium trim in length according to the opening, 45° in the top and the bottom angle according to the sill

16 x 455 x 3030 MM HORIZONTAL INSTALLATION
EX SERIES - SEPTEMBER 2015
CUTTING IN EX FACADE PANELES
Seals with openings are executed as with other ventilated facades, but please note the following:
»» Cutting of panels requires at least 100 mm of material remaining and at least half of the panel height.
»» When attaching using screws, spacers of at least 5 mm must be used. Screw heads must be closed with touch-up paint.
»» It is important to ensure that ventilation is maintained and is functional around openings, otherwise condensation may arise,
and this may cause moisture damage.
»» It is important that precipitation be diverted, to stop water collecting.
FINISH CLIP USAGE
Mounting the EX series panels, at openings etc., with no visible screw heads, requires added preparation with the use of a biscuit
joiner:
1. To route grooves into the top edge of a panel, use a biscuit/plate joiner, such as Makita’s PJ7000. A carbide blade is
recommended.
2. Set the biscuit joiner’s angle guide at zero degrees and height to ¹⁄₄”.
3. Set the depth of groove for a size 20 biscuit to ensure the grooves are wide and deep enough for JE310 clips to seat
properly, ¹⁄₄” from the back/unfinished face of the panel.
4. Route the cut edge with the unfinished panel surface facing up, lining the grooves up with stud locations
(16” o.c. maximum).
5. The clip should fit snug but not too tightly when placed on the panel. Cut, routed panel edges must be sealed with
100% acrylic latex primer or paint.

1
Place masking tape on each side of the joint, and at the end of
the edge.
2
2. Apply Primer to all square edges of panels. Correct and full
application of Primer to all square edges of panels is critical to
successful sealant performance. Primer must be allowed to dry
fully before installing Sealant.

3. Sealant must be installed not less than 30 minutes after and not
more than 6 hours after Primer application.
4. Before Sealant become completely dried, remove the masking
tape carefully.
Refer to the sealant manufacturer’s instructions or requirements.

PANEL LAYOUT
To ensure a successful installation, it is important to first plan how the panels will be laid out, where compression and control joints
will be located, and line of sight regarding inside corners decided.
Points
The panel layout should be planned not only for the appearance but also for minimizing cut loss.
Lay out so that the positions of the right/left joints are symmetrical about the target wall vertical cetreline.
Layout For Horizontal Installation
The layout for horizontal installation may be drawn to align with the target wall vertical centreline either the panel centre as shown
in (A) or the vertical joint as shown in (B), chosen based on the wall span and window positions.
Panel-centered
Joint-centered
Pattern Match
Be careful to cut panels when the panel has vertical straight grooves on its pattern. Cut the panels so that the vertical grooves on
both top panels and bottom panels align.
