The Crest Audio 9001 is a high-power amplifier designed to

The 9001 incorporates Crest Audio’s Power Density™ engineering design philosophy, providing users with more substantial
power and increased headroom for a given size than comparable
amplifiers.
A three rack-space amplifier, the 9001 uses forced-air to cool
channel heat sinks mounted in a back-to-back tunnel configuration. Stereo, parallel, and bridged mono operating modes can be
chosen with a rear-panel Mode Select switch. Actively balanced
female XLR input connections and single-screw solderless output
connectors are provided for each channel. The 9001 is fully compatible with the other Crest Audio Professional Series amplifiers,
Octal Socket Accessories and the NexSys® computer-controlled
audio system.
- IGM (Instantaneous Gain Modulation) monitors connected
loads to detect conditions that may overstress output
devices, allowing safe operation into nominal 2Ω impedances.
Design and Construction
The 9001 is built exclusively in Crest Audio’s own USA manufacturing facility, with internal components selected for premium
quality and proven durability. Each modular subassembly is pretested, and the assembled 9001 receives a rigorous “hot room”
burn-in before thorough final checkout on precision test equipment.
The no-compromise approach in the 9001’s electrical design and
mechanical construction provides the ultimate in reliability and
performance. Only high-grade components are used for the modular sub-assemblies in this ultra-strong, 12 gauge steel singlepiece chassis.

Architect’s & Engineer’s Specifications
The power amplifier shall consist of 2 channels and deliver
a minimum of 1100 watts at 8 ohms, 2050 watts at 4 ohms
and 3000 watts at 2 ohms; per channel, both channels driven, 20Hz-20kHz, <0.1% THD+N. In bridged (mono)
mode, it shall deliver a minimum of 4100 watts at 8 ohms,
and 6000 watts at 4 ohms, 20 Hz-20kHz, <0.1% THD+N.
The amplifier shall be rear-to-front tunnel-cooled, with a
variable-speed (140 CFM max) DC fan.
The amplifier shall have circuitry to protect itself and the
speaker load from output short circuits, DC voltage on outputs, and thermal overload. It shall have RMS clip limiting
and impedance sensing circuitry. Output relays shall protect the speakers from any type of amplifier failure.
The amplifier shall have a voltage gain of X40 with an
input sensitivity of 2.26V for rated power at 4 ohms. The
hum and noise level shall be greater than 100 dB below
rated output, “A” weighted. The amplifier shall have a
class H output stage with a modulated power supply. The
frequency response shall be greater than 20Hz-20kHz, +0,
-.3dB (1W/8Ω).
The amplifier shall operate at either 100, 120, 220, or 240
volts, 50-60 Hz AC (configured at factory). Maximum current draw at 120V shall be no greater than 65A, both channels driven continuously into 4 ohm resistance.
The amplifier front panel shall include Active, Temp/DC,
Signal Present and Clip/Limit LED indicators for each
channel, a combination power switch/magnetic circuit
breaker and recessed and detented gain pots.
Rear panel input connectors shall be XLR type, one female
per channel. Output connectors shall be single screw solderless copper lug type, two per channel. A signal/ground
lift jumper shall be provided.
A rear-panel AC mains cord having an appropriate AC
plug for the intended operating voltage shall be provided
(market dependent).
The packaging of the amplifier shall allow for standard
rack mounting without requiring space between similar
units. Dimensions shall be 19" (483mm) wide, 5.5"
(133mm) high and 15" (381mm) deep. It shall weigh 110
lbs. (49.94kg) net. The amplifier shall be designated the
Crest Audio Model 9001.

Crest Audio developed this model in conjunction with the
biggest names in touring sound. These amplifiers meet the specific demand for medium-power amplifiers with full-range capabilities, but optimized for mid- and high-frequency applications.
The output section operates purely in Class AB, with no dynamic
switching of supply rail voltages. The result is the cleanest, most
transparent mid-and high-frequency audio power imaginable
from amplifiers that never compromise quality.
A forced-air configuration is used to cool channel heat sinks
mounted in a back-to-back tunnel arrangement. An actively balanced female XLR input connection, Octal Socket, and 5-way
output binding posts are provided for each channel.

The power amplifier shall have two channels. Each channel shall deliver a minimum of 220 watts at 8 ohms, 330
watts at 4 ohms and 400 watts at 2 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz,
<0.1% THD+N. In bridged mode, it shall deliver 660 watts
at 8 ohms and 800 watts into 4 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz,
<0.1% THD+N.
The amplifier shall be rear-to-front tunnel-cooled, with a
variable-speed DC fan.
It shall have circuitry to protect itself and the speaker load
from output short circuits, DC voltage on outputs, and
thermal overload. It shall have RMS clip limiting and
impedance sensing circuitry. Output relays shall protect
the speakers from any type of amplifier failure.

Preliminary Product Description
The Crest Audio CKX800 Power Processing amplifier is designed
specifically for the unique requirements of high quality, transformer-isolated 100V, 70.7V, or 50V operation (factory configured) distributed
sound systems in commercial, industrial and institutional installations.
Design goals met by the CKX800 include exceptional sonic accuracy,
high efficiency, minimum power consumption, comprehensive loudspeaker protection, and the ability to handle extended duty cycles.
In addition, the CKX800 incorporates Crest Audio’s proprietary modular approach to input/output and external control configuration. We call
this concept Power Processing. Through the provision of three plug-in
module bays, these amplifiers offer exceptional flexibility with integral
signal processing, load monitoring, and either local or system-wide computer control via Crest Audio’s NexSys® network.
The CKX800 amplifier is manufactured exclusively in Crest Audio’s
own USA plant, using only the highest quality components. Key subassemblies are individually pre-tested, and all units are rigorously
“burned-in” before final checkout on precision test equipment.
CKX800 Features
• Transformer-isolated outputs.

• Sequential Turn-On/Off (STO). Standard system uses any +8 to
+18VDC source and contact closure.
• PowerSave. Reduces power consumption at idle by turning off the

bays into which a diverse range of space-saving and cost effective

high-tech styling and comprehensive metering make the V1100

The V1100’s remarkable price/performance ratio is the result of
innovative engineering and highly efficient manufacturing in
Crest’s modern USA facility–along with nearly two decades of
leadership in professional amplifier design. However, no compromises in component selection or quality control were permitted as a shortcut to cost reductions. In every respect, the V1100
embodies the Crest Audio tradition of roadworthy ruggedness
and reliability. For example, the V1100 includes the same
TourClass® protection features as found in Crest’s CA, CKS,
CKV and CKX Series amplifiers. That means the V1100 will
endure virtually any type of mishap or system stress–from uncontrolled “upstream” oscillation to extreme ambient heat or accidental shorting–without damage to internal circuitry or connected

The power amplifier shall have two channels. Each channel shall deliver a
minimum of 300 watts at 8 ohms, 550 watts at 4 ohms and 700 watts at 2
ohms, 1kHz, 1% THD+N. In bridged mono mode, it shall deliver 1100
watts at 8 ohms and 1400 watts into 4 ohms, 1kHz, 1% THD+N.
The amplifier shall have circuitry to protect itself and the speaker load
from output short circuits, DC voltage on outputs, and thermal overload.
The amplifier shall include circuitry to gradually increase gain to attenuator setting levels when the amplifier is turned on, and circuitry for impedance sensing and active clip limiting.
The amplifier shall be front-to-side cooled, with a two-speed AC fan.
The amplifier shall have a voltage gain of X46 with an input sensitivity of
1.0V for rated power at 8 ohms. THD+N shall be less than 1.0% at 4Ω,
1kHz. The hum and noise level shall be 105 dB below rated output, “A”
weighted. SMPTE IMD shall be less than 0.05%, rated power at 8Ω, 60Hz
and 7kHz. The amplifier shall have a class AB output stage. The frequency
response shall be greater than 10Hz-20kHz, +0/-0.3dB, 1W/8Ω.
The amplifier shall operate at 100V-240V, 50-60 Hz AC (configured at
factory). Maximum current draw shall not exceed 18 amperes at 120VAC,
(circuit breaker limited), with both channels driven continuously into a 4
ohm resistor.
Front panel mounted attenuators shall be recessed and detented. Front
panel indicators shall include an “Active” LED, a “Protect” LED and a
20-segment LED signal level meter for each channel, which includes an
ACL LED. The amplifier shall have a combination power switch/magnetic
circuit breaker fitted on the front panel.
A rear panel Bridge/Stereo mode select switch shall be provided. Rear
panel input connectors shall be an actively balanced TRS (tip +), and barrier strip for each channel. Output connectors shall be Speakon or 5-way
binding posts (market dependent). Rear mounting ears shall be provided.
A rear-panel IEC AC mains socket or single AC mains cord having an
appropriate AC plug for the intended operating voltage shall be provided
(market dependent).
The packaging of the amplifier shall allow for standard rack mounting
without requiring space between similar units. Optional rack mount handles shall be available. Dimensions shall be 5.25" (133mm) high x 19"
(483mm) wide x 13.33" (339mm) deep. The amplifier shall have a net
weight of 44 lbs. (20.0 kg). The amplifier shall be designated the Crest
Audio model V1100.

PRELIMINARY SPECIFICATIONS
Architect’s & Engineer’s Specifications
The power amplifier shall consist of 2 channels and deliver a
minimum of 400 watts per channel into a 100 volt “constant
voltage” line without the need for external step-up transformers, both channels driven, 40Hz–16kHz, 0.1% THD+N.
A variable speed fan, with the ability to completely turn off
under appropriate ambient temperature conditions, shall provide air flow through the chassis from front to both sides.
The amplifier shall have circuitry to protect itself and the
speaker load from output short circuits, DC voltage on outputs, and thermal overload. The amplifier shall include circuitry to gradually increase gain to attenuator setting levels
when amplifier is turned on, and circuitry for impedance
sensing and active clip limiting.
The amplifier shall include an energy saving feature which
shall automatically remove the output stage bias current when
the amplifier is in an idle condition.
The amplifier shall have a voltage gain of X40, or a voltage
gain of X20, or an input sensitivity of 0.775V, for rated
power, internally jumper-selectable. The hum and noise level
shall be greater than 105dB below rated output, A-weighted.
The amplifier shall have a class AB output stage (with a modulated power supply). The frequency response shall be
greater than 40Hz–16kHz, (-1dB) at rated power. The amplifier shall operate at either 100, 120, 220, 230, or 240 volts,
50–60Hz AC (configured at factory). Maximum current draw
at 240V shall be no greater than 7.5A, both channels driven
continuously into a 100V line.
Front panel LED indicators shall include Active, Protect,
Signal Present, and ACL (Clip Limiting) LEDs for each channel. The power switch shall have three positions; one to permit power up from a remote location, one to permit local
power up, and an ‘off’ position. The fan filter shall be front
panel mounted, with no tools required for removal.
The rear panel shall be configured with three openings or
bays which will accept plug-in modules used to accomplish
input signal processing, network control, remote sequential
turn-on/off and other related functions. The output module
shall be fitted with the following connectors: 5mm, 4-pin
Phoenix for sequential turn-on/off wiring, and a touch-proof
output barrier strip with 0.438" (11mm) screw spacing, and
0.320" (8mm) lug space. The input module shall be fitted with
an input barrier strip connector with 0.320" (8mm) screw
spacing, and 0.270" (7mm) lug space, and two individual
channel attenuators with removable knobs.
A user re-settable AC mains circuit breaker and a single
molded AC cord (suitable for a normal household AC outlet)
shall be mounted on the rear chassis.
The packaging of the amplifier shall allow for standard rack
mounting without requiring space between similar units.
Dimensions shall be 19" (435mm) wide, 5.25" (133mm) high
and 17.13" (435mm) deep. It shall weigh 57lbs. (25.91kg) net.
The amplifier shall be designated the Crest Audio model
CKX800.
