The GasPoint II can monitor a large variety of toxic and hundreds of different flammable gases. The GasPoint II provides continuous monitoring of the atmosphere for hazardous gases in the workplace and is virtually maintenance-free. Its revolutionary design uses advanced microcontrollers and allows for enhanced diagnostics and fault analysis. Advanced design features make installation and operation simpler than ever. The GasPoint II transmitter provides a 4-20 mA an optional output signal which can be connected to any control system (DCS, PLC, etc.). Designed with non-volatile memory, the GasPoint II has total memory retention. A non-intrusive calibration can be easily performed by one person using a magnetic key. Normally, only a periodic calibration check is needed to assure dependable performance. The liquid crystal display (LCD) is an intuitive user interface, indicating the gas type monitored and concentration level (% LEL, % vol., or ppm). 511402 2/07 GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 13 Introduction Description The flexibility of the GasPoint II modular design affords efficient installation. Wiring of the transmitter itself is straightforward. Field interchangeable plug-in sensor assemblies enable you to change the gas sensor at any time. The GasPoint II transmitter will recognize the sensor installed and reset itself to that sensor type. The poison-resistant sensors have the fastest response time available. GasPoint II is capable of responding to a momentary puff of gas that would otherwise remain undetected. The sensors have a proven history of reliable, long-term performance and are relatively unaffected by temperature or humidity variations. Gas enters the GasPoint II sensor by convection and diffusion through a sintered stainless steel or hastelloy sintered flame arrestor screen opening. 14 GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 511402 2/07 Introduction GasPoint II Elements Unpacking After opening the package, remove the equipment and components. Please ensure that all the items described on the order form or packing slip are actually in the box and are undamaged. Some materials such as, but not limited to, tetraethyl lead, silicones, some sulfur, phosphorus, and chlorinated compounds may have a poisoning effect resulting in a loss of sensibility. If they are not applied, Honeywell will not recognize any liability in case of improper operation. • • • • • Make sure to locate all units easily accessible for proper service. Avoid any location where units could be subject to vibrations. Avoid any location close to any electromagnetic interference. Avoid any location where there are large temperature swings. Verify local requirements and existing regulations which may affect the choice of location. 511402 2/07 GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 17 Installation Wall Mounting the Enclosure Wall Mounting the Enclosure Modular design simplifies the installation of the GasPoint II. The transmitter’s back enclosure contains the relays and power board and is equipped with a threaded 3/4 inch NPT conduit fitting outlet and predrilled mounting flanges. Power and signal lines connect to the plug-in terminal block on the power board. The GasPoint II can be disassembled, simplifying the installation. • Qualified personnel should perform the installation according to applicable electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards. Ensure correct cabling and sealing fitting practices are implemented. Install the GasPoint II, using the predrilled mounting flanges: I.D. 0.25 on 5.5 inch centers. It is preferable to attach the transmitter to a wall or bracket, using bolts through the two mounting holes. These mountings, however, may be omitted if the electrical conduit is sufficiently rigid to support the weight of the transmitter. • • • 15.62 cm 6.15” 11.76 cm 4.63” .635 cm/ .25” diameter mounting holes 19.05 cm 7.5” 11.30 cm 4.45” 13.97 cm 5.50” 7.95 cm 3.13” Note: The sensor should never be installed pointed upwards. 18 GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 511402 2/07 Installation Sensor Location Sensor Location Several factors should be considered when selecting a location to install the sensor. The following general suggestions should be considered to assure the detection of the target gas. Select the most suitable location for each sensor. Air Currents If there are fans, wind, or other sources of air movement, gases may tend to rise or collect in certain areas of a facility. The local air currents should be assessed to aid in selecting the sensor location. Outdoor situation considerations such as prevailing winds, should be accounted for. Air convection can often be more important in determining gas concentrated areas than factors of vapor density. Vapor Density When there are no air currents in the area, sensor placement may be affected where the gas (vapor) to be monitored is lighter or heavier than air. For gases lighter than air, we suggest placing the sensor approximately 1 ft. (30 cm) from the ceiling or roof in an indoor installation. For gases heavier than air, we suggest placing the sensor 1 ft. (30 cm) from the floor/ground. Gas Emission Sources As a rule, at least one sensor should be located in close proximity to each point where a leak is likely to occur. This is particularly important when a liquid having a low volatility is monitored. Environmental Factors Designed for rugged outdoor use, consider the following in selecting a location. • • Install sensors where they will be protected from wind, dust, snow, water, vibration, and/or shock. Observe the operating temperature range of the sensor (refer to Specifications). 511402 2/07 GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 19 Installation Sensor Location Interfering Gases For Combustible Sensors The following table contains only a partial list of the combustible interfering gases. (30 cm) from the ceiling, close to the potential leak source. * May differ in certain applications. Hot NO2 from exhaust systems is lighter than ambient air. Note: The installation heights recommended by Honeywell represent general guidelines. Always confirm with local laws and regulations before proceeding, as these take precedence over manufacturer's recommendations. 511402 2/07 GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 21 Installation Cable Lengths Cable Lengths Transmission Range: The distance the 4-20 mA signal can travel is dependent on several factors including the cable gauge. Maximum cable resistance is 650 ohms less the controller resistance. The tables below assume a constant 24-volt power supply (at +20°C/ +68°F) copper wire and a controller resistance of 250 ohms. The signal range from the controller to the GasPoint II takes into account the return loop. (350 m) GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 23 Installation Duct-Mount Installation Duct-Mount Installation This system can be used to sample air flowing through ventilation ducts. The transmitter can be used where the air velocity is between 500 - 4000 ft./min. (2.5 - 20.3 m/sec.) and it is generally installed in the main return ventilation duct before the recirculation fans. Make sure to verify all the requirements and existing regulations which may affect its installation location. We recommend installation on a straight duct at 3 ft. (1 m) away from any curve. To properly install the duct mount, following the steps listed below and refer to Figure 4. 1. Post the drilling guide to the ventilation duct. 2. Drill two openings (one for the sampling tube and the other for the exhaust tube). 3. Insert the sampling tube with lateral air holes in the appropriate connector orienting the air holes to face the airflow. Tighten with the (8-32-5/16”) screw on the connector. 4. Insert the exhaust tube into the appropriate connector orienting the slant away from the airflow. Tighten with the (8-32-5/16”) screw on the connector. Note: Extra tubing is necessary for a ventilation duct longer than 20 inches. 5. It is preferable to drill a hole at the opposite side facing the detection unit to support the far end of the tube. Seal the end of the exhaust tube with the cork supplied. If necessary, seal the openings on the duct around the tubing. 6. Install the remote sensor assembly inside the sampling box (refer to Remote Sensor Configuration). 7. Connect the power and the outputs as shown in the System Wiring section. 8. Before mounting the cover of the sampling box, start the ventilation-feeding fan and check to see if there is any leakage. If necessary, seal the leaks with air plugs. 9. Mount the cover using metallic screws (6/32-1/2”). Note: To convert from CFM to velocity (ft./min.), divide the flow by the area. Example: In a 2 ft. x 4 ft. duct, where the area is 8 sq. ft. and the air velocity is 30,000 CFM: 30,000 CFM / 8 sq. ft. = 3,750 ft./ min. 24 GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell 511402 2/07 Installation Duct-Mount Installation Duct Mount Installation Air duct cork Air Flow sampling box cover 511402 2/07 Sampling box GasPoint II User Manual Honeywell Sampling tube 25 Installation Remote Sensor Configuration Remote Sensor Configuration *UNCTIONåBOXåISåNOTå PROVIDED 4HEåSHIELDåMUSTå BEåGROUNDED #ABLEåGAUGEåå!7' -AXIMUMåLENGTHååFTå åM A- B+ Com.
